Money v Morals, voice of football fans can decide

879

Scottish football is posed for the most momentous stand-off in its history.  The battle lines are clear:

Money v Morals, TV money v Season ticket money, Bank of Scotland v Fans

In 12 days the SPL clubs will vote on resolutions which will enable a new club to parachute straight into the SPL following the liquidation of Rangers without having to apply for entry to the Scottish Football league and rise through the pyramid.  Five clubs can block their entry – for a few days anyway.  Six, a majority if one member is liquidated, would be enough to ensure Rangers Newco SPL entry is blocked.

According to the SPL Fan Survey fans would overwhelmingly like to see any Newco football club enter the Scottish Football League, a position supported by a large number of Rangers fans, but the voices of fans are more easily discarded than that of the Bank of Scotland, who a large number of clubs depend upon to keep their own clubs out of administration.

In short, unless clubs can demonstrate to the Bank of Scotland that they will lose more money from disaffected fans by voting for Newco than they will by voting to retain the custom of Rangers fans, with accompanying television and sponsor money, Newco FC will be voted into the SPL.

Celtic will vote against Newco but fans from Hibs, Hearts, Aberdeen, Dundee United, Inverness, St Johnstone, Motherwell and St Mirren have to do more to make their case directly with their clubs.  Irrespective of fan views, I reckon Dunfermline shareholders would rather relegate their own team than Rangers.  Don’t even ask about Kilmarnock.

The Gang of 10 may speak as one.  If they get rid of Rangers they will be able to out-vote Celtic and have a unique opportunity to change voting rights, allowing them to capture long-term money currently going to Celtic.  This, together with overwhelming fan pressure, might be enough to persuade some, but this issue is more complex.

Despite initial opposition to changing the voting rights, Duff and Phelps may vote with the Gang of 10 on voting rights as part of a deal to allow them to sell a place in the SPL.  Yes – trade votes in order to sell a place in the top league.  Sporting integrity dismantled forever.

Since we first raised the alarm on this vote back in October I have been convinced Newco would be ushered into the SPL but the weight of opinion from fans from other clubs is stark.  Over half of respondents to the Survey say they will not attend SPL games if Newco is voted straight into the league.

Even the Bank of Scotland would have to recognise the business sense in siding with the fans if this view is made firmly enough.

Truth is, no one knows which way this one will go, but this is a once in a century opportunity for fans to make a stand.

  1. Poor Ally. Having seen his spectacular management failure overshadowed and indeed, tainted, by financial disaster and allegations of cheating, he now has to organise Rangers’ summer tour of the Clyde coast without knowing who his players will be.

    I have a special TV.

I was watching the Chelsea Barcelona game last night and the picture went a bit fuzzy. So I tapped the side of the TV and every time I done it Drogba fell over.

Scottish Cup never leaves Hampden these days. Never tainted. I was on the Hampden tour recently. It really is excellent. Not often you can say that about the place but our guide was a Tim and he was very good and the museum is a must for any Scottish football fan. They also have a Jinky Faberge egg. Worth going just to see that. £5 adults and £2 for kids. Excellent value.

would you know if the delay of two days in providing the information given to Charles Lavery monitoring of Rangers Football club via company house is normal or an exception ?

    Are favours being done ?

Like that “spectacular management failure”, the mince stream media will be champing at the bit to use that one. Did he not serve his apprenticeship well in the cup competitions hiding behind the loyal cardigan. Dignity & Class don’t you know.

  8. Neil should , im sure he will, have a dossier including murray(mib) being physically manhandled by dobs players with his then quote defending them

He should highlight gollams record when reffing them against when he refs us ( 12 pens in 21 games v 3 pens for us in 20 games)

He should highlight norbis record ( 6 pens in 7 games for them 0( none) against 3 pens for us but 3 pens against us in 5 games)

But most of all he should highlight butcher brown fplg comments re sfa officials/ mibs and yet nothing done Oh and he might mention that after there shame game the only person punished was him

I think there is a pattern emerging or is it just me lol!

Ah the release of the information only happens upon the document being filed not requested. That would tie in with the creditors meeting for tomorrow

Papers are filed with Companies House and available on their website a short time later. Not sure about specific time scales but this paper was available from 17 April 2012.

You can sign up to “Monitor a Company” as I have done with a number of comps but you don’t get an email. You have to log onto Comp House and select “My Monitor” where you get most up to date info.

I would imagine Charles Lavery just checked today and saw a new form that said:

    “STATEMENT OF ADMINISTRATOR’S PROPOSALS:LIQ. CASE NO.1”

and got carried away when seeing LIQ Case No 1. I downloaded the document and its the same as the one on RFC website since 5 April.

Quote of the day goes to Murray (Not the ‘we wis duped ah tell ye!’ one)

“This situation has to be resolved with maximum urgency as we are now heading beyond the point of no return.’

Heading beyond the point of no return?

Is that not just plain old beyond the point of no return?

I thought close to the point of no return was as near as you’d like to be?

    But heading beyond?

I think the Seamill Hydro will be too expensive for them, especially when wages go back to 100% in June.

It is well worth it. Book in advance. You get into the dressing rooms and stuff. It’s quite an insight. I won’t spoil it for you by telling you any of it but I went with a group of youngsters and they loved it!

  15. I’ve been on the Celtic and Hampden tours, both excellent. Best one I’ve been on though is Emirates. The tour guide told us all the secrets and mind games Wenger introduced when designing the new stadium. Such as putting a table in the middle of the away dressing room just high enough so that the players couldn’t see across to each other. Quite ridiculous how pampered the players are – heated subs seats etc. Incredible stadium.

  16. So let me get this right.

Ng is in. Miller is in. The Blue Knights were in although they stepped back but didn’t walk away and so might come back in. Kennedy didn’t want to be in but was in until he went out but might come back in although he still doesn’t want to be in.

Meanwhile, somewhere in Monaco, a man is laughing.

  17. Cheers LiveiBhoy, I will try it out, I was brought up in the shadows of Hunden and never paid to get in to Scotland games till I was big, suppose I can give them a few quid now.

  18. The Glasgow Herald page 2 , Dec 2nd 1972

“Jock Stein yesterday left a meeting of the football magistrates £100 poorer, writes Ian Archer. He was also severely censured for the third time in his career as Celtic Manager.

Stein was thus punished by the referee committee as a result of making remarks on the Parkhead pitch to Bobby Davidson during a league cup tie against Dundee. It was the third time that Stein had appeared before the committee and the third time that he was reported by Mr Davidson, one of Scotland’s senior referees.”

Agree re. Celtic and Hampden tours, never done the Emirates one. Best one i’ve been on was Old Trafford mainly due to the old guy who was the tour guide. Took us to places which weren’t part of official tour and had lots of good anecdotes about players/managers etc. Bernabeau and Stadium of Light (Benfica one) also very good, Sporting Lisbon & Valencia not bad, Nou camp a disappointment.

Just as well Dick Dastardly and Muttley never won anything. The Slag Brothers and The Gruesome Twosome rarely won as well.

My da went on the Hampden tour seversl years ago, before the Jinky egg was in place I believe.

He ended up in a heated debate with the tour guide who was talking up Lord Aitkenhead and his role in Scottish football. The ols man pointed out that Aitkenhead was a sectarian bigot who voowed that no Celtic team would ever have the honour of being situated in the home dressing room at the national stadium.

He also pointed out that the same man owned the land on which Holy Cross catholic Church is now built in Govanhill. When the church applied to purchase the land, Aitkenhead scornfully dismissed them saying that under no circumstances would he be selling, “to them!”

A kindly Jewish man then bought the land from him and donated the land, free of charge, to the Catholic Church to do as they would with it.

A wee rant and nout much to do with the tour but hey ho I feel better now :-))

  24. I remember during the Share Issue being roped in to being the tour guide of the stadium due to the sheer volume of fans coming in and wanting a tour.

Regarding the small number of celtic fhans who have joined the hun clamour against NL Citing he is an embarrassment, he needs to calm down, he needs to learn, he needs to show class, blah blah blah. You are only a step away from saying “he brings it on himself”

Fitba used to be a passionate game, it was played by men. The reality is that Lenny wagged his finger and shouted at the ref, big deal. I don’t think it would be too difficult for any of us to go online (or even to the wee box in the loft full of celtic gear) and produce pictures of each and every one of our previous managers doing something similar.

This is a very good example of the MSM practice of “if you say something often enough, eventually some folks will believe it”

If there is a single celtic fan out there who doesn’t believe “its personal” do you want to buy ma motor aff me?
