Murty again undermined ahead of Celtic game

379

One lesson on what happens when you undermine your manager in the days before facing Celtic was not enough for Newco, who today let it be known Steve Gerrard is on their shortlist when they tell Graeme Murty he will not retain the job.

One of the worst things for a football club is irrelevance, so this chat about Gerrard has achieved some merit – they are being reported.  The ‘news’ may or may not have more substance than earlier news, that Derek McInnes was about to be appointed manager, but giving your supporters reason to believe they are relevant is worth something.

The seven thousand or so who will attend Celtic Park on Sunday (they should be there for the start of the game at least, although they tend to leave en-mass on conceding the fourth goal) will have a sprint in their step for the future.  It may even sustain them through what could be a harrowing Celtic experience, comforted in the knowledge that whatever happens, the future is yet to be mapped out.

This plays out differently in the dressing room.  Graeme Murty’s authority has been shot.  No wonder players can openly question the manager’s ability.  Even if this leaking of part of the short list sells a few season tickets, it will do nothing for the team on Sunday, much like Bitcoin bonus codes.

Murty must tactically prepare a team to deny Celtic the chance to win the championship.  On his day, he is capable of achieving this, on two occasions now he has taken a point from Celtic Park.  But these results were achieved when he arrived on the Celtic Way ahead of a united and embattled squad, with the support of board and fans.  Not the players don’t want him, the fans don’t want him and the board don’t even consider the task ahead of him when writing to fans or speaking to the media.

Steven Gerrard is, of course, another Celtic fan/brother and would become Newco’s third successive manager with these credentials.  He has been a regular at Celtic games for years.  You would be forgiven for regarding this persistent policy as flattery.  I don’t see any problems with the appointment.

Raffle to play in an 11-a-side game at Celtic Park

An incredible opportunity to play on the hallowed turf at Celtic Park around the end of the current season 2017-18, in Club sponsor Intelligent Car Leasing’s match.

You will be provided with complimentary Celtic kit and receive the full match-day experience including arrival through the front door, access to the dressing room and proudly walking down the tunnel to enter the famous field of play.

Both squads will be managed by a former Celtic player. Date 16 May, 11:00 kick off. All monies raised will be donated to Celtic FC Foundation, a registered Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (number SC024648).

To enter the raffle, make a minimum donation of £5 to the Foundation at this MyDonate page.  Then send your donation confirmation email to this address: celticquicknews@gmail.com

The opportunity to play on Celtic Park is just beyond words.  I did it a few years ago, the memories will live forever, as will the photographs.  The experience of preparing in the dressing room, as so many greats have done before, was fabulous.

You can enter for yourself, or gift the prize to someone you know aged 18 or over. Competition closes at 15:00 this Friday, 27th.

Good luck!

  1. The Gerrard link is a beauty, no doubt they have already achieved the impact they wanted.

The Gerrard camp are happy too, it will have alerted ambitious clubs with more money than the Orcs ( a very long list) that the man Gerrard is up for a big gig.

Our own support is spending too much time fretting over Media spin, let’s just focus and apply ourselves to the job in hand . Win two more games and we are in the place we want to be. Eyes on the prize, let Brendan do his job. HH

  2. hopefully i don’t come across as being to negative re my comments but

i try not to get overconfident these day’s ,i have been to many of these games in the past when we have pummelled them, played them of the park and only for them to get a lucky break for a pen or a dodgy goal,

lets just get this title won. I know we are playing in a different era now than in the past and times are good onwards and upwards.

  3. makes you think how many trophys we would have won in our history had we had a level playing field ,if refs had been honest and put their alliegances to one side ,my god they were not prepared to let us be the top team in scotland, it had to be the establishment team or nothing, and there was only a few journos who would speak out, come on help me here im thinking ian archer the mcillvaney brothers.hh.

  4. Ron67 you are not being negative just realistic. It’s because of all those times in the past, that we are hesitant to predict scores. Any win will do, let’s just do it.

He’d some size a drum and he didn’t half bang it often on a sunday when we came oot a mass but he was still a great guy and i don’t think that makes him a hun. Am a daft? “

I was quite worried about the semi final, years of bitter experience as you say, I thought they had a punchers chance and factor Madhun in and Bob’s yer Auntie and yer oot the cup but it turned out better than expected.

I’m more confident about this weeks game, us at home full house title 7 to be put in the trophy room, I can’t see us bottling that chance.

That plus they don’t have the players to hurt us if Jason Holt is the answer what in hells name was the question:))

  15. Steven Gerrard is a practising Catholic and I’m sure he will be well aware of the Sevco view of our Faith.

Also, as a father of 3 young girls and a young boy I’m not sure he would be willing to put his entire Fay in the goldfish bowl of Glasgow.

IMHO it’s a move to get the gullibles buy season tickets.

  16. GORDYBHOY64 thanks for the info.

The European Tour wrap up all the costs in the price of their tickets, but £65 still isn’t too bad for the day before the cut!

  17. If Steven Gerrard is not interested in the Sevco job he will have plenty contacts in the media to distance himself from it, instead the media continue to put his name forward, no publicity is bad or a con?
