No bad blood with Eddie, low expectation of Hibs

282

Eddie Howe was generous about Celtic when asked during the press conference announcing him as Newcastle manager.  In his view, he was unable to take on the task of managing such a club without his regular backroom staff, whom he was unable to convince to move to Glasgow.  This was the reason he gave Celtic when rejecting them in May, although I was sceptical then.

Compare that to our own Ange Postecoglou, who accepted the job with nothing more than a list of names detailing those he would work with at Celtic.  He knew none of them.  The contrast could hardly be starker.

Six months later it is easy to forget what shape the club was in when Ange arrived.  A threadbare squad, minus the want-aways, a new CEO in his first job in football with zero on-the-ground experience of European football.  Eddie Howe didn’t have the self-belief that Ange has, but Eddie was right to doubt the job could be done with anything less than the A Team.

Newcastle may have all the money the sovereign investment fund of Saudi Arabia can put their hands on, but spending it effectively in January, tempting transformative players into a club marooned at the bottom of the table, will take more than a jab in the arm before bundling them onto a plane bound for Newcastle.

No bad blood with Eddie, he made the right decision, right for him, right for Celtic, although maybe not right for Newcastle, who failed to lift themselves off the foot of the table last night because of a late equaliser from our old pal Teemu Pukki.

I know what you are thinking.  Hibs bounced Newco out of the League Cup a week ago, can they repeat the result in the league at Easter Road tonight?  Before a win over 10-man St Johnstone on Saturday, that Hampden result was the only time they avoided defeat in six outings.  They are a poor team, dare we expect anything……..?

  1. St Stivs must be something to do with my time in the Port, but like you I come on here to read about things Celtic. I do not need Agents for political parties spouting their nonsense on here. Is this a Celtic blog or not? I want to read opinions about the team we real supporters love, not all that political garbage. If it continues I will cease to come on here. Paul please do something about these politicians. Lets get back to being a Celtic blog.

An open question, to the wider community.

    ———–

Most Celtic sites, blogs, pages etc don’t do politics I find. The only political arguments I see are when folks post about the IRA etc and there is a debate around relevance to Celtic sites. Most seem to be agreed on Higgins and the OBAF etc.

The FB pages have arguments every day and are at playground level. i got called ‘professor, and Harry Potter’ for asking for punctuation! I realised i had come over as a bit condescending so stopped that patter. That was tame, some of the lads get into ‘you’re a hun’ , ‘wouldn’t say that if you met me in the street’ etc.

The politics in here is fine by me and started in 2014 with a significant numbers of new posters supporting Independence (most not seen after the vote). Definitely some ripples still around since then.

I piled in around then occasionally because it wasn’t a square go. It was about 20 on 2 most days and not pleasant. The 2 kept it civil and are still here. I’d say 15 of the 20 are gone.

seems even enough today but the language could be tempered a bit and the baiting reduced. It’s so obvious when someone is looking for a fight and a lot of people log off at that point.

In terms of the CQN ‘salad days’, there have been fights, same point every day posters, red cards and bullying out of the blog since i joined in 2004. More people then so not as repetitive but there were huge fall outs.

still the best blog on Timternet; would be boring if everyone agreed.

    Dearie me.

Even the monikers are getting confrontational now.

Can’t understand why they hate him. Last three games he has been sent off; gave away a goal from nothing; gave away a late penalty

  6. CONEYBHOY @ 10:59 AM,

That’s not a great synopsis of CQN over the years imo.

Yes there has always been battles, yes, much bloodier in the early days I’d suggest.

There’s always been hunfiltrators – I remember defending BBJ and Roy Keane on these pages.

BBJ was called an umpah lumpah and Roy was referred too as Oirish.

Not Celtic fans stirring it up back then in the days when these guys played.

There has always been the politics but it got ridiculous during the independence vote. I don’t recognise the way you describe it though. It was a pretty even bruising encounter.

Lots of monikers on both sides who disappeared – think you have a bit of confirmation bias going on there.

But for me CQN being hand in glove with the Celtic Board and the continuity myth cover up was what did for most posters.

    Some great posters have left.

Of course the clique will tell you it was the inssessent arguments and anti Board stuff that drove them away.

Nonsense, these ghuys could hold there own. And became disillusioned with the Happy clapping.

    They just moved on.

    Hail Hail

Surely if Dundee Utd cannot fulfill their games at their registered stadium its 3 points us?”

    What is this about???

  8. Have not posted on here in a long time but have the occasional read, my god what has happened to this place?

This was the go to site for Celtic conversation which was all that we were interested in. Sometimes people would disagree and have it out with one and other but never nasty. We even had our resident Sevco supporter Edward Ursus who would have civilised chats with anyone but now its just political garbage by multi monickered posters spouting agenda driven shite.HH

  9. OHITS @ 12:09 PM,

    Again I’d disagree with that.

Edward Ursus was on here and posting for a long time, folk used to look forward to his posts.

It was when the “real proper true Celtic supporters” came on that he left.

He was always up for a bit of banter but it was the new clique (new at that time), who drove him and a lot of good contributors away.

    Hail Hail

  10. re madhun tonight, watch how many times he stops play to have a friendly chat with the jam tart’s offender ,knows exactly what he is doing to waste time on their behalf for if never to be added.

Stop asking sensible questions or the cult on will hound you down. they seem to think all Celtic supporters vote snp. This site represents a very small number of people so just ignore them. No doubt I will be called a Tory unionist nothing could be further from the truth although will never vote for the cult.

    Hail Hail.
