  1. To recap on last night’s nonsense. A couple of beers in the Vogue watching the Hibees win. Taxi to Byres Road where we met Bill Nighy in Little Italy. Hand on heart I can say that he is one of the nicest people I have ever had the privilege to meet in my life. An absolute gentleman. His mother grew up in the Gorbals of Irish decent. A quick pint in Tennants that decended into a sing song before heading of the Kelvingrove bandstand to watch Hipsway and sup Birra Moreetti on a beautiful August evening. After which we retired to the Park Bar where I had chat with Dave King and Alistair Johnson and I think I now might own The Rangers. All in all a fairly quiet night. Hh

    FAN-A-TIC

I commented yesterday on how id never seen an easier goal against sevco.

Too easy for the boy Murray.

They panic as soon as you run at them.

    Their defence is tragic.

Our wingers will tear them to bits.

(Apologies to the rest of the blog buRe-produced in full only to avoid tedious upbraiding)

SFTB said “There- I have insulted all North Koreans who voted for him too- but I reckon I can take both those guys.

    Macjay said:-

    “Point of order.

Nobody voted for Kim-Jing Un ( or his daddy who sought , incidentally , the permission of Stalin before he could start the Korean war.)

You know. Just like Castro .

    And brother Raul .

    And other fascist dictators.”

Sheesh!- do you really believe that I think two people voted in North Korean elections? Really? Your lack of irony shines through in response to my joke comment- just as the irony escaped you in TBB’s comments about reindeer in the Serengheti – when you chose to educate him on their absence- even though you later demonstrated that you got the point- Why?

Or that I need lessons on the lack of democracy in certain non-democratic states??

True Democracy is much more than just allowing the people to vote.

It requires free and open access to impartial information- which is why elites rush to own the means of communication and why those institutions that are not subject to such control – your favourite being the BBC- are under such attack and are now reduced to appointing Tories as political correspondents in order to get their license renewed.

We have systems which are more democratic (Russia allows voting but does not allow for regime change from without: China has embraced capitalism but has not introduced democracy) than others but we do not have anywhere that provides a real ideal as yet

  4. FAN-A-TIC…

I got the impression that if Hibs had a bit more belief and urgency they could’ve routed that mob yesterday. The Murray goal was farcical from a defensive point of view.Think the huns might be even worse this season tha last. The jetskiing bull killer is a genius.

Dont waste your time. Its like talking to a pile of sawdust.

  6. Shelvey is a complete balloon. Always liable to something stupid; and that was massively stupid. His days will be numbered at Newcastle after that. Think Rafa will bin him.

Agree Shelvey is a baloon……….will they let him go?

Cheers for that.To be honest,I could not see what had happened.this clears it up.Right in front of Beaton, and the idiot was trying to be sleekit.LOL.

*a bit like sleekit chauncey the day the beast almost took George McCluskey’s leg off.

  9. Newcastle fans showing hunnish tendencies with their reaction to deserved red card.

Wailing and gnashing of teeth at being victims to a correct decision.

    Never liked them .

  10. I know this has been asked in the past but my Welsh woman who’s son supports Liverpool is adamant that Liverpool sang “walk on” first.

Can any of the slightly older grey brigade on here put me right?

  11. MACJAY1 FOR NEIL LENNON on 13TH AUGUST 2017 1:07 PM

    Hush , now.

Lord Haw Haw was an Irishman.

    ;-)

    Is that a racial slur?

‘Lord Haw Haw’ William Joyce was an American citizen, who had resided in British territory for about twenty-four years, applied for and obtained a British passport, describing himself as a British subject by birth.

  12. Sipsini

That subject came up before and I think the consensus was that it was first sung by Liverpool supporters.

Maybe someone can confirm when it was?

  13. Looks like Paranoid Pedro has been given the same ‘keep the larkhall Loya, onside@ scriptwriter as Charles Green had.

  14. SISPINJ

I remember reading that it was Man Utd fans in the late 50s after the Munich Air Disaster. Liverpool was definitely around 1963 when Gerry & the Pacemakers recorded it.

    ————-

Sure I’ve read that Man U fans had sung a version of it first

  16. SIPSINI on 13TH AUGUST 2017 3:08 PM

I know this has been asked in the past but my Welsh woman who’s son supports Liverpool is adamant that Liverpool sang “walk on” first. Can any of the slightly older grey brigade on here put me right?

*actually i always thought that Everton sung it first as they thought that Gerry Marsden was a Toffee. They had a right good team and were reigning champions when it made the top of the charts in the autumn of 1963.

I believe that we started tae sing it in 1969 at the urgency of the Big Mhan prior tae the SC Final tae move away fae rebel songs. Might be a donut here.

Yes Liverpool did sing it before us, they might have sung it first but we sing it best.

  17. Celtic supporters started singing YNWA in the 1970’s well after Liverpool I’m sure.

Green n’ white woolen scarves from the same era were called ‘Walk on’ scarves and they

helped the song catch on when held aloft in unison.

So my older brother told me anyway.

  18. Liverpool were before us, based on the Gerry and the Ps hit, I seem to remember.

Shelvey cost his team a chance of points today. A nailed on red. Dreadful stuff for a team captain. He has previous and am not sure that Rafa will stand for any more of that.

  19. “you’ll never walk alone” was written by Rodgers ( not Brendan) and Hammerstein, for the musical Carousal.

Those guys later wrote ” the sou d of music” in 1965.

Gerry and the pacemakers then recorded it, and Liverpool fans then sang it.

    We then adopted the song.

  21. BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS on

So it seems the jungle did resound to “I’d like to teach the world to sing”

We sure taught them how to sing YNWA.

  22. Celtic sung the walk on first but just after Liverpool and Livingston who we both sang it before but they sang it after BorusunchinRealmadBarcelLinfield.

Macjay told me so it must be wiki.
