Payoffs, what price silence in these circumstances?

883

There’s lots of understandable media interest in the anticipated parting of the ways of ‘Greatest (only) Ever Rangers Manager’ Ally McCoist and newco.  McCoist, as ever, has let it be known that he’s looking for a £400k golden handshake, which will almost certainly have the club offer more of its commercial assets to Mike Ashley if it is to be funded.

I hope he gets everything he asks for, bleed them dry, Ally, even if they need to sell more of their IP.

Irrespective of the final settlement, the most important outcome of the termination meetings is whether or not McCoist agrees to a silence clause in return for his cash.  More than anything else, this club needs some straight talking from trusted sources who know where the bodies are buried.

The cash will be tempting for Ally, but his open and frank voice going forward is of vastly more value to his club, if not to him.  The most debilitating scenario would be an Ashley-funded settlement with a silence clause.  Go for it, Ally.

I know at Christmas your thoughts are never far from Billy No’well.  Billy has broken new ground in the Bampot stakes and released a DVD with 17(!) of his videos.  Full details here.

You can also order the CQN Annual and DVD bundle here. It’s a great offer, check it out – tons of great reading and photos on your favourite indulgence.

If you’re late on the blog, there was an earlier article today.

Evening timland, was a wee bit surprised that our Tonev took a Tony Mowbray but it’s his decision, it’s his reputation.

  2. No ghordybhoy there is an annual Joe strummer tribute night in king tuts. Lots of bands playing clash numbers (some of em very good too). It’s a great night. I don’t often do nostalgia but it’s so good to sing along to clash songs.

If you are in glasgow on Monday night get a ticket. I might even buy you a beer (but only if you allow me to complain about everything and tell you how terrible everything is)…..

  3. Corkcelt.

I do still love ya Corkie!

And yes I do remember some initial witch hunting.

  4. TD, I also heard Hugh state that.

More importantly was the first caller who allegedly reported our hero to some official peeps but called out Hugh asking why he didn’t publish the 5 way handshake. He, the caller, stated he had a copy of the handshake in front of him, also mentioning it had cost a lot of money (in legal fees) to get it.

So, if the press do have access, 1) why don’t they publish it and 2) why would a blue nose want the content shared – assuming it clears up the club history issue?

Oh, near the end they brought on 2 rockets one stating we’ve been punished enough, cut us some slack and a Celtic fan who dearly wants them back and they have been punished enough. Set up me thinks, both calls stinking.

  5. BGX I suspect that we would believe Logan but I like to think I would say there is no proof and the punishment is therefore innapporopriate…

SSB for background. Who was the ‘Celtic fan’ who was giving it all the ‘they’ve punished enough’ pash. Oh and I’m a Celtic fan. ‘And I want them back…..oh and dis I say I was a Celtic fan’

Was he the one who also insisted that they are the same club but should not pay the old club fines?

Rhetorical question …… no need to interrupt your weights lifting.

Was about to say similar. These days, racism is a serious charge. The standard of proof to make that stick should be higher than “balance of probabilities” based on how each party came across in interview. Much has been made of this being the standard of proof required in a civil court case. However, in a civil case the burden of proof is on the claimant – not the defendant.

  11. Bgx,

I honestly don’t know. Id like to believe our man.

    But that’s irrelevant.

It’s just so very likely logan misheard. Not good enough for me to be giving a young man a bad name.

Lennybhoy…have tried to mail you twice today, trouble at my end, only dip in and out when I am allowed the family “i-pad” not sure what everybody is saying today but don’t chase Sevco for £250,000 don’t let the Sfa try and legitimise them, am afraid the debts (football or otherwise) died with club/company that is going through liquidation process

It seems it’s been decided between club and player to ‘move on’ (we don’t even know yet)

If you believe it’s all Celtic’s fault, including his personal statement being made on the Celtic Website whilst he’s a Celtic player instead of somewhere else, then that’s your opinion, not widely held, I’d hope.

If Aleksandar Tonev wished to pursue the matter I prefer to think Celtic would have backed him, as per their consistency from day one, and as recently as last night.

The player was banned by a football panel, he’ll get over it, ( only The Sun readers really think he’s a racist ) and if Celtic did influence his decision, and felt that CAS was procedural, and highly unlikely to change it, even with fire in our belly then so be it.

We move on with the firefighting and bigger battles, we need to and can win.

    Hail Hail

  16. Ghordybhoy y ah me too. I was lucky enough to see the clash when younger (thanks to my friends who then had better taste than me). But hearing the stuff live is great. Let me know if you decide to go.

  17. gerryfaethebrig-seemingly this debt was agreed to be paid by the mystical 5 Way Agreement, Somers admitted that today.HH

  18. I try to be fair whether it’s us or others. The problem with the Tonev case is that someone is being found guilty when he denies it and no one other than his accuser heard him say anything. I don’t like the idea that people are found guilty in this way. It makes it too easy for a person to use the system to unfairly attack someone. If it had been a Celtic player making the accusation while I’d probably believe him I’d understand why no action could be taken.

  19. Bsr,

Tonev will only be with us a short while (I hope he makes it much longer) but mud sticks for a long while.

I think if he wanted to pursue this he would. No matter what ra sellic were advising him.

  20. Geordie Munro…possible…but as Logan reacted straight away..and contrary to what SFTB said last night about not remembering things in the heat of the moment…Misheard would have been the imo the first thing that would have been said in defence of Tonev…i havnt heard anyone say this in his defence…therefore .ive no more to say.on this….

I think I do need evidence.

I mean in the context of a club as member if spl.

anythin post 14/6/12 we are dealing with a new entity..

Silence on our part towards them is correct imo.

the glasgow derby does not oxygewenate them.

dont get to caught up in their meeja Neg,there is a lot to learn but I think at this time we are in an ok place.

china crisis early 80s supportin Japan haha.had hair then :-)

  22. There’s notihng wrong with the way Celtic are conducting themselves over the Tonev matter.

The Scottish clubs signed up to the defining balance of probabilites rule, a little different to the civil proven beyond all doubt through indisputable evidence many on here are upset over.

The hole was dug when the inept haflwits at the SFA were given the excuse for their very ineptitude.

The fatc Celtic are not following it up is because A – it is a pointless waste of time, money and personnel doing so, and maybe tellingly B – Tonev is no long-term project and will soon be on his way.

Shouting tub-thumping rhetoric about ‘taking it all the way’ or ‘back our man’ is empty wish-fulfillment that has NOTHING to do with Celtic; the judgement will do little or no harm to the club due to tonev’s itinerant status, and probably ultimately the same to the player’s reputation given the esteem in which the Christmas tree baubles that run Scottish Football are held in the big world and the actual content of the appeal meeting itself.

The attempt – if any – to ‘stick it to Celtic’ by the SFA is minimal in effect and virtually intangible in affect. Celtic’s best position is indifference; kick the yapping wee dugs off our ankles and get on with business.

So save your breath and angst, fellow Tims, lest we begin to sound like Huns howling at the moon in the face of the actual reality of the situation.

  23. If Tonev had been a loan signing for “The Rangers” – who thinks that an SFA panel would, on the balance of probabilities, have chosen to believe Shay Logan?

I asked last night why Celtic signed up to this rule?

Is the answer the same as why they never opposed Campbell Ogilvie being re elected in opposed?

  25. BSR

    Fair point mate.

I just wish we would get involved in some battles.

We as a club are being taken for mugs IMO.

We seem to be backing away from res. 12, we allow our player to be branded a racist and don’t ever quash the thought that we really want Sevco in the top league.

Just wish we would grow a pair and get tore right into our enemies .
