Pragmatic expectations and serial divorcees

1500

I spoke to a serial divorcee some years ago and he suggested that after one bad marriage, you’re more likely to plunge headfirst into another, then another, than your average person, despite all the warning signs.

He was driven by a need to put things right in his life.  Regretful of lost time, he wanted to get on with finding a secure, lasting, future relationship.

Parma were a tiny club for most of their existence, occupying the fourth tier of Italian football, but they rose inextricably to become one of the top clubs in Europe.  When Rangers knocked them out of the Champions League qualifiers in the 90s, they were sixth top seed in the Uefa rankings.  When the money dried up and insolvency grabbed them a few years ago it must have been hard to accept their place – a club with little substance going for it, but with fans expecting glory.

News this week that after liquidation a newco Parma would kick off at the bottom tier of the professional game in Italy is a morality tale.  Just as my pal, the divorcee, was compelled to plunge into a ‘lasting and successful’ relationship at the first opportunity, few people who pick up the pieces of insolvent football clubs seem to be blessed with pragmatic expectations.  A second, even more damaging liquidation, haunts in the shadows.

In my opinion – Lustig is a long way from being ” world class ” There would have to be a lot of injuries before the Manager of the World X1 gave him a game.

BMWCUWP …. if he turns out has as good as Madalele was in that role (a really great but underappreciated player) we would be on a winner there!

Greenside up …. as above, if there is some thought of moving Fisher into the middle, then it makes more sense. We will see.

south of tunis …. okay … ‘world class’ is a word that many (including myself, obviously!) throw about too often … as you say, he wouldn’t make a world XI, but he is nonetheless a very, very good right back, and, when healthy, one of our best players.

  3. Cheers for info on Dubai

We messed up the dates , never planned to be there during Ramadan but too late now to change.

We are staying at Sofitel in jurmiah beach ..looks nice. Have noticed a lot of places not open and none of the nightclubs will be at their usual levels which is a shame.

As long as we can do the touristy stuff during the day and then have nice dinner and few relaxing drinks at night it should be all good.

I’m on my way to Derry for 3weeks which includes 2 weddings and a stag in Düsseldorf then few nights in Hong Kong on the way back to oz so maybe a more relaxing holiday in Dubai is for the best.

was hoping their was some underground secret bars that let loose all year round :-) least there plenty of them in Derry

  4. Lustig…..like Derk, was signed while he was carrying an injury…..indeed….Derk failed his medical and was signed on a reduced rate!?!?

    Rudderless FC.

Thanks for your reply. At one point last season I thought that he was a certainty to go the same way as Pukki, Balde etc. More than a few have pointed out that his movement and agility have caught the eye. If you look at the highlights v ICT on trophy day, he certainly doesn’t look like an unhappy player. A full pre-season and a bit of confidence early on could see us unearth another gem.

Big Bus Tours will be running.. but traffic in Dubai is horrendous and will be more so during the evening after Iftar (fast breaking .. sundown).

There is now a metro running round the marina area and the normal metro will get you to most of the big shopping malls… if you want to go skiing its Emirates Mall.

Many things to see and visit.. but hot and humid

  8. Want to know ‘how’ good Celtic are….?….’how’ many bids have gone in for ‘any’ Celtic player?

Must say, I’d have thought the huns would have signed more than 2 new players by now. Obviously finding it difficult to get people in.

They couldn’t mess this season up again could they??

  12. Bournemouth sign a left back with no top flight experience for £8m. The games a bogey!!

  18. Gordon j. Hi my friend.

I don’t know if I’m missing something with regards to Ashley and his involvement with them. But I would assume that Ashley would stand to make more money from them, if they were successful. I would have thought that after the new sevco board. Threw his men off the board, that he would have pulled the plug, same with them voting to not repay there loan to him. I’m sticking to my own and tinytims thoughts that he is very much in the picture over Govan way.

They won’t survive the season but, if they do, they will not be promoted with what they’ve got left, and what they’ve brought in….

  22. I didn’t realise Kodi used to be XBMC. I stopped using it. It just didn’t work very well. Might try again.

TET … re: agreeing with me…. I wouldn’t be saying that too loud on here! Or you’ll be put on the naughty list, too! :)

SoT … I think you said you had already seen it, but if not, it is definitely worth a view…. but you have to be in the right frame of mind for it, as it is really quite sad viewing …. clearly there was a lot of pain in her life, and likely some serious mental disorder involved…. but still one of the greatest singers of her generation!

  25. Ashley will do what ever he wants with thems, the real rangers men supposedly running the club right now haven’t a scooby.

It’s just a blazer brogue thing like it was the last time the same ones where there nothing has changed, still to this very day no one knows who holds the deeds to that midden and no one seems in any hurry to divulge who it is either.

And that is where the problem is and always has been, we are now back to the secrecy and PR BS that their fans lap up in big doses and they love that, it’s the make the bad monster go away thing that you do for kids when they are scared.

Clarity was the word the new board said would be their first priority, but thems don’t want to hear it, that’s why they are a bunch of f….. Up deluded zombies in f….ing la la land, and hopefully stay there for many years to come, they deserve all they get from all those years cheating, in one word I call it PARMA. :))

    Doncha just love reading Phil!

I wonder if say,10,000 fans of other football clubs could order new Sevco tops and then send them back unhappy with them?

    Am I being cruel?

    ;)

Yes – I have seen it.Hoping that it sells enough on Netflix to get a Dvd release..

” The people who say I’ m difficult have obviously never met Nina Simone ”

    Miles Davis.

  28. Phyllis Dietrichson on

    I’m disappointed with Phil’s latest.

I had read they were only getting £7.50 for every £100 sold, but Phil says it’s £7.50 for every £50.

So they’re getting double what I had believed, maybe that’s why they’re splashing the cash on such quality signings….mwaaaaaahh!!!
