  1. Don’t usually watch friendlies and never assess where we are at as a team from them. They are only about fitness before the real stuff starts.

However, I was sent a link to watch the game and tuned in. Thought it was a very good workout for the Bhoys. Our French duo did not look out of place in this company. I thought Bain looked very nervous. I thought Ajer’s positional game was poor, caught time and time again playing them on-side. Left back remains a concern. Taylor is a grafter but he doesn’t have the composure/confidence at this level. We were decent in spells without really troubling their goal. I’m not sure we missed Broony. I’d love to see Ntcham, McGregor (poor today), and Rogic given an extended run. Maybe Broony could sit in behind them. That leaves Moy, Ryan and James competing for the final spot in the starting 11.

  2. I thought Taylor and Moi gave them problems first half,as they did with Nice, seem to be getting a good understanding. One thing clear to me,Olly is a class act.

  3. An Tearman – from earlier thanks for getting back to me.

Greenwells at 9.30pm, I think that should be ‘numquam’, according to my skool anyway.

Question – what do the following all have in common?

Bitton, Frimpong, Celtic TV, defence, Ajer, Elyannousi, Taylor, Edouard, Christie, Lenny, Adidas, Rogic, Bolingoli, Celtic staff, McGregor, Lawwell (obviously), pre-season organiser, defensive coaching staff, the board, Desmond, Paul67

Answer – all criticised or blamed on here tonight for Celtic losing a pre-season game.

Mpshanks @ 8:23pm … post of the night (IMHO)

  6. the issue I have with tonights game is that everybody and their granny knows we can not go toe to toe with teams like PSG so would it not been better to have a well organised defensive set up to counter them as it was always going to be PSG attack v our defensive game and we failed miserably with our defensive frailties once again shown up at this level, we have learned nothing that we did not already know , we do not have the players or coaching ability required at this level.

`Cant believe some of the negativity on here after a pre-season fitness excercise against a top quality side at their own ground.`

Well, you should be able to believe it…it happens every time we don`t win !

I didn`t see much of the game but I saw enough to feel confident for the upcoming season (Covid19 permitting).

Champions League `success` will be beyond us ( and beyond all but the handfull of very rich clubs) but I believe we will do well in Scotland and, with a wee bit of luck, in the Europa League as well.

  8. Thank God Brendan Rodgers proved his superiority to Neil by getting beat 7:1 rather than 4:0.

Despite our usual match day visitors, we will forget about these 3 pre-season results just as we forget about every pre-season we moan about.

Given the lack of Celtic football, I hope we can fit in another televised practice match vefore the Hamilton game.

Nobody’s angst is going to come down below 11 on the dial anytime soon.

Strap yourself in and enjoy the battle to make it 10 iar.

  9. The Headlines on the BBC site:

PSG 4-0 Celtic: Mbappe and Neymar score in friendly. (It is in much bolder print on their site).

Why would a Friendly be given such prominence?

    Good night all.

  10. The result didn’t matter,if therewas ever a time to go toeto toe and see how we fare tonight was the night

The Huns Approached their games based on a tight defence & hit on the break & in all fairness didwell & won the Viola Cup.

Problem is when SPFL restarts the sit in game is not needed by either team.

As I sais earlier didn’t see tonight’s game but have read a lot about it.

I repeat whatI said earler what happened in France doesn’t make a blind bit of difference to anything

    100% correct.

Usual suspects on again who never post when Celtic win. The PSG subs would walk into almost any other team. Julian Draxler can’t even get a game FFS. Reality check needed by some Celtic fans whilst the other ones, I assume, just come on here on the wind up.

I will not throw any of the players or management under a bus because of this result. It serves no purpose. Three things stand out for me.

1 Eddie is an outstanding player but Mbappe is the first £200 million footballer. This the yardstick we have to measure ourselves against.

2 We missed Broonie which was a double whammy

    A His ability

B His captaincy and leadership, especially when the going got really tough.

3 Disgraceful attack by some on here on CalMac . Never ever seen him missing including the infamous left back game.

PS Slippy will be assured his team dodged a bullet tonight by being safely elsewhere.

Looks like we have spent a lot of money(for us) on players who might not make it.😠

  15. Rangers were very lucky tonight,

But hey, thats them won the league championship.

  16. TimHorton

I agree, especially recently, we have some major hits in there too though. We’ve had to be patient but Christie and Ajer, Deila signings are great, whenever Rodgers was given money Edouard, Ntcham and Sinclair, those have been major successes.

It’s the mystery signings that no one is taking any responsibility for Shved, Bayo,Arzani, Bolingoli, what a waste of money. The other worrying thing for me is I’ll be really surpraised if we see any meaningful contributions from Klimala and Soro, they don’t look ready for me unfortunately.

Think we need 3 ready pro’s to go right into team, if that’s loans like Elyounoussi which i think is the right way to go then so be it, too important to just hope for the best, with unproven players. HH

  17. The hand of God on

Seem to remember PSG beating Barca 4-0 at home not so long ago they regularly beat domestic opponents by 6,7 or even 8 goals .Mbappe and Neymar’s transfer fees were roughly 4 times our yearly turnover and the posters who only appear on here whenever Celtic lose expect us to compete with PSG.

Here’s what you did say earlier:-

My main point though is if NFL does go on to have an overall record than BR (i have my doubts)

You suggested Neil had a poorer overall record than Brendan and that you doubted he would ever do as well as Brendan’s. That sounds like an accusation of inferiority to me.

    Brendan’s European record is

    Qualifying : 11W 5D 5L

Group : 4W 3D 11L (2 CL Groups and 1 EL; Brendan has only ever won 1 CL Group game)

    Post-Group : 1W 3 L (All in EL)

    Neil’s European Record is

Qualifying :16W 2D 4L (all but 4 ties were CL qualifiers and I discounted the 2 Sion ties)

    Group: 9W 5D 10L (4W 1D 7L in his 2 CL Groups)

Neil’s record is a little better than Brendan’s. The only area of clear superiority is in post group ties where Brendan has 1 win and 3 losses to Neil’s 1 draw and 3 losses (But 50% of Neil’s ties were CL and all of BR’s wee Europa). I don’t buy the different era argument. They both operated in the 2010’s with only 2 years of Ronny Deila seperating their eras.

Taking domestic & Europe together , Neil has a 72.11% win rate, Brendan’s is 69.82% (pretty similar and not evidently superior when you allow that all BR’s teams had to face an Ibrox team).

In terms of attractiveness, Neil’s teams average 2.26 goals per game to BR’s 2.22, and Neil’s concedes 0.79 to BR’s 0.80- again no clear objective evidence of NFL having to play any catch-up on BR.

I get that you like what you felt BR brought to this club. Neil does not have anything like the rep that BR enjoys currently. We just have the small matter that the stats do not back up this subjective evaluation of their merits

    Goodnight Now!

  20. SFTB

So you’ve moved the goalposts from proving his superiority to sounds like an accusation of inferiority, nice little pirouette. This is what you’ve inferred from my post, wrongly as it happens.

I think its far fairer to compare BRs record of the last nearly 3 seasons to Neil Lennons 3 seasons which are back to back, the landscape was somewhat different 9 yrs ago for a variety of reasons.

I absolutely love what BR brought us but just for the record im also a big fan of NFL.

Which brings me to my main point, why do fans indulge in a constant game of top trumps? To constantly snipe and put the boot into one of our most successful managers in our history says much more about the sniper than our ex manager. He left us 9M for his move, 8pts clear in the league, still in the Scottish cup and an unprecedented 50M in the bank, your stats don’t include that little gem. Quite frankly we’ve never been in a better position in our history.

He had a clash of personalities with his boss, unless you’ve been in that position you’ll not know that its inevitable that one employee will leave and it certainly wasn’t going to be Peter Lawwell.

For people to continually hold a grudge and continue to rewrite history for someone who was so successful and BR was the bad guy and Peter Lawell was the good guy, i question the motivation and feel sad for those who harbour those grudges, life’s way to short and precious for that imo.

I personally know 4 ex Celtic player’s not one of those 4 players sing the praises of Peter Lawwell, that alone tells me this was no good guy bad guy scenario its been painted. I’ll leave it there, where is the love?

  21. Tobago Street on

At the end of Book three, in Lord of the Rings, half way through the Two Towers Gandalf admonishes Pippen “…the burned hand teaches best.”

I don’t believe that any team in Scotland works harder than Celtic. But hard work is not enough. Thinking quickly is key. And most of that thinking has to be done before the game starts and before any individual has the ball. And as was mentioned earlier, first touch is most important for quick execution. I’m hoping we were paying attention to tonight’s game. It was a lesson.

I don’t foresee Celtic having a particularly difficult time in Scotland in this most important of seasons but we can be better than we are and I think management knows this.

We had our hands burned tonight. I’m hoping that when Neil Lennon now talks about ‘fire’ the words are taken to heart!

    T

  22. was going to post this before the game points still same

    1. Celtic has been very lucky financially during Covid,

    a) very few have asked for season ticket money back from, last year

    b) season tickets sold out for coming season

    c) large amount of players let go eg Hayes who Neil wanted to keep but was told no because of Covid cuts

    d) no match day costs or travelling or win bonus paid out

    e) negative effective of loss of merchandising for 3 months , but new Adidas contract has balanced out

sooo why are we starting the season far weaker than last year?????

why is Neil Lennon telling celtic TV he has no budget and rolling his eyes up and laughing at

    the question ???

there are many clubs in Europe with severe financial issues

Celtic FC is not one of them

at start of last season we had close to 50m after adding KT money to cash pot, everyone was saying there is plan

maybe Fraser foster does not want to come back to Celtic, but you can bet your bottom dollar that peter lawell has not pushed the boat out for him, he will be trying to get him for as cheap as possible

so next time you see the Belgium anton rogan ( boli boli) coming on, just remember who sources him and approved him

    1. John the man who puts out the cones Kennedy

    2. peter all i am intested in is balance sheet lawell

lawell is a disaster for us, runs everything

  23. Guess that’s it then, season’s finished and you can forget 10 in a row!

Oh woe is me, we’re doomed, doomed I tell ye!

Not kicked a ball in earnest but season’s heading for disaster, well apart from possibly 2 cup games that could give us another treble.

Did anyone expect us to beat PSG? ok losing a first minute goal was not the start we needed but you’ve got to admit that they were 2 helluva decisive passes to create it.

Set up defensively, Why? It’s a pre season friendly and we need to get game time into our players legs. First attempt missed against Hamilton you’d hear the screams ” why did we not play our attacking players in France, no wonder the’re rusty.

We had some spells when we were ok but sometimes our passing let us down. Having said that did you notice how quickly we were closed down. Unlucky for Julliens header to hit the post. 10 days to prepare for the Accies and start a ” Very Important Season”

I see the denizens of the Globe Theatre have already started ” Sack the Bard”

    HH

  24. Fes19. I think we will get 10 in a row

But why are we are we not trying to improve from a position of strength ?

That is a reasonable question for discussion ??

  25. ST

Has there been figured released on the refunds.? Would be interesting to know the %age and if other clubs have released their figures for comparison

    Hail Hail

  26. Coney bhoy. I think the financial effect of COVID 19 on the club would be good to see

I might be wrong and I am many times :) but I think our costs have substantial reduced with no major reducing of income

So if true then question the same

Why are we not investing the money we have in improving the team ??

  27. Good morning cqn from a rather wet Garngad

Why do people get upset about people having opinions?

    Baffles me.

Anyhow I still say we need a 1st team ready keeper

    Bain should be back up.

    D :)

  28. If Peter Lawell is as bad as people/ex players/ Brendan Roger’s is telling us through friends etc.

Why have no ex players or BR came out in the Press and said so and tell us why he is the big bad wolf.. awe is it because they dont love our club as much but love the pay off and sign confidentiality clauses.

They are As bad as each other and we the fans are pawns in the middle.

    D :)

  29. I have a wee rule of thumb when Celtic get beat: how do I sleep afterwards. Last night I slept 6 solid hours, which for me is quite something. So, I think all those prophets of doom who glog up CQN preseason should hold back and see what happens when the football starts.

  30. bluegrass celt on

We didn’t expect to beat PSG but we should be using these games to prepare a defensive set up for Europe since we won’t need one in our league games. We have learned the square route of heehaw on how to defend as a unit .

It grates me to say it but the new Rangers are ahead of us on that one ( they did get further than us in Europe last season).

We look prettified when teams like PSG come at us and end up ball watching . A good defensive coach could bring awareness to the players we have. Unfortunately, John Kennedy isn’t that man

  31. Blue grass. John Kennedy has virtually zero experience at playing and no experience at tactics

He was the fitness coach who was responsible for putting the cones out during the BR time

And is well known for being Pl man

Apart from Neil we have no experience in the football department

  32. !!Bada Bing!! on

PCS- I think a lot of the moans happen when we unnecessarily put ourselves against one of the world’s best teams, there was only going to be one outcome, as for working on a defensive shape, and a team formation to develop? Play opposition you can do this against, not football’s equivalent of the Harlem Globetrotters, where we don’t get time or space to string 3 passes together.

  33. Wow..

I see the usual whingers put the band back together last night with those old time classics…”Whurz all the money gone ? (COVID19 remix)”….”They’ve taken Jonny Hayes away”….and….”Peter Lawell stole my girlfriend..”

Well I for one am sick and tired of these barren years of winning nothing.
