Rate card for Kent violence suggests 4 game ban

232

Alfredo Morelos apologised to Newco fans for his red card on Sunday.  The incident, which marked the troubled striker as the player sent off more times in a single season than anyone in the history of European football, may yet do him good.  The Mea Culpa moment and the weeks suspended from action will provide an opportunity to the player to get some help.

You and me have previously discussed how clever you need to be to be a footballer these days.  Now, it is not all about having brains in your feet, as it was in Charlie Nicholas’ days.  Footballers need to make hundreds of decisions in line with tactical plans each game.  They also need emotional intelligence to make the most of their talent.  Managers will only invest time in players who cannot learn for so long.  Gordon Strachan’s limit was telling a player something three times, after that, he moved on.

Of immediate concern is what the SFA Review Panel will do to Ryan Kent, Newco’s best player on Sunday, who delivered an upper cut to Scott Brown in the aftermath of James Forrest’s winning goal.  Punching off the ball is rare in the game.  Bilel Mohsni’s punch on Motherwell’s Lee Erwin in 2015 resulted in an additional three-match ban for “excessive misconduct” on top of a one game ban for the red card, and another three for totting up.  Kent is 22-years-old, a guiding ban at this stage of a fruitless season would not be the worst thing for the player.  The rate card indicates he should spend four games contemplating his violence.

“Morelos, who had one of his red card rescinded, was dismissed for elbowing Scott Brown in the face, reacting to an off-the-ball trip by the Celtic captain.”

I have not read or heard of ANY media outlet that has reported that whole incident accurately.

In the full unedited footage it is very clear that Morelos initiates the whole thing by veering into Scott Brown as both look upfield. As soon as he connects with Scott he moves off a little just as Scott reciprocates with his foot.

If the media don’t report accurately what happened so that a distorted impression is given are they called “Fake Media”?

I’ve amended the above quote to guide the partially sighted orintegrity devoid media man who wrote it.

“Morelos, who had one of his red card rescinded, was dismissed for elbowing Scott Brown in the face, after he unsuccessfully tried to provoke Scott Brown via an off-the-ball avoidable contact on the Celtic captain.”

Ryan Kent is the only person I’ve ever seen ‘push’ somone with a clenched fist. Can you imagine all the boxing titles which will surely now be rescinded because the punches that judges awarded points for were actually non-scoring ‘pushes’?

Well, with KT injured, Izzie not doing it, and Hayes apparently not seen as a full-time left back, we are a bit light in that position…

but I was actually thinking of SLO …. Halliday appeared to be listening to their supporters, and seemed to care what they thought …. it would be a nice change to have someone like that at Celtic.

Very good post re Scott Brown and almost exactly how I felt when he signed, in 2008 – I can remember postingon here about winning the midfield and that we had to play Hartley and Robson.

Like you say, his improvement year on year is incredible, he was finished 2 seasons ago according to many!!

On other matters…. The reporting of events during and after the game are an insult to intelligence. I would expect a speedy and strongly worded statement from the club If there is even the slightest hint of us being dragged into this.

  14. Police have consulted with authorities about Brown behaviour in headline from Evening Times. No mention of assaults on him but if it doesn’t suit your agenda I suppose you just ignore it. Fab journalism as per usual in our lovely wee country…..

  15. We have a saying in Belfast, and it sums up Geraldo and his orchestra. He’s a bad chiel. Agressive with his mates around him. Thick as mince, and not an ounce of empathy for anyone. He deserves them, and they deserve him.

As for the “case” against Brown–just get the highlights of Ibrox in December and all the other incidents involving Sevco, and go for those bastards in the cops and the SFA.

Get a top-notch QC to do it.

  16. Halliday for Celtic!!!

Halliday already does a fine job for Celtic by being pish every time we play them.

  21. “SETTING FREE THE BEARS FOR RES. 12 & OSCAR KNOX on 2ND APRIL 2019 11:59 AM

    Here’s a question to ponder.

Do we think it is safe for us to field Scott Brown in our team at Ibrox?

Following Stevie Gee’s statements, I think SB is a marked man for retaliation other players and the Ibrox crowd.

Do we have a duty of care not to expose Scott to that?

But who would dare tell Scott he is not playing in that game?”

    More to ponder:

    a)What if play Scott and he is seriously assaulted ? ;

    b) But, if we don`t play Scott are we are giving power to dangerous people?

The Police , by wildly exaggerating events from Sunday ( A play for more funding?) , are beginning to create an environment wherby the game at Ibrox could lead to genuine `worst ever` behaviour by supporters.

  25. Right up to the next Hun game at Ipox, Celtic and Lenny should just keep them guessing IF Scott Brown will be playing….and then leave him OUT of the Squad.

Celtic DO have a Duty to protect their employees. Let the Hun and the Media say what they like if Broonie doesn’t Play.

IF I was Lenny, and obviously I am not….and Broonie played and was seriously assaulted especially by any Hun Pitch Invader at Ipox, Neil would be blaming himself instead of the real culprit(s) ?

the other way to look at it is, wouldn’t it be even better to beat the Hun in their own Midden with several youngsters in the starting X1 ?

    Just my opinion.

  28. Celtic have announced their first-ever fan festival will take place this summer in Glasgow.

The “Celtic FC Festival” is set to be held at the city’s Scottish Event Campus (SEC) over three days in July with the club promising an “unprecedented celebration”.

The Premiership champions insist the event will raise the bar for fan engagement and will feature a range of activities such as crossbar challenges, interactive history walks and an exclusive launch of the club’s third kit for the 2019/20 season.

The festival is poised to take over the entire SEC complex, more than 20,000 sq/m, and will even host a football pitch where youngsters can be put through their paces by Hoops academy coaches.

The weekend-long exhibition is being staged in conjunction with Glasgow-based PSP Media Group and will run from July 26-28.

A club statement said: “Once again, Celtic Football Club is showing itself to be a club like no other, leading the way with the creation of a world-class exhibition event that promises to raise the bar in fan engagement.

“The inaugural Celtic FC Festival, taking place from July 26-28, will see Paradise descend upon the SEC in Glasgow for an unprecedented celebration of the cub.

“The Celtic FC Festival will be massive, taking up all 20,000sq/m of exhibition space the SEC has to offer, and will be a great day out for all the family. From the moment fans enter the Celtic FC Festival, they will be entering into the wonderful world of Celtic .

“Moving through the space, fans will be met by lots of fantastic football activities, such as free-kick, penalty-kick and crossbar challenges, along with other fun elements such as head tennis and football darts, to name a few. The hall will be filled with great interaction for all.

“Not only will the world’s biggest Celtic superstore have all the new season 2019/20 kits, it will also host the official and exclusive launch of the new third kit. In addition, fans will be entertained by on-going fashion shows, showcasing all the new kits, training gear and much, much more.”
