Rate card for Kent violence suggests 4 game ban

232

Alfredo Morelos apologised to Newco fans for his red card on Sunday.  The incident, which marked the troubled striker as the player sent off more times in a single season than anyone in the history of European football, may yet do him good.  The Mea Culpa moment and the weeks suspended from action will provide an opportunity to the player to get some help.

You and me have previously discussed how clever you need to be to be a footballer these days.  Now, it is not all about having brains in your feet, as it was in Charlie Nicholas’ days.  Footballers need to make hundreds of decisions in line with tactical plans each game.  They also need emotional intelligence to make the most of their talent.  Managers will only invest time in players who cannot learn for so long.  Gordon Strachan’s limit was telling a player something three times, after that, he moved on.

Of immediate concern is what the SFA Review Panel will do to Ryan Kent, Newco’s best player on Sunday, who delivered an upper cut to Scott Brown in the aftermath of James Forrest’s winning goal.  Punching off the ball is rare in the game.  Bilel Mohsni’s punch on Motherwell’s Lee Erwin in 2015 resulted in an additional three-match ban for “excessive misconduct” on top of a one game ban for the red card, and another three for totting up.  Kent is 22-years-old, a guiding ban at this stage of a fruitless season would not be the worst thing for the player.  The rate card indicates he should spend four games contemplating his violence.

I didn’t understand the thought behind that prosecution …. in most sports, there is an implied consent to a certain amount of physical contact … so, in order to attract criminal attention, the conduct has to be far beyond the line….

in the NHL (hockey), where you are allowed to punch each other, there have been 3 (that I recall) criminal charges… usually where a stick has been involved, and a party has suffered a significant injury …

in the Ferguson/McStay case, there was a headbutt, but the only injury was a split lip, as I recall ….so, I never figured out why charges were laid. DF did have a significant rap sheet (including, I believe, 2 prior convictions for assault), so that may have factored into the decision… but, I never understood the thought process there …

ZZ wasn’t charged for headbutting Materzzi …nor Roy Keane for his assault on Haalaand … although he made some pretty damning statements afterwards, which would have been pretty good evidence of intent…

from my view, the Kent/Brown incident was a slap, with little or no long lasting effect … cant see a prosecutor pushing that forward… Kent should be banned for a few games, and things should move on ….

more than that is, in my opinion, playing into the zombie hands … like the shame game, trying to create a false equivalency that does not exist in reality.

” The point of this post is I am fed up reading the negative posts on here. We get enough of that from the msm, in fact, there are a few posters on here I’m convinced do have agendas and they often set the tone. One good thing is I’m learning who to scroll by.”

Could not agree more. I also agree with your end paragraph re ` I’ve never known a better time to be a Celtic fan`

So, unless I am one of those you scroll by,I hope reading this lets you know you are not alone in your view.

The Hun game reminded me of the Motherwell at CP when they ‘scored’ that goal. We were all out of sorts for about 20 mins after it, similar to the Hun game, bhoys probably thought ‘how the hell did that happen’

  5. Villareal V Barcelona just started on ITV4. Think I`ll give it a watch.

Don’t think Kent’s punch was a slap at all. Believe they targeted Brown. When the game plan imploded they became deranged. Driven insane by defeat.

Agree there’s little point in pursuing it – primarily because Scottish authorities (Police Feds, SFA) couldn’t let us win. Justice is not part of their DNA.

If Andy Halliday really wanted to protect his people, he would have thrown acid in their eyes. That would give them the greatest protection possible from having to watch that shower of shoite.

Has seethy G been cited for bringing the game in to disrepute? Nah, me neither!

  10. T’was good to see Leigh at Celtic Park pre match, Hopefully he will be back for pre season, Maryan Shved seems to be having a great season in Ukraine & Lewis Morgan is getting good reviews in Sunderland & we have an unknown quantity in Bayo. There are quite a few potential stars like Ralston, Dembele, McInroy & Oko flex around . Hopefully we might have a fit Kouassi & Arzani to look at. Now all we need is Compper to make himself a hero. I could have included Gutman , Perez & Mulumbu but I didn’t want to totally overdo it

    Good post.

I don’t subscribe to the we’re no playing well since ‘Lennon’ came tosh, because since he did come we won at Tynecastle ( last visit we got beaten with Rodgers) we won at Easter Rd ( last visit we got beaten with Rodgers ) we won against Sevco ( we got beaten with Rodgers ) we’ve improved results wise, in a comparative number of games with the previous manager, So we’re, not blowing teams away 5-0 and somehow thats ‘Lennon’s’ fault with BR players, or could it be down to posters that ‘don’t rate Lennon’ in the first place.

Its all Brendan Rodgers players every single one of them, 13 points clear spoiled, spoiled posters some that barely even make it to the pub to watch the game, never mind get behind the club.

  20. Was having a wee think there about Lenny, i think it may actually suit him to have Gerrard around. Gerrard has a huge profile and the hacks foam over his every word. All you seem to hear about is what he’s been saying. Lenny seems a wee bit below the radar so far in terms of smsm coverage.

  21. Referring to my earlier post; I’ve been thinking about the players signed the last time Neil was the manager???

Forster- fantastic keeper, ‘le gran muralla’ if that’s the right phrase? Was always going to be good enough for England. Went into obscurity since leaving us.

Izzy – great servant and underrated. Can still do a job for us now when fit. Was never quite the same after his leg break.

Virgil van D – arguably the worlds best defender

Chas Mulgrew – still holding his own in a league that is arguably of a higher standard than the SPL and certainly pays more money.

    PC Lustig – ?????

Big Victor – bring him home! Give him 67

Joe Ledley – not sure what he’s doing now… did decent with palace in eland did a job for us up here. Probably just wanted more money. Fair enough… maybe now Lenny might be able to offer what guys like that will play for – just a thought

Kayal – decent career after leaving us. Was never the same player after that thug bangura ripped his studs down his achilles

Commons – crucial player to us. His lack of support in front of the media is questionable

Hooper – all his best football was with us. It’s this we have to sell

Stokes – one of the most Gallus players I’ve seen. Would never get a game in a team coached by Roland.

Teemi Pukki is also doing extremely well now that he’s found a club that suits him!

When Lenny was at hibs and faced Celtic; his record was lost 3, won 2, drew 2….

Hibs always gave us a game… the tactical battle was always good. Thankfully we came good on important occasions…. like the cup games.

Was that down to the manager or the players?

I wonder what the scores would have been if the managers if the squads were in role reversal????

    Hail Hail??

Correct. I know a few Celtic fans that do that… when referencing Neil.

Grinds me that they can’t see it and often makes me question if it’s me who can’t see what they see?

You’ve just given me the answer…. cheers ?

    Hail Hail ??

  24. Larssonse7en

Agree with more or less all of that apart from Anthony Stokes

Probably the laziest most selfish player i have seen in the Hoops. Technically quite good, but not one footballing brain cell in his head

Thought he was way better than he was

    Imo

  25. Stokesie was all too often the most lax and laziest bassa I’ve ever seen in the Hoops!

NFL’s others read as a v v good team, with some amazing players.

It does however rather taken us back to the alleged impasse that caused him to leave, ‘PL/DD kept selling his best players and replacing them with Rafael….’

Was this the case? If so, will it have changed?

Fair enough man. Good post and thanks for the response.

I say ‘gallus’ as he could do things other players couldn’t. He certainly had the skill as you say… and Lenny seemed to bring out the best in him. I’ll never forget his contribution at Kilmarnock, or some of the goals he scored with Gary Hooper. The interlinking play… a joy to watch at times.

    Hail Hail ??

I just see it as the perfect calm after a potential storm.

Perhaps Neil wanted too much at the time. He’s alluded to that himself. He’s since gone on to take a very tough job at Bolton, a club going through admin… and did a decent enough job. He was then very good at Hibs. He’s matured and learned a lot.

Club wise…. we’ve vastly improved, it would appear, in the science department and the professionalism at the club whilst winning every domestic trophy we’ve entered in the last 3 years.

Was this down to Brendan Rodgers or was this more a coming of age of the players? Rodgers did something to unite the club in a way I haven’t seen since Henke and MON.

But it turns out, unlike Henke… and even the bunnet…. he was a cheat.

I don’t like cheats that leave their partners in the lurch for the lure of something that suits them better at that time…. call me old fashioned!

    That’s why I call Rodgers Roland…. he’s a cheat ergo a rat.

    Hail Hail ??

*I watched a game where early doors Lenny was on the touchline screaming at him tae get working. Anthony looked at him quite bemused.

I was against us buying him as he had turned us down for Sunderland, i was also against the signing of Harry Hood as he had done the same thing also for the Wearsiders. Just glad they did now as they were both very good goal scorers.

  29. TT 11:21

I’d love to have see Harry Hood. Anthony scored some spectacular goals for us. Some of his assists were even better.

And he did a “no bad joab” when Hibs last won the Scottish Cup ???????
