The disappointment online and among supporters in general since Tuesday’s defeat in Rotterdam has been tangible. That’s an indication of just how hopeful we had become, despite extenuating circumstances and an away track record that should have prepared us for much worse.
Frustrations were shared by the squad, who know they let an opportunity slip. For me, a reversal was always on the cards. The game came too soon, with a mixture of players who made their debut just days before and ended with our seventh choice (arguably eighth) central defender stepping up.
We need games and results like that. There is little to learn from wins over Dundee; even the victory at Ibrox can only inform to an extent. You learn more from defeats in places like Rotterdam and Bodo than in a season of home Premiership games.
It should also ground you and me. When Celtic win just-so-many-trophies it becomes difficult not to re-orientate our expectations that the current era is normal. The CQN demographic suggests most of us have lived through the barren 90s and many of us were there during the 50s and early 60s, but even we get dragged into despair by the odd draw. What chance the kids?

I know some posters enjoy a list so, here is one of St Tams positive posts:

Fine thanks, I trust it’s fine down south as well.
Aye somethings just no right, only my opinion, hopefully it’s bollix but I don’t believe it is.
We have had chance after chance to stretch away from the scum, yet we never take it, for people who’s God is money, I find that hard to get the head around, the money is to be made in Europe, not in Scotland, I fully understand our transfer policy, but I don’t believe we are implementing it effectively, we need to mix projects with experience, a few other clubs manage it, yet we make the same mistakes time after time, for sure we are doing great in a one horse league, which we are making into a two team league, as long as the majority are happy with that and it seems they are, nothings gonna change.
Old boys network, a bit like Old Firm
the tv deal…
why should any broadcaster pay more than what the current sky deal is.
they are paying for games often played in half empty stadiums and by teams who are not interested in trying to make it an entertainment.
i think sky are paying over the odds for it!!
I have posted a few times that a proper granny eating def mid won’t win us the CL, but it sure would help us not to get skelped time after time, it’s not like we can’t afford it.
!!BADA BING!! @ 4:41 PM,
Good presser, thanks for posting.
That’s a few times he mentioned the January window – it will be daft to get our hopes up but quality and experience into the mix is very much the call.
He is obviously very focused on getting the best in our remaining UCL games and looking at Europe after Christmas
Feyenoord at Celtic Park seems one he’s gunning for…

That surprises me, it’s obviously a natural talent
It’s not necessarily political, it can be used in other forms of manipulation. Bit strongly worded but you get the idea
“Accusation in a mirror (AiM) (also called mirror politics, mirror propaganda, mirror image propaganda, or a mirror argument) is a hate-speech incitement technique where one falsely attributes to one’s adversaries the intentions that one has for oneself and/or the actions that one is in the process of enacting.”
Sunak was at it this morning. Trump is a master of it.
Looking back on the Champions Lge stats of the las 23 years makes interesting reading.
Spain 11 times winners
England 6
Germany 3
Italy 2
Porto 1 the odd man out, 20 years ago
Unless Celtic get some divine help from Brother Walfrid and the almighty himself we and other similar clubs are unlikely to win the big Cup but just to keep it as a cash cow to bolster our finances.
We have the six nations in rugby and the Four nations, not sure about the French, in football.

I’ve never heard of polishing one’s own mirror, but my mindfulness practice has never extended beyond the basic stuff, even though I’ve been doing it daily off and on for years.
THE EXILED TIM @ 5:05 PM,
Logic tells you that BR wouldn’t come back without cast iron guarantees
He wasn’t happy with the window and wants to get players in, in January
So why the disconnect?
I’m going to speculate on a mibees
Maybe our active investor doesn’t have the clout in the Boardroom he once had!?
In the meantime, like you say, old firm R’US.

All the best to Eintracht Frankfurt tonight. Will always have a place in my heart after stopping sevco a couple of years ago.
Hope they give aberdung a right pumping
`We have had chance after chance to stretch away from the scum, yet we never take it,`
Our record v Sevco over the last ten seasons would suggest otherwise .
Cheerio for now.
JJ
If you want to believe that, Fine.

Aye, OF R’us alright
Real Betis originally played in all blue jerseys and white shorts, for no other reason than the easy availability of such plain colours.[citation needed] But one of the founders and captain, Manuel Ramos Asensio, was keen to take advantage of his relationships made while studying in Scotland, contacted Celtic (whose green and white colours matched the Andalusian regional flag) and obtained the same fabric to make kits for his own club. Ramos had the lines re-orientated from horizontal ‘hoops’ into vertical stripes to make the shirts (no other Spanish club used the combination at the time). There is no mention of Celtic or Scotland in the history of Betis on the club’s official website,[6] but in 2017 the club officially acknowledged the link by producing a special hooped kit to coincide with Andalusia Day.[
If part of the problem is the standard of teams we play week in week out why dont we follow the Erivisid… the dutch league by sharing some of the income teams in Europe receive.
Its only 5% or so but would hopefully help improve the standard of our competition.
Also with the mention of a larger league being full of more kick and rush teams – or whatever term you use – is the thinking not that it would free teams from the fear of being relegated, so they may try and play more progressively.
CELTIC40ME @ 5:19 PM,
Agreed, it is important to do a good mindfulness practice regularly.
“Practice and study” can be quite specific but realising there are many paths to the Perennial Philosophy.
The Western World is now so screwed up that whatever way you can de-stress and find clarity has to be a huge plus.
“Polishing the mirror” can have many meanings – seeing through a tarnished image for clarity is one.

I am going to give myself the same license to speculate as to why BR is not ranting, dog-whistling or walking this time around.
He is aware that we tried very hard to land his first choice goalkeeping target (Kelleher) and an un-named LB in the last window. He is disappointed about this but doesn’t blame anyone for falling down on their job. He recognises that the keeper didn’t come because his manager wanted to keep him as a reliable back up and he accepts the reasons for the failure to land his LB target too.
Rather than go down the target list to get next best options, he was happy to wait till January and go again. Yes, that hampers us in the short term including the CL campaign, but it potentially benefits us in the longer run and that is his long term aim- to leave a better legacy, just as Ange did in 2 years.
He could not have been clearer in his presser today. Ha gave an emphatic no (No side of mouth statements, no unclear body language and no dog whistling) to the question about being disappointed in the window. He did so because, despite his actual disappointment, he doesn’t want an internal war and chaos this early in his stay. He doesn’t want to reinforce any perceived split between the football and finance departments because there isn’t one. He accepts that our better targets will sometimes have better options or , in Kelleher’s case, no freedom to make the move.
in the meantime, like you may have noticed, we went to the home of our O** F*** associates and cuffed them with our reserves and a team full of duds- that’s how much we wanted to help them.
Majestic Hartson…………..Let’s not forget Holland has a population of 20 million, so more teams. On the evidence of Tuesday night I was not impressed with Feynoord when Celtic blew it, being architects of their own downfall and Eindhoven’s heavy defeat to Arsenal. How good is the Dutch league on this evidence?
Hankray,
Its ranked by UEFA as 6th best league in Europe, just behind France.
Hankray…. Though I agree, i wasn’t overly impressed by what I saw.
Majestic Hartson…………..Interesting point you make about the sharing of the income participating teams in Europe receive with the others in the Dutch Lge.

You only have to look at the amount of time we spend in the virtual world to understand bin the present and being grounded in reality has never been more difficult or important :)
Not sure it can make that much difference.
I just saw the figures from 2018 when the agreement was reached. Feyenoord earned 25m euros from the CL group and 5% of that comes to around 1.7 m euros to be distributed between 12 or so Dutch clubs.
Of course there was some money coming in from Europa and Conference clubs too but 5% of very little does not add much to that pot. Now, if they can get 3 teams from the league into the CL Group stages, the non participating clubs might get as much as 400k but that rarely happens.
We already gave a similar amount of money to create VAR in the SPFL
Pre Souness arriving at the bigot dome, Scottish football could compete on the world stage, we used to qualify on a regular basis at most world cups, Scottish players were the backbone of many brit teams down south, Souness then in one fell swoop destroyed it, he brought in footballing mercenaries and the rest of Scottish football to try and catch up brought in lesser players to the detriment of bringing through players from their youth systems.
The huns have much to answer for IMO.
dons 1 1 against eintracht F
Most leagues in Europe are stripped of talent by marauding EPL teams ( PSV and Feynoord have been casualties of this). So a poor Feynoord and battered PSV were not really a surprise.
Re DD losing influence its a fair point. On the big one-off decisions he will have the final say. On the day to day running by the execs very little as our Chairmans puppets defer to him. DD probably resents this as his man was given a poor mans version of the magnificent 7 courtesy of a bumbling recruitment novice.
Of course DD could fire the Chief Control Freak but his role with ECA makes this difficult esp of their are strategic options in play related to Celtic.
So DD will be enjoying a fine wine as he deliberates over the options, Brendan will give them one last chance, the Lawwells will chuckle as they and their place-men are here for the long haul. The fans will become more disillusioned.
Celtic have money in the bank and somehow that highlights the mess they are in.
SFtBs @ 5:55 PM,
It seems there is a clear understanding that the boat should not be rocked and that has to be important.
Yet that situation can only be maintained by mutual support.
The “perceived split” doesn’t matter, if there was any doubt that all is sweetness and light then the lead articles on CQN at the time of the second coming will leave us in no doubt – there is bad blood.
What has to happen is people have to be smart and professional. A respect built on that rather than personality clashes can be achieved then hopefully your prediction will come good.
Rangers F.C. died, the team that plays out of Ibrox now is there for business and political reasons.
Hail Hail
Reality is , we are a feeder club – us going to the CL is like motherwell, hibs, livi, etc arriving at CP.
Aberdeen 1-1 HT in Frankfurt.
Their equalizer was an excellent piece of opportunism and took the wind out of Frankfurt’s sails.
They’ll probably lose but worthy of the score so far – hope our bhoys were watching.
The huns have much to answer for IMO.

utterly ridiculous penalty for liverpool
dont like to beat the same drum all the time but the game is being ruined by penalty awards for nothing challenges and hand balls
Analysis is paralysis.
Good evening all from the Queens Park Cafe. Let those good times roll. You can never have enough of them. 👍
dons have lost 2 1
hate their fans but would have liked to have seen them get a result

Aye indeed. Another collection of filth obsessed by songs about child abuse. Scum.
There is some s@@@e talked about DD and PL on here. Celtic are a big fish in a small bowl. They are starved of decent revenue and have to box clever. I am a happy clapper and will always be. Keep the faith.
