The disappointment online and among supporters in general since Tuesday’s defeat in Rotterdam has been tangible. That’s an indication of just how hopeful we had become, despite extenuating circumstances and an away track record that should have prepared us for much worse.
Frustrations were shared by the squad, who know they let an opportunity slip. For me, a reversal was always on the cards. The game came too soon, with a mixture of players who made their debut just days before and ended with our seventh choice (arguably eighth) central defender stepping up.
We need games and results like that. There is little to learn from wins over Dundee; even the victory at Ibrox can only inform to an extent. You learn more from defeats in places like Rotterdam and Bodo than in a season of home Premiership games.
It should also ground you and me. When Celtic win just-so-many-trophies it becomes difficult not to re-orientate our expectations that the current era is normal. The CQN demographic suggests most of us have lived through the barren 90s and many of us were there during the 50s and early 60s, but even we get dragged into despair by the odd draw. What chance the kids?

I didn’t watch much of it but it looked to me like the fans were just happy to be there
D9 – Your wit is outstanding?
Even if I am a shareholder is it only shareholders that are allowed opinions.
Anyway the board have that sewn up as well.
I stand by mr liewell being a Liar if you think he is doing a great job then mores the fool you.
D :)
CELTIC40ME- you’re clearly happy with the continual European embarrassment, and a guy the Board loves and plays to, where will Celtic be in 10 years time? What have we done in Europe in the last 10 years? Enjoy…..
Celtic being successful in Europe might happen once more, then again it might not. You can either accept that or howl at the moon together with David, lucky and Bada. Supporting Celtic is never conditional. Sure, you can point out perceived failures and mistakes, but when you go down the road of blaming one man for our shortcomings, you really do have to wonder. If only Peter hadn’t turned his back in that wall, eh fellas?

some would say..
No doubt. Others would disagree, which isn’t the case with those two clubs who are just happy to be with the big guys
BRENDAN RODGERS has revealed he is already preparing to strengthen Celtic in the January transfer…
so after a defeat we mimic tavernier with the jam tomorrow stuff ?
CELTIC40ME on 21ST SEPTEMBER 2023 11:03 PM
To take things back to the leader Brighton seem to be a well run club who are happy with their lot
Expectations are pretty low compared to ours in a similar environment
Substitute Celtic for Brighton….
BETISQUICKNEWS in meltdown following the 2nd most sustainable club in Europe’s defeat at the hands of football’s most unsustainable enterprise.

given west hams exploits last season, i’d wager that a few brighton fans were dreaming of a wee run in europe…

I’m not happy with our record in Europe, we should do better, it’s a failure on the board’s part but overall Celtic have made me more happy than not over the last ten years, and in the last seven years in particular. I’m sorry that you can’t get a similar enjoyment out of it.
I’m happy to be a Celtic supporter and celebrate winning trebles, it’s better than being a Brighton or Bournemouth fan and celebrating nothing.
In ten years time we’ll most likely be able to look back on another decade of domestic dominance. I hope we’ll also have some European success, in that time we’ll see numerous new Board members, managers, players, bogeymen. I would hope we’ll all find people who’ll fit the bill

Here’ the point David, you call the man a liar. On what basis? Would you call the man a liar to his face or are you quite happy to do that on a football forum. So, if you are a shareholder, and you don’t have to be to be a shareholder to be a Celtic supporter, stand up at the next shareholders meeting and let it rip

5 way agreement ? emails ?
“And Smith must score…..”
Maybe not
Celtic Mac
“Burnley78 offered up the mystery scenario, and you dismissed the idea of increasing the SPFL to 18 teams (1.03pm). I put you both in the frame, but not necessarily for the same reasons.”
—————————–
Well, that gives me something to work with.
First, I actually agree with you that an 18 team league would give Celtic a better chance to blood some promising youngsters and to give the hard worked players a rest, but……..
For me, it would be like combining our league with the League of Ireland or the Cymru Premier. It would provide the middle and bottom clubs a more competitive challenge but it would do little for us or the Ibrox mob (as if we care)
It would also increase the risk of plastic pitches becoming more regular. We have Raith, Hamilton, Falkirk, QOTS, Clyde and Montrose as possible promoted clubs to add to the pitches at Killie and Livi and Airdrieonians were using one up to last year.
It would not change the crucial timing of Euro qualification or even CL Group stage which will still start before our teams have gelled and/or recovered from heavy pre-season training.
When a proposal gets analysed, you need to weigh up the benefits against the deficits. On balance, I can’t see it changing our stars sufficiently.
Our elite players need a more competitive environment. The level of the last two generations of Scottish footballers do not provide the level we require. We would raise our standards more by bringing in the EPL reserve teams.
You are right that my view offers no current legal alternative route. Maybe the Sportswashing Saudi League might break the current impasse and give us an opportunity to grab but I cannot offer that as a likelihood.
So, my main objection to an 18 team Scottish League over a 12 team league is that it would not have any beneficial effect for us.
Even the Belgian league, which has produced a Golden generation recently has not greatly improved, because most of that generation were snapped up by English, Italian, German and Spanish teams. That is the dynamic that needs to change- anything else is deckchair re-arranging.
Brentford and Brighton are very modern football clubs.
Small clubs with business models, new small grounds, slick marketing, milking the tv cash. The TV deals give life to small clubs with smart businessmen owners with an eye for an opportunity
This isn’t looking down on them, local clubs are just as part of the game as big ones, but they aren’t Celtic and never will be
“ A kick up the R’s “
Queens Park Rangers
Spikey,
I have no idea of what went on with the 5 way agreement, no concept of the context in which it was drafted, and can’t begin to imagine the pressure that all of Scottish football was under with the demise of the clan, but there has emerged an unhealthy preoccupation with one individual which I personally find distasteful. You might know more than I do, but for some to wheel this out, more than a decade later, as a reason for our shortcomings in Europe is wide of the mark
BOURNESOUPRECIPE on 21ST SEPTEMBER 2023 11:51 PM
Tony Fernandez at QPR chased the tv cash and burned through hundreds of millions of pounds.
He also lost a rookie manager to Sevco
CELTIC40ME
The QPR fans didn’t know who Michael Beale was when he was appointed and were non plussed when they ‘lost’ him 👍
Paul 67,
Re-orientating our expectations or contracting our ambition.
” The Celtic jersey doesn’t shrink”. Hmmmmmm.
The game did not come too soon for us, the date was fixed and you have to ask :-
” Was this a CL minded transfer window ” ?
Those of us who remembered BR and his un- Brendan like reincarnation with us know the answer.
It is not all gloom and doom however, we can and will improve and yes Paul 67, this time I believe we will learn lessons.
From a Celtic football supporters perspective the worst scenario is coming 4th in the CL group.
Brown trout of Europe before Christmas and watching ” lesser” teams progress in lower but nevertheless European competition.
Coming 4th in the CL is football failure but we still bank circa £24 m. I do worry that our board think that is success

Watched a wee bit of the hun game at work.
I know many huns are stupid, but extra stupid is the huns with the Culloden Union Flag.
Very poor taste . If you must why no stick Inverness, Nairn Ardersier on the apron.
Thick and obnoxious as f@ ck.
Good morning all from a dry but chilly garngad, Haggerston vastle awaits us for the Seppy weekend.
D9 dam right I woild call hom a loar to his face and its about him bare face lying saying he had never seen the 5 way agreement.
If a man in his position at Celtic – Our club lies to the support then he should not be anywhere near our club.
If you are fine with that then it says more about you than I.
D :)
Liar not loar but maybe he would get called that as well as a few other things face to face.
D :)
As our profits rise, our expectations should lower?
Some inverted logic there
I see on the BBC website this quote about the probaility of the Bennu asteroid hitting earth, they say:
“Nasa regards Bennu as the most dangerous rock in the Solar System. Its path through space gives it the highest probability of impacting Earth of any known asteroid. But don’t panic, the odds are very low – akin to tossing a coin and getting 11 heads in a row. ”
Havent Sevco got some 11 home draws in a row in the cup competitions which is the same odds . I think we should be worried!.
Apart from the first 15 minutes of the 2nd half ( I fell asleep), I watched the rest of the Huns game.
REAL BETIS ( in my opinion) were streets AHEAD of the Huns when it came down to ” Movement off the Ball and quick passing”.
Real Betis FAILED to score because their shooting wasnt too good ( although the Hun Goalie had to make two or three saves), and they were a bit guilty of over playing at times.
NONE of the above was SEVCO’s fault, however I fully expect REAL BETIS to be really keen to GUB the Huns in Spain ?
REAL BETIS are viewing last nights result as to ” leaving Points on the table”.
I would certainly agree with that view point………..then again maybe I am being BIASED….but I dont believe that I am.
The Hun support were VERY QUIET during spells in the game, as Real Betis kept possession quite well most of the time.
Who else are in that Hun Group ?

A simple ” YES or NO” will suffice.

Be in NO DOUBT D9COMEDY……….I KNOW DAVID66 very well for a few years now.
DAVID66 would NOT hesitate in calling Peter Lawwell ” A LIAR” face to face.
I would put good money on it….NAE PROBLEM !
BORIS JOHNSON….” There were NO PARTIES”…..
PETER LAWWELL…….” I NEVER saw the 5 WAY AGREEMENT”….
TWO LIARS or not ?
I reckon the Huns got VERY LUCKY last night.
Hopefully, REAL BETIS will make THEMS suffer in Spain.
WHO are the other Teams in the Huns Group ?
HH
Big Jimmy,
Sorry, I cannot give you a categorical yes or no, I simply don’t know. Happy to accept your guarantee that David 66 would call him a liar to his face. Still don’t understand what that has to do with our latest reversal in Europe
Good morning all from Govanhill.
