Celtic will play three familiar opponents in the Champions League group stage: Barcelona, Benfica and Spartak Moscow. We have a mixed recent record against Barcelona, eliminating them from the Uefa Cup in 2004, but finishing behind them in the Champions League group stage in the autumn of that year. Barca also knocked Celtic out of the Champions League in the round of 16 in 2008. The Camp Nou is the only ground Celtic have managed to avoid defeat on away Champions League duty.
Gordon Strachan’s Celtic eliminated Benfica from the Champions League group stage in 2007 and again in 2008. They also got the better of Aiden McGeady’s current team, Spartak Moscow , in the Champions League play-off round in 2007.
It is a difficult group for Celtic but each of their opponents will be wary of the Celtic.

If Ally and Charlie were properly hammered then it is even more bad publicity. It also calls into question their competence putting prospective hun ST buyers off.

Barca, Spartak and Benfica.
This is where lack of ambition and debt aversion gets you!!!!
Goodnight and goooooooodnight.
I know Tempelton’s grandfather who is a fine Celtic gentleman, the wee man is a Celtic supporter and I think he has ambitions beyond them. Would be a poor move for him on many fronts.
Ole Green just trampling all over transfer protocol.

Quick vote please guys!
Player of the month for August, choice of five…
A) Kris Commons
B) Victor Wanyama
C) Georgios Samaras
D) Fraser Forster
E) Charlie Mulgrew
==========================
Sammi, despite him looking like Charlie Manson for most of the month.
£84 CL Package for SB holders…..very well done, Board. …!! …… Anyone heard what the Investor Club SB holders is …..???
Happy with the draw,
My reasoning before was to draw sides we haven’t faced before, but we know about all these teams so maybe familiarity will be a blessing in disguise for us.
Besides, they will face a very different Celtic since our last appearance 4 years ago. Wanyama or Jarosik*, Forrest or Donati*? I know which I prefer…
Also I think we, alongside Dortmund, are the Pot 4 team that others wanted avoid. Let’s not be afraid, we’re there on merit.
4 from 6 against Benfica/Spartak and anything against Barça should see us through.

*might have played 4 or 5 years ago in CL, no time to look it up, so one for the statisticians ;-)

I hope Liverpool win 1.0 tonight with Webster scoring

Sorry, but I refuse to believe for one second that any CL club wanted to avoid us, which is more to do with where we play our football rather than who we are.
Let’s not kid ourselves . . . any Scottish club is regarded as an easy option in European competition.
Sad but true.
What a week, Champions League Qualifier, Champions League Group stage draw, Transfer deadline day, or Wednesday, Thursday and Friday to Sevco fans!
Anybody know what age you need to be to get the “concession” rate? 60 or 65?
Templeton will be cup tied if he joins Sevco…
well maybe not.. o))
Guys need a definite date quickly for the Barca away game…….
Don’t think I’ve been to an occasion as good as last night and the atmosphere was superb, a real feeling of homecoming.
After Celtic scored, and well into the second half, the players were playing under instruction not to chase goals, as the tie was won, and Celtic showed Neil Lennon’s tactical awareness.
Superiority of player fitness and physique over Helsingborgs merely brought the second goal when we pushed on again in the final quarter of the game.
Looking forward to transfer deadline day and two good signings at least, as the draw has been very unforgiving, but the smart ticket pricing, should sell out the ground for the games.
Centre back is priority number one, and a striker to rival Hooper and Watt.

See if Paul67 could get colours and pictures on this site I might find it easier.
Yes – agreed. I am getting sick of the fact that I let them wind me up – especially on such a great day when we’re in the CL draw. Maybe that’s their plan – it doesn’t matter what we do, how well we play, they’re still pulling strings.

UEFA Champions League ticket prices
By: Newsroom Staff on 30 Aug, 2012 19:20
THE Bhoys are back in the UEFA Champions League after landing a mouth-watering draw, with the likes of Messi, McGeady and Luisão set to grace the turf at Paradise.
Our old friends Barcelona, Eusebio’s Benfica and Spartak Moscow, who gave us a night of great drama in our 2008 qualifier, will provide the opposition for Neil Lennon’s young charges.
Celtic’s three home games are Benfica (September 19), Barcelona (November 7) and Spartak Moscow (December 5)
UEFA Champions League group-stage fixtures HERE
The big nights are back at Paradise and hopefully Celtic Park will be bursting at the seams. As a thank-you to season ticket holders for their backing this season, Celtic are delighted to announce that adult prices for the three-match packages will be just £84, with concessions costing £60.
This represents a significant reduction on our 2008/09 prices of £93 and £72 respectively.
Non-season ticket holders will be able to buy similar packages at £105 and £75 for adult and concession respectively, again reflecting a drop from the 2008/09 prices of £114 and £99.
Tickets will go on sale to season ticket holders from 9.30am on Saturday, assuming all match dates have been agreed. Sale dates for non-season ticket holders will be announced in due course. Watch the official Celtic website for further updates.
It’s not too late to guarantee your seat at Paradise for the entire campaign by buying your season ticket now.

I was merely responding to a couple of comments about how nobody wanted to face Celtic.
See Chris McLaughlin at Lennoxtown on BBC news tonight had his green and white striped tie on.
