Roll up, roll up, crap club

821

The Rangers International share prospectus contained references about league reconstruction possibly expediting the club’s ascent to the Scottish Premier League for the first time.  This was never on anyone else’s agenda and was merely the latest manifestation of the train of thought that Scottish football could not, and would not, consider life without ‘Rangers’ in the top flight, or perhaps one division below.  We can only hope that the company’s budgeting was not dependent on this aspiration.

Even the most ardent advocates of the belief structure that a ‘Rangers’ branded company is wanted and needed by the rest of the game must now accept ample evidence exists that their flat earth claims are folly.  For the record, Scottish football no more needs Celtic than it did Rangers, we are a lumbering albatross around their necks.

The Rangers chief executive, Charles Green, makes a valid point about the remainder of his club’s season, “If this [12-12-18 reconstruction] does happen, what is the point of us finishing the season?

“We might as well have a winter break from now until August. I can’t see any point in carrying on with meaningless matches.”

Crap club

As many have pointed out, his is the same purpose as the teams in each division who are free of relegation threats and already out of title/promotion contention – it’s called sport, but all teams in the SFL Third Division are effectively now playing for the joy of the game itself, which is pretty much what most of the do anyway.  Let’s hope Mr Green’s comments are not widely reported to those he is trying to sell tickets to.  It was astutely reported that Green has the makings of a PT Barnum about him, but rubbishing your own product is more Gerald Ratner than Barnum.

Roll up, roll up

By contrast, PT Lawwell’s comments on the proposed reorganisation, “To be fair, it is one of the very infrequent times when the greater good of the game has been taken into account”, could be taken straight from the consensus-builder’s manual.  It remains to be seen how best to serve the greater good, but any solution has to work for every club, not just one or two.

Delighted Terry Butcher is staying in the Highlands.  Great news for Inverness and the SPL.  I’m enjoying this season; more please.

    Correct on Hooper’s agent

He is trying to get an offer on the table from other clubs, as at present there isn’t one.

Quite simply, Norwich can’t afford him.

  2. Robin Bhoy

Agree , but sadly money dictates not ambition.

I would say the young Mr Hooper does indeed receive good service….unfortunately for us 50% of that service is towards his head…and we all very well know that young Mr Hooper is not exactly prolific at converting very much at all with his bonce……..Mr Jones on the other hand……

Robbie Keane was fortunate enough to play in one of the most creative Celtic teams of all time…hence the reason why he scored so many goals in so few appearances for the club.

    Do you understand now?

    Re Gary Hooper and others.

It is up to the club to ensure that a player feels he can maximise his potential at Celtic;that means in terms of trophies, profile and earnings.

Should he feel he can improve on that elsewhere-and that depends on how much importance he attaches to the various parts of the equation-then the club simply have to get as good a deal as we can.

I’m no fan of unsettled players at the club, and in the case of Hooper,Vic,etc,I wish them well, thank them for their efforts, and welcome the profit for John Park and Neil Lennon to spend wisely.

Too much money has been wasted over the years on bad buys, and on players leaving us for next-to-nothing to allow it to happen again.

BTW,smashing nightshift, lads. Great to see IZZY getting some good news! Well done to all concerned.

I think that you are mistaking Corporal Jones with that Welsh thing,Tom Jones?

  9. Let’s just say Norwich are genuinely interested but they’re the only ones right now. And let’s also say that Hooper is looking for a route to the bright lights of the middle of the EPL. Which is the quicker and more glamourous route? A minimum of 1 year (and more likely 18 months) at Norwich, or half a season and at least 2 good performances in the CL and Celtic.

He may be off this window but I doubt it would be Norwich.

There are games were GH gets 1 chance and

luckily for us he nets them.

You see…maybe this is just me but – when JF isny playing

we don’t look like a Celtic team. Not in the slightest.

For example – who in the midfield can beat a man and

run at the opposition defense ? Please don’t say

Paddy. Not today. K Commons could do it in his 1st season then

transformed himself into – the Mitchellin Man :o)

One wee suggestion…as a point of gratitude to all or, some of the clubs

who voted the the huns oot…why don’t we buy players who are home based ?

    Ryan Fraser Aberdeen ?

    Johnny Russell D/utd ?

    …for example….

Surely bringing those 2 players in wouldn’t have put at risk the £5+mill of

Celtic fans money that has been blown on the likes of….

    Miku ?

    Lassad ?

    Bangura ?

Ach well….after 42 years of active ly supporting the tic – what do I know ?

Norwich probably pay more money than us and also play against the likes of manutd, chelski, arsenal, man city and co, so they play their fair share of games against high standard sides

And while norwich wont play their home games in front of 60k fans they generally don’t play their away games in front of 6,000 fans either, like we do against the likes of St Mirren etc

But I do agree from a non financial perspective, looking at the fitba side only, very few guys leave us and go onto better things

    – > I don’t think your post deserved ridicule – there is definitely some truth in what you say. He is indeed a good athlete, and I agree that NL rates him highly. His scoring record has been poor at Stoke, and so he gets ridiculed on sites like this, but stoke are never going to score many goals in that league. I saw him play against us for Sunderland in a friendly, and he humiliated our defence (loovens, o’dea, fox and ????) with his physicality. It was actually embarassing watching the celtic players’ pathetic attempts to match up to him. In a league like the spl, with decent service, he would (as you suggest) score a lot of goals. He would give us another option too in terms of physicality, and aerial threat. I always smile when he is ridiculed on here, as A fairly poor sunderland team beat us relatively easily that day, yet Celtic fans think he is nowhere near good enough for us….

Is he a suitable replacement for Hooper though? probably not.
