Ronny will value having game on Friday night

816

Yesterday I caught myself moaning about potentially winning the league without playing a game (epitome of first world problems).  How quickly we forget the pain of the 90s.  Let’s bring the title home as soon as possible, no matter where we are or what we’re doing.  There could be people doing the Ronny Roar in shopping streets across Scotland on Saturday.

The one place Ronny will not be doing the Ronny Roar is out shopping, though.  This time of year managers’ weekends are fully booked: one day for the game, one day scouting at another game.  With a game on the Friday night Ronny will be able to take in games on Saturday and Sunday.  Scouting opportunities before the end of the season are limited, so he’ll value the extra day.

A year ago Hibs asked to allow their season ticket holders into a play-off game for free – there’s your rule.  The opportunity to deny another club the same has gone.  Faux indignation about not even asking permission doesn’t register with me.

Club sponsor Magners have offered us a pair of premium tickets to the Jock Stein Stand for Friday’s game.  All you need to do to win is send me an email with the name of the team we play in the SUBJECT line of your email.  Competition closes at 9pm tonight (Wednesday), so not a lot of time.

If you would like to do something enormously constructive while entering the competition, you could always donate £1 (or more if you like) to our Mary’s Meals school kitchen appeal, which you can do right here.  Many thanks.

Not entirely sure of the details-I’d have to check-but the previous Labour govt brought in various controls on agencies to stop exploitation like this.

Things like holiday pay based on hours worked, contracts, etc.

Zero-hour contracts are a result of that. They hammered the agencies-correctly-but missed the lawyers.

I think what they did was ensure if you’d been at 1 place for a period of time (13 weeks?), there was an onus to make the role permanent. Cue lots of 12 week postings.

As a temp thugh you always accept that at the end of the period you were employed untl be it 12 weeks or 1, you don’t know what’s happening. You also know that the period might end sooner.

It works for some people though.

  9. So the Sun backs the Tories and the SNP – of course this is a distinction without a difference.

The SNP craves anothet Tory government to allow them to play their victim card, over and over again.

The same SNP that has voted with the Tories three times more than Labour have ever done – the same SNP (The Tartan Tories & proud to be called that) that when they last held the balance of power at Westminster, voted down a Labour government in favour of Maggie Thatcher – the same SNP who formed a pact with the Tories in order to rule at Holyrood.

The SNP, who in all their 80 years in existence, has NEVER produced a policy and/or a proposal specific to the working class and poorest in our country.

Their new ‘johnny come lately’ brainwashed converts turn their backs on Labour, the only party EVER to do anything for the poor and working class – these misguided converts could not live without the Welfare State, NHS, Holiday Pay, Sick Pay, Disability Allowance, State Pension, Maternity Pay, Pension Credit, Working Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, Income Support, Child Benefit, Housing Benefit, Council Tax Benefit and the Minimum Wage – ALL put on the statute by LABOUR.

Nationalism has delivered NOTHING and will deliver NOTHING, except turn citizen against citizen, neighbour against neighbour, encourage disgusting and abhorent abuse against the old in our society, and split families with acrimony and strife,

The anti-politics brigade within our society, some who have never voted in their puff, many, who over the past year have crawled out of their ‘poll tax evading boltholes’ to support the SNP and join the rabbles of Sheridan and Clerkin, will cause havoc in our country and when they do, they will run away and hide like they always do, and the rest of us will have to clean up their mess and subsidise them, as we ALWAYS do.

It does work for some people, but they’re in a minority. The more people try to change things for the better, the more unscrupulous employers drive a coach and horses through it.

All of whom are salaried,of course.

About ten years ago,my company introduced 18-hour contracts for all new employees. Unbeknown to me,but why should they tell me?

I found out about it in a chance conversation when I met a colleague,office-based,in the pub on a weekday. And that her holiday pay while off was that 18 hours.

I spoke to my MD the following day. He was appalled,he genuinely did not know!

Result, all contracts based on expected hours to be worked and back-pay for all workers affected. HR got off with it as they were working within head office remit.

    I miss that MD…

You ever thought that it might be sanctimonious nonsense like that which is making non-voters vote SNP. As for New Labour doing anything for the working class. More nonsense.

By the way. I won’t be voting for either.

I agree with the vast majority of the above. Very little argument from me.

I despise the tories, never hidden it. Pretty much the same wi the SNP.

I think most people voting SNP understand the consequences, that it makes a tory-led govt more likely. They’re not stupid, even though I disagree with them. It is for them a vote for someone who gives them belief and a voice.

    Their call. That’s democracy.

Have to disagree on your statement, most people voting SNP will be doing the country a huge disservice in possibly inflicting another Tory government.

As a Scot living in England I am horrified that Nicola Sturgeon and her ilk think we need her party. We have seen what previous Labour governments have done to improve the normal working man’s life and how easily a Tory government can destroy that.

I fear for Scotland if another Tory government is voted in next Thursday and for myself I will blame the Scottish voters who have been duped by promises that we all know the SNP can’t keep.

SNP been in power for near 8 years, is Scotland some kind of socialist nirvannah yet under them?

  25. Mr Pastry rewriting history, I see.

Jim Callaghan’s government (which in 1974 had only a three-seat majority) had been reduced to a minority of 15 (309 Labour, 324 opposition, one vacant seat and the Speaker). Perhaps he is unaware that all 13 (former Lib/Lab pact) Liberal MPs and eight Northern Ireland Unionists voted with the Conservatives and that Labour’s deputy chief whip Walter Harrison allowed the Conservatives to break the normal “pairing” conventions and permitted them to have an additional vote. This was crucial as Margaret Thatcher’s no confidence motion was carried by this single vote.

He also does not mention the no confidence vote occurred because Labour MP George Cunningham had introduced the controversial 40 per cent rule and led another 34 Labour MPs in voting with the Tories against his party’s own manifesto commitment, thus scuppering the Scottish Assembly.

    *****

Of course, if the Labour Party had done anything of note in the last 40 years the SNP wouldn’t be in the position they are in now.
