Ronny’s luxury denied to his predecessors

521

I remember writing with anticipation 10 years ago as many of Martin O’Neill’s benchwarmers came to the end of their contracts.  Martin was not a squad rotator, so those not entrusted with his confidence found themselves on the bench or in the stand on match day, there was little scope to play your way back into the squad, and the wages spent unproductively inhibited our chances of bringing in fresh talent.

Ronny Deila spoke to the media on Friday about the same issue, moving on those who are already well out of the picture, as well as some who played their part last season but who are unlikely to see much in the way of game time in the season ahead.

There’s going to be a bit of churn in the squad, we’re still likely to add three or four players, but it’s been 20 years since a Celtic manager’s talked about creating space in the squad for youth players to fill.  This isn’t a criticism of the managers we’ve had since then, more a reflection of the pressure they worked under.

Tommy Burns had to drive us from mid-table mediocrity to genuine contenders.  Wim, Dr Jo and John Barnes weren’t here long enough to concern themselves about development, which Martin made it clear from day one that his interest extended only as far as the first team squad.

I doubt any Celtic manager worked under the intensity Gordon Strachan experienced during his four years.  Every point dropped delivered a greater trauma than at any time I can remember.  Neil Lennon managed through the transition, from competing head-to-head with three-in-a-row winners Rangers, to getting used to life as the last surviving superpower.

This is Ronny’s luxury.  It doesn’t matter if we win the league by a record tally, or match the defensive records created in each of the last two seasons.  Better to lose more games while giving a chance to young talent, than ask hoary pros to grind through the same gears one more time.

Now that we are no longer listed on any exchange, there is no legal requirement to provide transparency. The board will not answer your questions. However the responses that you desire are available:

    1. The only thing you can be sure of is that King did not loan one rand to our club.

Taylor & Letham are unlikely to be major contributors as neither have the liquidity to offer soft loans until December. Note that The Letham Facility charged 15% interest, which suggests that he arranged an overdraft to provide this much needed loan. Now that RIFC are no longer an LSE AIM club and every asset is secured by a creditor, this overdraft will almost certainly no longer be available. Park is the only board member. It’s his loans that are keeping the lights on. These loans will have increased to pay payroll in June and July.

    2. Llambias & Leach received £150,000 and £140,000 respectively, with a similar amount in expenses. Assume that Murray & Gilligan are similarly rewarded despite no CEO or FD experience. All King’s expenses (he flies first class and stays in 5 star hotels in London) are paid by RIFC.

    3. Blue Pitch & Margarita are not important. I suspect that the principals in these organisations are connected in some way to an individual who is avoiding extradition to Indonesia. They are not active investors.

    4. The perilous state of the current P&L will not be revealed until RIFC’s accounts are published some time later in July.

    5. I have no doubt whatsoever that Murray attempted to contact Sarver during his NARSA trip. This meeting did not occur. Both Murray & King attempted to arrange the second tranche of £5M from Sports Direct, with no success.

Since no legal action has been initiated by SD, there can be little doubt that they will charge interest on the £5M loan. This will be paid from RIFC’s 25% share of profits and dividends in Rangers Retail. Since default we should assume that all merchandising revenue reverts to Sports Direct and will continue to do so until such time as the loan and interest is repaid. In addition, any surplus stock will result in payments from RIFC to SD, as I specified in another post.

This new shyster board are running on loans, which are due for repayment in December. By my estimates a minimum of an additional £2M will be required during the close season. There will be no capital outlay on any players and no signing on fees. The undisclosed fee for Kiernan could have been a nominal £1 as he had little market value since he failed his medical after a two year loan to Birmingham City. Derek Johnstone’s insistence that it was £200,000 would have been a Level 5 spin. The failure to sign Eustace is instructive. Mark Warburton did not work with Eustace at Watford. There is every possibility that he he did with his latest signing when he was in charge of the under 10s at Watford. The significance of the fact that this young lad ended up playing in the 12th league of English football, and then released, should not be lost on anyone.

I will not criticise Warburton & Weir in the forthcoming season as they are operating under the most difficult circumstances due to the lies of our underfunded shyster board.

Neil McCann has predicted that we will win promotion in a canter. Is he not aware of the restrictions on W&W as they attempt to build a squad?

An update on Reece Warbara. There is no suggestion at present that he at any time worked with Mark Warburton. One of his former colleagues at Doncaster, who play in the ninth tier of the Midland League, has compared Reece, who has been released, as similar in style to Alves. Is every article being published in Scotland being written by James Traynor? Only an experienced spinmeister could equivocate failure at Doncaster with the world renowned full back at Barcelona. Given the spin, we should assume that Reece will soon be our latest out of contract acquisition. Even the most ardent King acolyte must see the pattern here and the singular lack of a transfer budget. Surely even they can see through the Alves spin?

You would think that with Dani Alves getting on a bit, that Barca would have swooped for this ready made and seamless replacement.

Maybe they did but couldnae compete……….>))

  20. Can only agree with Tallybhoy, too damn hot. We’ve only had around 4 days rain since the start of the year in West Liguria. Yesterday I had my ‘Jean de Florette’ moment, when I turned on the tap to water the trees, and nothing came out. Too much demand. Today the water supply is recovering, just, and so am I. We need a Dani Alves type water supply here.

I have great sympathy with Greece. Yes they have screwed up, but as Keynes showed, you’re better looking forward, not back, even if there is some current cost. Nevertheless, the Greek government have played a bad hand badly, and now it seems personal, which is a disaster in politics. But the Greece situation will be resolved before The Rangers situation. Rangers will have several more financial crises to come.
