Meanwhile listen to the new CQN Podcast below, it really is worth taking the time.

This edition features a hard hitting introduction from Paul Dykes on the cheating and also a look back at The Celts for Change Years, which will remind you where we were as a football club in the nineties.

CULTSBHOY SAYS HAIL HAIL TO HECTOR AND BRENDAN on 2ND AUGUST 2017 10:11 PM

What does tonight mean money wise?

If we win Play Off round, then about £30m as last year.

If we lose Play Off round we go directly into Europa League groups – maybe about £10m?

    re: the Legia tifo

I recognize that it probably does run afoul of UEFA rules on political banners (although I will admit that I haven’t checked the wording)… but, as someone said, it is true, and really, how can you penaiize someone for speaking out against the Nazis?!

MIT, in much the same way as you can penalise someone for speaking out against the subjugation of the Palestinian people.

Not sure which , but even if it is the later and they care too much

their message is probably alienating many potential supporters

I’m not saying the message doesn’t have merit .. just not at a football game

Anyway………… the hoops won and our supporters looked like they were having a great time …. eventually

    BR brilliant on the radio

I think BR is getting fed up with their shoite as well

Bedtime, looking forward to Fridays knockout draw…..

i know it’s a 5/1 shot but Beer Sheva seems to be a cert for me

  6. Playing these games so early – particularly against a Scandi team – does us no favours. They are much much sharper every time.

But overall that was a controlled, comfortable away performance. Nothing like the bombscare chaos of Euro away ties we’ve seen over the years.

Best players I thought were: Tierney, Jozo, Brown, and Griff…

Out of sorts: Armstrong, Hayes. Sinclair – though phenomenal workrate.

    Curates egg: Jamesie

Craig Gordon needs to work on his kicking.

Euro football (of some sort) now guaranteed to Christmas. Another season when our financial advantage over Sevco accelerates. Hopefully we will be fully up to speed for the final qualifier.

Just in fae my local. We were dancing on the streets of Dalmuir at full time. Huge result to lift our spirits. Magic.

  8. If I were German I would have found the Legia tifo provocative and offensive. For how long must today’s Germans apologise for the sins of their great-grandparents?

  9. I would like to avoid Hapoel because of the heat and Astana because of the distance, heat and plastic pitch. Maybe Croatia too because of the heat…

Is Azerbaijan hot at this time of year too?

Sorry to disagree but I am certain that Rob McLean does not have an anti Celtic bone in his body.

There are others in his family who are fanatical Celtic fans I believe.

Indeed at times one at least has to be calmed down such is the level of exuberance.

  11. THE EXILED TIM on 2ND AUGUST 2017 10:21 PM

We are through and that’s all that matters, we were up against a stuffy but well organised team well into their season, and we had to do t with a few serious injuries, so better that it looked in reality.

Games are in two and three weeks, a CB desperado needed.

We do indeed.Dont know if there is anything in the Caulker story.Would need to be quick to get him bedded in.

    Jozo was excellent tonight.

  12. Magnificentseven 10.23, well said, he was excellent. Kept things simple. Well worth his place.

while I suspect that you and I would probably largely agree on the middle east issues , honestly, I dont think there is equivalency here …. the middle eastern thing is more nuanced, while nazis were 100% bad … no debate, no nuance ….

it will be interesting to see how UEFA handle this one ..

I worked in Baku for 6 weeks during June/July 2 years ago and it was hotter than hell!

Sitting outside the boozer at 2:00AM and it was still high 20’s so I’d avoid Qarabag.

I would be happiest with Slavia Praha or Rijeka to be honest!

  17. Very professional performance. Was getting a bit nervous the longer the game went but once wee JF scored – was confident we would see it out.

Roll on Friday – looks like we will be heading for the back-of-beyonski!

  18. Well done, the Hoops. They ate halfway through their season, and ours is yet to start.Hreat subs from Brendan.

  19. Slavia Prague have the lowest co-efficient, are the easiest for travel, their league only started last week, we played them a couple of weeks ago so know what they’re like and have played in their stadium. Bit of a no brained for me.

  20. Fuk sakes…..we just won away in a CL Qualifier…..and there’s talk of a tifo……that how many of us never saw?….Level 5 bullshit? ;-))

  21. Brogan Rogan Trevino and Hogan on

I think the Legia Tifo was a shocker.

We know the history of Poland during the war and what the invading Germans did in Poland.

While I am never for forgetting (God forbid we ever do) I really do question such a banner or tifo at a football match.

By the way, earlier in the year I was speaking to an old work colleague in London and he was able to tell me that he was working on behalf of Legia and helping them to raise advance money on season ticket sales.

I suspect that going out of the Champions League will be a big financial blow to them because if they got the kind of money they were looking for they will be paying a pretty penny in interest for the rest of the season and as such, they could do with every penny.

Today in Slovakia it was nearly 40 degrees.

Praha will follow similar lines but last week it was only 26 or 27.

The weather here can be extremely hot or rainy in the summer.

  23. Turkeybhoy

Erik looked a bad one, ligaments take a while to heal, no idea how far Boyata is from returning, but I would rather not go into the qualifiers without a recognised CB, yer man Caulker is a few weeks away by all accounts, and QPR want to keep him so it’s not looking promising

We have to have faith in Brendan and his team to sort it.

  25. No easy ties now.

    But Slavia looks the best.

Brendan adapting well to life in Scotland.

  27. Turkeybhoy

Funnily enough I switched on SSN to see if they mentioned our result. I was able to rewind the programme and they did give a quick report on it a few minutes after the game. No sleekit comments either from them which was a surprise

  28. I hope we get Prague, for distance etc etc..

32 degrees in central Europe today with about 1000% humidity, our boys are pros a wee bit of heat will do them good to forget the Scottish summer:))

  29. BRTH,

    Seriously…..Poles v Poles tifo?

Imagine a football club…..that didn’t hav some wankers atached ;-))

    H.H.

  30. Whilst UEFA are complete hypocrites when it comes to banners, I can actually see their reasoning on a political ban.

Europe is a continent scarred by centuries of war and division. Many divisions and resentments bubble away underneath the surface today. There is conceivably a grudge in every single tie (especially if you’re playing a German or Russian team…)

Can you let everyone vent their age-old nationalist grievances, without the whole thing descending into a bad tempered cultural war?

  31. BIG-CUP-WINNERS on

    Happy happy happy. !

Struggling to recall a more composed Celtic away match.

Apart from 45-50 minutes they seldom put a passage of play together.

After we scored the team purred: close control, passing, movement. They just couldn’t get the ball for most of the first half, that feature of Brendan’s tenure is seldom commented on . They must’ve been knackered both physically, after their chasing, and mentally after Jamesie’s wonderful strike.

    Well done the Celtic.
