Sanctimonious nonsense about Celtic fans from ex-Ranger

493

I’ve read sanctimonious nonsense about how Celtic fans are enjoying these times, on how they should feel instead, and on how they will feel, one day.  I’ve also read what utterings our chief executive and manager should limit themselves to.

Our manager and directors have so far said very little on the subject of Rangers, only responding to direct questions or when you, the Celtic fans, were brought into the debate, without reference to any of us, by the First Minister.  Their response to Mr Salmond brought a swift and appropriate retraction.

It concerns me greatly that Scottish Premier League championships could have been won by a team playing improperly registered football players.  It would concern me even more if my concerns, your concerns, were not shared by the people charged with speaking on our behalf.  It is the responsibility of Neil Lennon and Peter Lawwell to leave no Celtic supporter in any doubt that they will vigorously pursue our supporters’ historical and future interests.

Mark Hateley’s piece on today’s Daily Record betrays a lot of hurt.  He concedes this season’s title to Celtic, which he regards as “tainted”.

As someone suggested in the CQN comments section this week, “We don’t need your stinkin’ 10 point penalty”….. we have another 10 point lead in reserve.

Hately suggests you should have the “good grace” to move on as his club “attempts to battle for its very existence”, adding, “There is no need for the likes of Lennon and Peter Lawwell to continue to sink the boot in”.

We will move on once justice has been done and is seen to be done.  Anyone who suggests otherwise, that somehow justice, the maintenance of ethical standards in the game, or even legality, are not things football fans, managers or directors should concern themselves with, has perhaps headed too many footballs in his time.

The coup-de-grace from Hateley was “So let Celtic get on with celebrating their title – a title they somehow failed to win throughout the last three years of financial troubles”.  Does anyone believe Rangers would have won three leagues had they paid their tax instead of singing Jelavic, Lafferty, Davis, Edu, Naismith or Bougherra?

I think this guy is missing the point. If the First Tier Tribunal report confirms already-made allegations that Rangers improperly registered football players, this bling that Hateley is flashing in your face is ill-gotten.

The Celtic manager, directors and support, together with most others in Scottish football, have to ensure that Fifa rules on the registration of football players is not subverted.

I would love nothing more. I understand that this period might have bee Murry just throwing his money about, helped by the lack of european footy for English clubs. One he got a taste for it though he couldn’t stop – and see how it ended up.

Imagine it though – i would make them all walk up to the door of parkhead and had the medals over in front of all the world.

  3. Whyte will be this generations Lord Lucan… :0)

Rangers chairman Craig Whyte is believed to have gone into hiding just as his football club hovers on the brink of collapse.

Under-fire Whyte, 40, is said to have gone abroad while Rangers struggles with the threat of running of money. It went into administration on 14 February.

Fans have protested at Rangers’ Ibrox stadium in Glasgow and at Whyte’s home in Grantown in the Highlands about the club’s mismanagement of taxes.

In a statement before he disappeared, Whyte said: “Like other Rangers fans, I don’t do walking away.”

The Mirror reported that sources claimed Whyte could be in Costa Rica or Morocco.

Rangers were forced into administration over an unpaid tax bill of £9m. BBC Scotland later reported that the tax owed to HMRC was more than £13m and may rise to £15m by the end of February.

How poignant that the team assembled that could not be afforded and began their demise will see them out.

It is also the midweek after the Celtic game and I predict the pitch to be taken at full time as thousands of souvenir hunters rip the place up.

  8. Paul67 – Nicely put as always. You really do have a great way of expressing what I am sure the majority of Celtic fans feel. In particular the last 3 seasons according to Britney et al are not tainted because they were not EBT years – conveniently overlooking the fact that the tax debt was ignored.

Can I ask though, are we, is anyone, certain that the regestering of players incorrectly (2 contracts) is as big a deal with the SFA as it is with UEFA.

Are the SFA not likley to simply dismiss it as a technicality of no real importance?

Anyone think the Rangers – AC Milan charity match will be a grand farewell occasion?

    pppppppppppp

I remeber in the 80s when American police forces would send out tickets to Culture Club concerts to people who were on warrants. these tickets were issued as ‘prizes’. When the schmucks turned up they would be arrested.

So all the stars from yesteryear have been invited back to dear ol’ blighty for a charidee event?

    Coincidence? You decide!

  23. I think one of the teams mentioned will be removed from the list. European League here we come…

The European Clubs Association (ECA) say recent discussions with the world governing body have been “disappointing” and that they have turned down an invitation from FIFA to attend a summit on the calendar in Zurich on March 5.

ECA spokesman Marc Schmidgall said: “We have had discussions with UEFA and we are close to finding a final agreement but talks with FIFA have been disappointing and we have decided not to attend FIFA meetings until further notice.”

The ECA is made up of 201 clubs including Manchester United, Chelsea, Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal, Aston Villa, Everton, Fulham, Newcastle, Tottenham, Celtic, Rangers, Hearts and Aberdeen.

In September, the ECA called for the number of internationals a season to be slashed from 12 to six. Manchester United chief executive David Gill, an ECA board member, said last year the clubs were especially keen to get rid of international friendly dates in June and August.

He said: “In an ideal world, we’ve been talking about six double-dates over the two-year period.

“It’s a reduction but still gives the right balance to the requirements of the national teams and what the clubs want.”

ECA president Karl-Heinz Rummenigge – who is also the Bayern Munich chief executive – has said claimed clubs are sick and tired of losing players for “nonsense” fixtures.

The ECA also want FIFA to take out insurance to pay for the salaries of players injured on international duty.
