SFA corporate governance questions

987

Do you like our new lightweight template?  There’s a lot less green and tons more whyte.  Like it or not, the whyte template will be here for a wee while, so try to enjoy it.

Ticket arrangements for our game at Ibrox next month were always going to be tasty.  With rumour that Rangers were heading for administration, Celtic refused to forward their rivals tickets for the game on 28 December on credit, demanding payment in advance.  Rangers found the money after a failed appeal to the better nature of the Celtic board.  This proved to be a wise move as only a few weeks later Rangers were in administration leaving a trail of unpaid debts to other clubs in their wake, but an awkward situation was likely to follow with Rangers (in administration) looking to reciprocate with payment terms.

Celtic are good for the credit, but if they pay for tickets, what’s the chance Rangers will survive long enough to fulfil the fixture?

None of us are in a position to tell, but Celtic cannot sell tickets to their own supporters in the chance that Rangers will not honour them.  If Rangers are still in business, I expect a busy few days leading up to the fixture as cash and tickets are transferred.

And to think we’ve listened to all the ‘Old Firm conspiracy’ theories all these years….. didn’t turn out that way after all.

Really pleased to see STV picked up on our story of last week on the potential improper registration of players and managed to get an anonymous quote from the SFA suggesting “that if conclusive evidence can be produced, the Scottish FA could launch a wider investigation into the conduct of the club”.

“Could”!  This story has now been reported by several mainstream media outlets.  It looks like the SFA will have to be dragged into examining this by Uefa.  Embarrassingly, they are likely to conclude an inquiry into Rangers next week without reference to the 10,000lb gorilla (as No Surrender Johnston would say) in the room.

There are now serious questions of corporate governance at the association, something the chief exec was keen to avoid. If the SFA do initiate an inquiry into the multiple contract allegation, they should start by asking some of the guys who have arrived at Ibrox from continental Europe. I hear Joachim Bjorklund, a decent defender who signed his only Rangers contract in 1996, is still working in the game.

    San Diego Bhoy,

looks like my trip to the Celtic convention has been put on hold, I’ve been gently persuaded that there are more important and responsible things I can do with my hard earned :o)

So now I’ve done with Scottish football, I will need to turn my attention on 21-12-2012 to prevent the end of the world, to stand any chance of making it next year, cheers to the ghuy’s who gave me the information to let me at least dream for a short time.

    Hail Hail

Is there any substance to this story? Surely they had ginger bottles in the bus?

  4. Methinks the name of Bjorklund will become prominent in the near future. Heads up to us, Paul?

Haill hail Paul, haven’t read a lot of previous comments but that was/is a very long day! Welcome back!

Been a bit paranoid as to why i couldn’t access the site all day.

I started thinking that the `establishment’ had done a Bobby Ewing/Dallas type moment whereby the h*ns in admin were just a dream sequence and i’d come back on here and find that we were a few points ahead in the league and everything is rosy down poundland way!

Good to see that it is not so ;-)

Great news mate! I’ll see you there. Haven’t had any word back from those who initially expressed interest, so not going to commit to any dinner table plans.

  7. Like the new look, it doesn’t look so obvious that I’m having a quick read at work….

On another more enjoyable topic – you often read about there being a maths equation for all sorts weird and wonderful things, the perfect sandwich, the perfect way to make a cup of tea etc.

Can any maths wizzkids give us an equation for the death of Rangers?

Welcome back! News of a major Bank (Barclays?) getting a good kicking from the Treasury (for “aggressive tax avoidance) will not be good news for either Rangers or for David Murray. Retrospective too! Wonder if Alex Salmond has any comment on that?

Surely all the facts and elements of a situation are required before an equation can be formulated, and I for one do not think we’ve seen the half of this story yet!

    Good Evening,

Juat a brief note to say that thanks in big part to a magnificent anonymous donation of £10,000 from a CQN’er this morning, Vanessa Riddle has reached her target of £500,000 in just 50 days.

That is truly astonishing. There is an awful lot I want to sat about this and will post some stats and matters for thought later.

However, today I went through the donations page and the number of CQN’ers donating is astonishing.

The Celtic support as a whole played a truly remarkable part in this but for now can I just say Thanks… and that I am very VERY proud to be a Celt.

Please raise a glass to all those who messaged, tweeted, organised, donated and just did the most amazing things.

Special HUGE shout to Taggsy and to Paul67 without whose site the seemingly impossible might still be regarded as just that.
