SFA McGlennan resigns, Celtic season tickets Sold Out

171

SFA Compliance Officer, Tony McGlennan, has tendered his resignation, just weeks after issuing a Notice of Complaint over (Oldco) Rangers over their application for a Uefa licence for season 2011-12.  The issue relates to Rangers failure to pay tax relating to the Discounted Options Scheme, active during Sir David Murray’s  reign.  Murray ditched this scheme in 2002 when he plunged the club headfirst in the EBT mess which ultimately led to liquidation.

Craig Whyte’s trial last year at Glasgow High Court heard evidence which contradicted the club’s submission to the SFA in 2011.  McGlennan investigated and recommended the SFA act.  An independent panel will now have the task of deciding what action to take.  Newco Rangers are on the hook for Oldco’s football punishments, as determined by the Five Way Agreement between the SFA, Scottish Premier League, Scottish Football League, Rangers and Sevco (now Newco Rangers).

The investigation into Rangers 2011 submission took eight months and was not published until the new SFA chief exec, Ian Maxwell, was in-situ.  The SFA still work in the shadow of Ally McCoist’s “Who are these people?” veil, so it may be wise for McGlennan to move on, before a suitable punishment for misrepresentation on an application to gain access to a competition worth tens of millions is declared.  Celtic were denied a place in the 2011 Champions League qualification competition due to Rangers’ submission, an issue which led to the Res 12 campaign.

It is quite unbelievable that the season ticket Sold Out notices went up at the Celtic ticket office today.  53,000 season tickets to see 8-in-a-row, with a waiting list for those wanting to see our 9-in-a-row record matched.  While Champions League money is the salt on our chips, the club’s long-term financial stability is underpinned by season ticket sales.  The paying public is the most important revenue stream at Celtic.  These figures also underpin merchandising and commercial deals.

Well done to all season ticket holders!

  1. I saw Celterella’s comment about bigots and pensioners. I qualify on one count.

BMCUWP’s was at a session in Belfast last Friday night. There were half and half Protestant/Catholic musicians. It gets better. I’m teaching the flute player some marches for his Orange band. Not all Orangemen are Huns. Was it you who made a comment about Proddy dogs recently? I’ve news for you. You can’t be a Republican and a bigot.

The Celtic men and women I met at the weekend are certainly nothing like your description.

If there is such a thing as a Green hun——-you’re it.

    Take yourself off.

  3. McGlennan carried out the investigation and issued the Complaints. His work is done in that respect. The JDPT will take it from here.

The timing of the announcement is most interesting. Not only is he leaving but it seems he wants it to be public knowledge, two weeks before the hearing. The smart money says he’s getting out of dodge before ‘it’ hits the fan.

  6. We were told to expect more people to be leaving the SFA. The problem is how to read this resignation.

    It could be

    1. He is scared of the fullout from the angry Sevco fans

    2. He has been conflicted or outed by King

3.He has been pushed out by the new broom

    4. He feels his recommendations have been fudged

    5. He has had a better offer

He has reported and as a result Rangers have to answer 2 charges. So I feel at this stage for him its either he has been threatened or that his recommendations are being watered down.

“…..as determined by the five way agreement…..”. Maybe you would care to publish which version of said agreement that you are referring to Paul, and as such which penalties will apply. The version that I have seen specified the penalties, in that they were included in the “agreement”, but I’m guessing that is not the version you are referring to.

Well its the close season and as we all know in Scotland, with no fiba to go to, its now that the young and athletic take up the substitute sport of procreation.

  9. Raymac, great to meet you at the weekend. Interesting scenario re flute players and marches. Hope springs eternal. HH

  10. Auldheid has said, and I agree, that to nurture a grievance is to hurt one self spititually. It eats from within. That is not to say anything Sevco have ever done has been for anyone’s benefit but their own. They are a despicable shower.

I think we will get justice eventually, but to make their grandchildren Celtic supporters we must lead by example.

Denis is known to Celtic, apparently there is a reason he hasn’t made it over yet, not sure what it is. He’s been to see us in Astana.

  12. Given McGlennan’s resignation and the history of how the SFA operate, this most likely will either be a good thing for Sevco or a very good thing. Should we expect anything different?

  15. With the resignation of the CO for whatever reason, surely Sevco for that is who they are , are entitled to say we have not been granted any euro licence as at that time we did not exist, this solves the whole thing and could be closed as they are a new club and have only a history from 2012, this will probable require UEFA and if Maxwell has sense he will involve them, however those who were responsible for this mess on governing bodies and within a club that is now liquidated should have no role in any football body in the future, none not even after a time bar.

As much as I like you lot, the mental image of any of the old CQN geezers wrestling in the mud surely has to merit a yellow card.

And forget the CQN geezers, the famed child on the donkey must look like Sancho Panza by now.

  17. When Regan and Doncaster were appointed I thought ‘good’. Untainted and fresh should result in charge. What we got was more of the same. Regan gone, McKinley going. But Dickson in, Tim board member forced out. We need to find out the mettle of the new CEO. Not impressed by his initial take which sounds like ‘move on’ agenda.

Now we have McGlennan off. Would he not have been lead prosecutor fully versed in the data and arguements?

So who leads the case to the panel now? It is a weakening of an already manufactured position.

That does not fill me with hope that either this case or change will be prosecuted well at all.

If this goes backwards then reform will be pushed away again.

I can only conclude that honest clubs have no appetite for change or integrity.

    ======

    Yes.

  19. The most likely interpretation I would put on McGlennans resignation in a couple of months is his resentment at having to spend 8 months on a task that at most should have taken month to decide on and a month to put the evidence together on.

Too many folk at Hampden and Ibrox running interference in what is supposed to be an independent process.

They shouldn’t bring a new Compliance Officer in they should put the work out to tender, UK wide, and find a firm of lawyers perhaps from England or working with the FA in a similar role to provide the service.

    All Huns are Huns. Simple.

Religion doesn’t come into it. The fact they supported the died Huns and now the born again Huns covers it. It’s just acoincidence that most orangemen are Huns, albeit sectarian bigoted Huns because the in the main support the Huns.

    Does it get anymore simple.

McGlennan gets out of Dodge, hard on the heels of Regan, while Dave King morphs into a screaming testosterone Pantomime queen, and a non-executive SFA director becomes collateral damage for a mild jibe made 12 years ago.

I admire your faith that justice will prevail, but mi amigo, how many times has it been said they are bang to rights, jeezo, half of the sfa and most of the hun board should be in jail, yet they are still in situ scamming the honest supporter.

I won’t be holding my breath for any form of justice cos it’s no gonna happen :-(
