Slavia coach and players delighted at prospect of facing Celtic

252

Slavia Prague manager and players were delighted with yesterday’s Champions League qualifier draw.  Boss Jindrich Trpisovsky, said:

“If Celtic advance [against Cluj], which I hope they do, I will be very satisfied.

“Of the four likely teams we could face, I really wanted Celtic.  From a sporting perspective, Copenhagen was the most acceptable draw, but I had Celtic in first place, because it is Scotland, a great atmosphere.”

Captain, Milan Skoda, added: “I am happy with the lottery for the first time in my life.  I’m glad to get Celtic or Cluj.  I know these will be tough matches, whether we get one or the other, but in the third qualifier double header, I believe in Celtic.

“I don’t know if it is better for the first leg to be away from home but it paid off to start at home a few times in the past.”

Right back, Vladimir Coufal, said: “The draw was fantastic for me, a lot of us wanted Celtic.

“We would play in the UK again.  Unfortunately, I missed the game against Chelsea [last season].  If Celtic progress, it would be fantastic.

“There will be something unbelievable in Celtic Park, one of the best atmosphere in the world.  That would be a holiday for all.  So we will definitely be cheering for Celtic. I believe in them more than Cluj, even though I don’t know what to expect from Cluj.”

“We will try to get good result in the away leg and afterwards we will have a full stadium at home. If we advance to the Champions League, it will be something fantastic to celebrate with our fans. I think we definitely have a chance to advance, like Ajax.”

This is all very respectful, but you can be sure that having disposed of Sevilla, Bordeaux and Belgian league winners, Genk, Slavia will fancy their chances.  There is work to do.

  1. Big Georges Fan Club - Hail, Hail, Wee Oscar on

Thanks everyone for the kind wishes for my Bhoy WeeBGFC – he is, as they say, some man!

Aye – Saturday’s drive up from London to make the game was of epic proportions – M6 shut at Preston, so ended up haring through countyside between there and Blackburn at an unmentionable rate of knots.

Then, M6 shut again at Kendal due to a ‘police incident’. Again – much zoom-zoom required in the wee back-roads south of Penrith.

After a seven hour, 460 mile trip, we made kick off with a whole 10 seconds to spare !

Well worth it to see that performance – scintillating is the best word to describe it from start to finish. Big Eddie’s dribble was unreal – Messi-like skills from a laddie who is 6-foot plus – I think that was money well-spent.

The wee man has tried to get his own account set up here a while ago but wasn’t getting a reply from Paul – I’ll get him to try again. Don’t think he’ll be changing his CQN name at this stage of the game, though :-))

Thanks again everyone – means a lot to know people are thinking good thoughts about my boy – he deserves them. Those who have met him will confirm that what you see and read is what you get from Wee BGFC.

Just listened to the GB singing at that Rangers* / Celtic game discussed in the evening times.

They were singing the Celtic Song in that clip – is that sectarian?

Very sleekit ongoing and concerted campaign going on in the press against Celtic. Has always been antipathy to us, but recent years – especially the past 2 / 3 years – has all the hallmarks of a very concerted and coordinated plan to paint Celtic and our fans as the baddies.

If Arsenal come in with a last minute bid and meet Celtic’s valuation it won’t be reported well. It won’t be the case that Celtic held firm and in the end got the offer they wanted. It will be that Arsenal played them and they “blinked” at the last minute. That Celtic are weak.

But of course, the Ibrox club will have “held firm” and held on to £30 million Morelos.

Arsenal are aware of his issues and are still keen according to David Ornstein from BBC Sport (considered the top source for the north London clubs)

It’s obviously a hurdle though. It’s all well and good saying you are happy to sign somebody before you see the scans.

    As we all know.

No idea why we have not entered into negotiations with Cifuente. He is iron clad.Looks a perfect replacement i the future for Broony. In the meantime no one will get past them both.Everything is there.Even his sell on value will rocket.Man City wanted him to loan out. They dont take duds.I find this very strange.£ 3 million would seal the deal.

Rangers to bolster women’s team security in wake of Green Brigade’s alleged ‘unacceptable sectarian abuse’

Rangers claim their players were subjected to sectarian and misogynistic insults throughout the game at East Kilbride which Celtic won 3-1.

Rangers are set to offer greater protection to their female players after they were targeted for abuse by the Green Brigade.

The Ibrox club are ready to bolster security around their women’s squad for games at Celtic after deeming fan behaviour at Sunday’s Old Firm match as unacceptable.

Rangers claim their players were subjected to sectarian and misogynistic insults throughout the game at East Kilbride, which Celtic won 3-1.

The Green Brigade , the controversial Parkhead fan group, attended the game and Rangers claim their players were left intimidated by their behaviour.

A Rangers official even spoke to the referee at half-time to formally catalogue their concerns to the officials at K-Park, the home of the Hoops women’s team.

A Rangers spokesperson said: “Our women were subjected to misogynistic and sectarian abuse, which is totally unacceptable.

“Perhaps security measures need to be introduced for Rangers women when they have a match away from home against Celtic.”

The sides are next scheduled to meet in the league at the Hummel Centre in October, but Rangers will take steps to ensure spectators are strictly vetted.

Celtic have been approached for comment.

  19. Turkeybhoy

I agree, he would be an excellent signing.

Maybe its more a timing thing. My reckoning, is Ntcham has been told, knuckle down, give us your very best, and we won’t stand in your way, in January or June next summer, if the big move comes calling.

So with Ntcham in the numbers, plus McGregor, Brown, Bitton, Christie, Rogic, Henderson… maybe N.L feels there isn’t space for Cifuentes at the moment

  21. I also think, if Turnbull at Motherwell can prove his fitness… then we are first dibs, at re-igniting that one.

But a powerhouse like Cifuentes, these opportunities don’t come round regularly. Think he’d be our next Wanyama. And in terms of physical stature, no one in the Scottish game could live with him.

“…and now it’s THEMS thats in the mud and it’s US that have the guns….” The one and only Tommy Shelby, hope we have signed him.

  23. RUGGYMAN

I agree totally. He is a beast of a player.Looks like Christie has taken on the mantle of the Motherwell player,so Turnbull not really needed.Cifuente would be CL material,as you say, like Wanyama. We could miss out badly here.

Excuse my ignorance but who is Cifuentes and who does he play for? Sounds like real class.

Big Ecuadorian central midfielder and a star of the recent U20 world cup. A sort of fast, more mobile version of Wanyama….looks the part. We’ve admitted watching but I wonder if the Ntcham and Turnball affairs might have a knock-on and we think we’ve too many in there. Hoope Olly stays.
