Supporting your ex, hurting the one you love, ballsy Ashley

892

I’ve plenty of sympathy for Niall McGinn for coming under pressure after being spotted at the Kilmarnock-Celtic game on Monday, but not in any way distressed.  Players watch former clubs all the time, it’s not even remotely an issue, but Niall is experiencing the cost of playing in a team at the top of the league.  Aberdeen fans would neither notice nor care where he was on Monday if they were in their usual mid-table spot.

A taste of internecine strife does more damage than any external party could ever hope to inflict.  Glad to hear it’s taken route at our nearest rivals.  On a similar note…….

A serious bid to bring newco Rangers to its knees got into full swing yesterday, as thousands of ‘fans’ signed up to spend not a penny more with the club, while mock-Rangers jerseys (should that be mock-mock-Rangers?), sold by fans’ groups, were profiled in the media.

If you know your history, 20 years ago a group of Celtic fans, some working on the frontline, some working behind the scenes, orchestrated the Celts for Change campaign, which ultimately brought regime change at Celtic.

Celts for Change had two fundamental factors in their favour: people with access to the money required to resolve the club’s problems were among them, while those running Celtic did not have access to significant funds, personal or otherwise.

The lessons of Celts for Change is that before you hurt the club you love: make sure you are capable of laying a glove on those you are trying to damage, and when you bring things to a head, ensure you have the money to put things right.  In newco’s case this will be many tens of millions.

I backed Celts for Change and I wholeheartedly back those who are trying to bring down newco.  Their plans and foresight are exceptional.

Care to guess which Scottish club has been most active in the transfer market this month?  Falkirk, who have signed their fifth player.  They have won six of their last seven games and are now within a win of getting into a play-off spot.  Hot tip for the play-offs: Falkirk, Hibs, Queen of the South and Ross County.

What about Mike Ashley yesterday appointing Duff & Phelps as administrators to one of his companies?  Just in case you think he’s not ballsy.

Rapists? Hang them up and hang them high. Leave them hanging from lamp posts for a couple of weeks, so everyone gets the message. There is an epidemic of predators trying to attack our women and children. Just IMO.

    http://www.rapecrisis.org.uk/Statistics2.php

1 in 5 women in UK sexually assaulted or raped. So on this blog, say a 1000 people with partners – 200 partners will have been raped or assaulted by a pedophile or rapist at least once in their lifetimes.

85,000 raped in England and Wales last year- thats about 1 in 250 of entire female population in one year. Busy time for these rapists – surprised they have time to play football.

  2. Moonbeams,

    I would.

And no I’d rather they didn’t sign him.

3 or 4 years ago I woulda driven him up here. I really rate him but not now. Too much faux (and genuine) outrage around him.

    That’s why we have politicians….

  4. Geordie…,

    The question mark was serious,

I’m sure there is a stat maybe by victim support that is around the 90% .

If it’s an official figure, going on the other topic I discussed it might be reliable

That’s a little too close to the ‘shouldn’t dress like that’ apologia for comfort.

We should be careful not to attribute the motive of the few to the horror suffered by the many.

That’s it in a nutshell….and why Evans shouldn’t be allowed to join a professional football team

  7. Actually…

Obviously I wouldn’t be re-employed by my employer if my sexual assault was work related.

But I’m sure we all knowd that :)

  8. I think rapes by footballers attract much more interest from the MSM than rapes committed by plumbers.

    Just a thought.

  10. Canamalar,

Once I posted it I had a thought that the stat might include ‘unreported incidents’ that were actually ‘reported assaults’ to folks other than the police.

  12. I’ve served on two juries, both rape cases, one guilty, one not guilty. I can echo some other jurors’ experiences regarding people jumping to conclusions about guilt – even after hearing just the initial prosecution evidence and no defence argument whatsoever.

In most cases these were young women who, along with some male jurors, were just concerned about getting back to work as quickly as possible.

Thankfully, there were a few more mature individuals on both juries adding some balance and a bit of common sense to the situation.

What also makes it dicey is what is now deemed rape was never such a few short years ago.

due to them being in high profile positions were they are highly paid for plying their trade partaking in a popular hobby while being role modles for many many many thousands of young children.

I’m not sure there are many young kids out their who hold plumbers or their employers in such high regard, place posters of their plumbers on their walls and wish to be their favourite plumber one day.

That said I doubt there are many plumbers who would just walk back into their jobs and\or profession if ound guioly, convicted and served time for rape.

ger57 – So should we censor some “offensive” material but not other “offensive” material?

    Who decides?

It’s a tricky question and depends on what you mean by “censor”, but I think the answer is “yes” and responsible parents and the relevant authorities should decide.

For example, if the Beeb decided to commission a show called “The Erotic Adventures of Gimpy McSeckslave” and air it on Ceebeebies, I would write a strongly-worded letter to “Points of View”.

If they put it on a scrambled television channel for adults, I wouldn’t.

On the subject of naughty videos on the internet, I think it’s up to parents to keep it away from the kiddies. BT now offers a filtering service at the firewall level, which is a good start. (thumbsup)

I was aware of my comment being perceived in that way but it is most certainly not what I meant. A woman has the right to dress in whatever fashion she wishes. If that draws whistles, lewd comments or anything more serious, that is entirely the responsibility of the perpetrators.

My point was made simply because of my reading of the case at the time. Evans did not come out of it at all well but the woman`s behaviour and misty recollection of events made the verdict suspect. I will, of course, stand corrected if anyone offers other evidence but this case has never seemed clear cut to me.

    Yes, any orifice.

The conviction rate for rape was about 5% a couple of years ago, the definition of rape changed in the hope, I believe, to push the conviction rate up.

It is a crime which is very difficult to prove in that, it is generally only two people involved, one’s word against the other.

Make no mistake, it is a horrible crime if genuine.

I know that figures for reported rape are high, the figures for convictions are low. The figures for reports of women who have falsely reported rape are low, but this is to stop the fear of coming forward in reporting rape.

My post was not meant to defend Evans or anyone guilty of rape.

My point was that his case is getting the attention because he is a footballer and in the public eye.

If the guy who raped this women had been a plumber and not a professional footballer, we’d have heard no more about it.

And we’d probably be talking about the ‘Tic or somethin’ now.
