Techniques to deliver titles

393

I’ve never known Celtic to subsidise an away match ticket before. Put aside for a second thoughts of thanking the fans for their support during a difficult period (which are valid), I like this move for the message it sends to those in the dressing room, as well as the stands.

We are in a league race, and we want to win it. You can understand Aberdeen’s razor-sharp appetite. They’ve not won the league in over 30 years, every man, woman and child in their ranks will be forgiving of faults and profuse in praise.

By contrast, this will be our five-in-a-row, the 11th title in 16 years. It will never come close to what we experienced in 1998, when we worshipped the words of Wim Jansen after a late-season home draw against soon-to-be-relegated Hibs.

For many of us, 1998 was our Celtic supporting high point – it meant that much. Hopefully we will never again be in a place where a domestic title has such importance. Instead we need to find techniques to deliver that edge, to remind us of the importance of getting it right in every league season.

I refer to that Hibs game in 1998 often, it felt like a pivotal moment. We were nip and tuck for the title, what would have been an historic 10-in-a-row title, one which would have violated one of Jock Stein’s teams’ records. That day, it felt like the chance was slipping, but there would be no let-up. We bundled our nerves together and moved on.

Telling the world that the club is subsidising fans’ ticket costs is one technique to help deliver a little bit of that focus. Let’s hit the plastic running on Saturday.

  1. Ok that’s enough, I am now getting a picture of Rutherglen Town Hall down the left hand side of my screen….. Hold on….No it isnae….There’s no union rag fluttering on its turret….it’s Disneyland (some say another name for Rutherglen anyway) :)

Off to buy a new Celtic Dressing gown and matching slippers.. (they don’t do pipes)….I may do a bit of a cat-walk later to show them off! You lucky lucky people.

  2. Not chasing money after Cheltenham Day 1 for a change, thanks to Paddy Power successfully tempting me with their lunchtime enhanced odds on Vroom Vroom Mag, so a ‘subsidised’ day 2 to look forward to.

And then, win or lose, a chance to watch one of the best front threes in the history of the game tonight, led by its greatest ever player, who’s now added to the dribbling, and the phenomenal goal-scoring, an array of passing that takes the breath away at times with its touch, vision and accuracy.

You want me to be Xavi, now? Ok, vale.

Lucky to be around at this time to witness it.

I agree that leaving would give the tories carte blanche to push through horrendous changes to benefits, employment law, etc. But they’re doing it anyway.

Last month I suggested that a vote to leave would see them tearing themselves apart,an idea which I’ve noticed some newspapers picking up on.

The more I think about it,the more I’m inclined to give it a go,for that reason alone.

    High-risk though.

The Murdochauldandhay posted article on the previous page continues to show the Offensive Behaviour Act in the ridiculous light it deserves to be shown in. It is like something from Gulliver`s Travels.

The aim of the protest was highlight the difference between empty seats and full seats. Not supporting the team was never part of the deal.

Just back from a great break in Glasgow. The Billy McNeill statue looks fantastic! I was in the Celtic shop yesterday £29 for the hoops, can’t be bad.

    From the same article, this:

” Former Rangers manager Ally McCoist thinks that Neil Lennon could return to Celtic should Ronny Deila exit the Scottish champions as team boss.”

The giver of that opinion, alone, should be enough to make any Celtic supporter reconsider before jumping on the `Ronny Must Go ` band-waggon.

It’s great when the pressure of keeping up the Big Lie gets to them, and they slide into truthfulness and fact. Good job that in Scoddish Fitba’ the meaning of words can be easily changed to suit, and absurd notions, like administration and liquidation being the same thing really, are readily entertained.

  12. Away tae gie Paddy his money back.

Have a great day whatever you’re doing.

And if your circumstances mean you can’t, I’ll think about you and try to appreciate how lucky I am.

  15. Monday 16th

I had a wonderful visit today with my mother, father and Marcella. Wonderful, considering the circumstances and the strain which indeed they are surely under.

As I expected, I received a lot of verbal flak from Screws going and coming from the actual visit. Their warped sense of humour was evident in their childish taunts, etcetera.

I wrapped myself up well to keep me from the cold. My weight is 58.25 kgs today, but I burnt up more energy today with the visit. I’ve no complaints of any nature.

I’ve noticed the orderlies are substituting slices of bread for bits of cake, etcetera — stealing the sweet things (which are rare anyway) for themselves. I don’t know whether it’s a case of ‘How low can you get?’ or ‘Well, could you blame them?’ But they take their choice and fill of the food always, so it’s the former.

They left my supper in tonight when the priest (Fr Murphy) was in. There were two bites out of the small doughy bun. I ask you!

I got the Sunday World newspaper; papers have been scarce for the past few days.

There is a certain Screw here who has taken it upon himself to harass me to the very end and in a very vindictive childish manner. It does not worry me, the harassment, but his attitude aggravates me occasionally. It is one thing to torture, but quite a different thing to exact enjoyment from it, that’s his type.

There was no mirror search going out to visits today — a pleasant change. Apparently, with the ending of the no-wash protest, the mercenary Screws have lost all their mercenary bonuses, etcetera, notwithstanding that they are also losing overtime and so on. So, not to be outdone, they aren’t going to carry out the mirror search any more, and its accompanying brutality, degradation, humiliation, etcetera.

Why! Because they aren’t being paid for it!

I’m continually wrapped up in blankets, but find it hard to keep my feet warm. It doesn’t help my body temperature, drinking pints of cold water. I’m still able to take the salt and five or six pints of water per day without too much discomfort.

The books that are available to me are trash. I’m going to ask for a dictionary tomorrow. I’d just sit and flick through that and learn, much more preferable to reading rubbish.

The English rag newspapers I barely read, perhaps flick through them and hope that no one opens the door. A copy of last week’s AP/RN was smuggled in and was read out last night (ingenuity of POWs again). I enjoyed listening to its contents (faultless – get off them ! – good lad Danny (Morrison)). I truly hope that the people read, take in and understand at least some of the truths that are to be regularly found in it. I see Paddy Devlin is at his usual tricks, and won’t come out and support the prisoners…

Well, that’s it for tonight. I must go. Oíche Mhaith.

And what has calling SNP voters ‘Sheep’ got to do with Celtic or CQN.

You need your medicine again, the bitterness is seeping out.

Whats next….an attack on poor people?

I seen you do that one before.

  24. I see the onslaught has started in earnest to undermine the Club by undermining our manager. That lot of ratbags that we have to pay for, BBC Scotland, have even had the gall to interview McCoist about our situation. Only in Scotland. As for Mackay and Moyes playing along with them, hoping to benefit from the situation: well, in my book, hopefully, that’s the last we will hear from either. They can’t be real Celtic men, if they put their own prospects before the Team winning the league. And make no mistake, that is what is driving the SMSM. Anything to thwart our Club.

  25. MURDOCHAULDANDHAY@9:01

    ———————————————-

The one thing that guarantees a Tory majority and their attacks on the most vulnerable in society, is the return, en masse,of SNP MPs to Westminster.

With boundry changes coming up in the near future, a large SNP pressure group, for that’s all they can ever be in the commons, only ensures a permanent Tory government.

The only way to topple the Tories is to back the Labour party – not at the present time with Corbyn and his London mafia in charge – but in future when the renewal takes place, as it surely will.

There will be a Tory administration until at least 2025, and of course there is absolutely no chance of another referendum in that time, due to the financial collapse of any credible economic case for indy – the majority of Scots are not turkeys, nor flag-eaters and they won’t vote for financial suicide at Christmas, or any other time.

The Barnett formula is an essential cornerstone in the Scottish economy – we need a strong UK Labour party to ensure it’s survival.

So when this madness that is the Tartan Tory SNP Cult peters out, as it surely will, I urge all those converts that they persuaded with their nonsense and downright lies, to get involved in the Labour movement, let’s renew and reshape it – if a mob like the SNP can come from nothing to where they are in a few years – then Labour, a much bigger party with a stronger base, can achieve things much quicker – it is the only way.
