The Australia deal, Ibrox narrative and grievance complexes

382

Let’s clear this one out of the way, Newco are not being paid the same money Celtic will receive for competing in the Sydney Cup; Celtic will receive more than twice as much as their city rivals (figures reported elsewhere are accurate).  Confirmed.

The fee Celtic will receive, let’s call it, a ‘Jota’, is a lotta money.  The commercial department has delivered bigger deals – multi-year kit contracts, but as a one-off arrangement, this is exceptional.  The manager, who has not been home in three years, was also very keen on it happening.  The deal was not contingent on playing Newco or their participation in the tournament.  This payment is also not at risk if Newco get so much bad publicity from being filler in the Ange Homecoming Tour they decide to pull out……

I expect a couple of top English Premier League teams will also confirm games in Australia during the World Cup break, each working independently with the same promoter.

There is nothing particularly exceptional about this.  Ange Postecoglou is a sporting hero in Australia, the higher value offered to Celtic reflects this.  If he was at Ibrox, the story would be different.

This one does not suit the narrative from Ibrox, or from those peddling hoary old stories about Celtic and imagined partnerships.  It’s a lot easier being on the outside with a grievance complex and a keyboard, than being the commercial team that will put money on the table for the transfer window.

Tomorrow we might pick up on the vanity project that Chelsea has been for the last two decades.

  1. Kent deliberate dive this time in the box.Ref sees it.Nothing.Kent fekin complaining. Why not.The Refs a fud.

  2. Rangers shorts definitely have a green trim round the bottom. Remember the fuss of the SMSM when Celtic had Peoples blue Ford motif on our jerseys. Wonder if we’ll hear anything.

  3. Not watching sevco, but happy if they get through. More games for them and points for Scottish co-eff. Win win

Sorry mate, can’t agree. They get more money, more confidence and an enhanced reputation. They have already overtaken us in the co-efficient tables. We don’t want them to get out of sight!

It bugs me that they have recently done so much better than us in Europe.

  5. incredible luck , every big call went in huns favour .

Still don’t think this tie is finished .

  6. INIQUITOUSIV – they look a completely different team in Europe than the SPFL. They are also unbelievably lucky. But they are racking up a lot of results that we would be delighted with

  7. `This from Richard Foster, former Sevco player.`

I think Foster is a rarity in Scottish Broadcasting ie, he is fair.

  8. One thing is apparent, as if we didn’t know beforehand – the Ibrox club have the game for Europe – that is self-evident, and has been for three years, although I would add, neither this game, nor, this tie, is finished.

  9. Just reading the report on here re newco game , Kent does it constantly as he gets away with it . Unfortunately it’s a thing we will witness over the next 8 games . all this media notice of our games and scrutiny of mibs decisions reportedly in our favour are a set up for whataboutery for what has to come for us . Reading Celtic sites we are seeing the finishing line ,but believe me we have a ways to go , the mibs aren’t finished with us yet . HH

  10. If Leeds lose today, they look destined for the drop. They would be 1 and 2 points ahead of Everton and Burnley respectively, but Everton would have 3 games in hand and Burnley 2, both with far better goal differences.

  11. McInnes also says penalty was soft and shouldn’t have been given. He points out, correctly, that no one was claiming for it other than Kent

….but of course he is an educated man – education & intelligence always trump bias – both cannot co-habit.

  13. Kent threw his leg out deliberately to make contact with Defender, McShagger a yard off his line before penalty taken, Aribo could/should have got red instead of yellow,

The 2 VAR Decisions which ruled out the Red Star goals were probably correct but they were close, just shows the border line incidents going their way.

For my part Red Star looked the better team, if they get a goal back second half, they will batter them in Belgrade.

  14. Corner know CK and great header by Balingu. They have target men for corners that deliver goals.
