The rascal Neil Lennon

771

What a rascal that Neil Lennon is, laughing off interest in Amido Balde while leading us all down the Kevin Doyle road last week, then Amido pitches up at Celtic Park, complete with obligatory Celtic scarf, before heading for some scans and time plugged -up with on the running machine today.

Amido’s road to Celtic Park has not been straight.  He was released by Sporting Lisbon last year without kicking a ball for them, but he has spent a year in a competitive league playing against some Champions League defences, so Celtic will have a fair idea of what kind of player he is.

Does he have the technique?  Does he have the physique?  Does he have the temperament?   John Park and the scouts will have given Neil Lennon lots of information on these elements of Amido, so there should be no surprises.

This is even more true of Balde than of last season’s twin striking signings, Lassad and Miku (trivia question of the future, Who led the line for Celtic when they beat Barcelona in 2012?).  Both arrived in the final days of the window, with options expiring all around and beggars choosing.

As always, the most important hope for any transfer window is that the manager and scouts get their first choices.  That assured, we’ll do alright.

11 June and first piece of transfer speculation. Held the tide as long as I could.

We have a special Father’s Day offer for the Willie Wallace book.  Order between now and Thursday morning and we’ll include a Father’s Day card, complete with your own message. See the big graphic to the right..

I hope the lad balde turns out to be half the player big bobo was. Now we have a striker on board, what about a bit of midfield creativity just for good measure, i am sure Neil has been working on it….

SOAL, cheers for gig times. The Who tomorrow night and Green on Saturday. Don’t know if the old ears can handle it.

    Re Balde

Maybe I am just an optimist but this guy appears big and strong and a tireless worker off the ball who runs into the channels and links the play.

He may just be the making of Anthony Stokes who will be twice the player he currently is if he can find a link man and gain a real predatory strikers confidence.

It’s not how we feel when a player signs that matters, it’s how we feel when he leaves.

All the best to ole Amido.

Campbell— a compromised charlatan and corporeal cadaver masking as an experienced executive with expertise in manipulation and malfeasance.

You will gather that he is not for me.

  10. I agree we do not want to be a long ball side and we all want a Lubo type who can produce the killer pass. However we don’t want to be one dimensional either. There have been times last year in the SPL when I longed for a big target man that we could lump a long one up to. bestofbothworldscsc.

  14. We really must watch what we say here.

Legal Tax Avoidance is not Tax Dodging. So far THEY have not been deemed guilty of Tax Dodging.

What THEY did do, in the person of wee Craigie, was to simply hold back payment of taxes due, then resort to the perfectly legal, if grossly immoral devices of putting THEMSELVES into administration followed by liquidation.

This resulted in HMRC and other creditors being left to sing for their money.

The situation for creditors has not been not helped by the real scandal of the whole sorry affair.

That is an administration process that put the survival of the company before the interest of the creditors.

    Dearie me No.

I don’t want a striker whose main feature is that he creates space etc, for others.

I want a striker who will score 20 plus goals per season.

Lets hope Balde can do that.

    I have my doubts.

I hope Celtic voted against him remianing in position.

Who is voting him in? What evidence is there that this guy has done a good job anywhere?

Rumour has it you are helping C O with his book?

  18. Amido Balde gives us options, we now have four quality out and out strikers, Balde, Hooper, Stokes and Watt. Competition and depth, what’s not to like.

Johnny Russell may well have done a job, but I’m happy to trust Lenny.

I wish Amido every success at the Club. Go on big mhan.

Why? That is the question that springs to mind regarding Ogilvy, not only why Celtic would vote him back in, don’t know if they did, but why any club would want him back for another two years? Given all the revelations Charlotte is revealing, even given they aren’t confirmed as yet, surely this would have put doubt into the minds of those voting?

There has to be a reason, and I don’t believe it is simply that we are complicit in corruption, that’s too lazy. What do we gain by having this man in this position?

I don’t know the answer mind, but I’d like to.

What evidence is there that anybody at the SFA has ever done a good job, a feckin’ gravy train for bluenoses and brown nosers as far as I can see..

I must be delusional to think that somehow the game can be cleaned up in Scotland..

  20. Im shocked at the re-election of Ogilvie, dont know about majorities in voting but read that to adopt stronger anti racism/secterianism measures required 75%, surely their must have been more than 25% opposed to his continuing to ruin the game here.

Prior to the arrival of Lou Macari as manager, Frank Connor was unbeaten as interim boss against which three clubs?

  22. It does make me smile ( in a sardonic kind of way) every time someone on here mentions a decent player from the past.

These players reach a level of performance in the mind ( of the poster) that they never reached in reality.

The same point can be made concerning Celtic in general.Teams of the past are ALWAYS much better than the current team.

Just wait a few years and people will be recalling the great players we once had –

Commons,Samaras,Hooper,Forster,Wanyama,Lustig etc — and wishing we had their like again.

I am old enough to have seen Celtic in their nine in a row period. I lived in England so only saw the occasional game . I could, though, see that they were a better side than any in England but I can assure you the supporters at the time did not share that view nor did they appreciate just how good that team was.

Incidentally, this post is as a result of those who have suddenly turned Bobo Balde into a world class defender.

Dying to know how many opposed!?

    Deal-breaker for me

  24. Ogilvies re election will disappoint many but surprise few, he is part of the cabal, he is instrumental in the great fix, he is part of the group.

I’d hope that Celtic FC would have raised their concerns as regards his continuing employ, I won’t try to guess whether they did or not, but given this new transparency of governance that we are asked to believe is in place, id like to think the Club would let us know, if asked the question.

    Then again maybe not.

By continuing to ignore the issue we become part of the issue, we are as a Club complicit in ensuring it continues, the allegations made against Mr Ogilvie and indeed Mr Regan are at this stage, still only allegations, to my knowledge no rebuttal has been made by either individual, I find that quite strange indeed, they are purported by others to be honourable men, again I find that quite strange, but if that is indeed the case then the honourable thing to do would be to stand aside for the good of the game, and not to remain in place for the good of one lower division member.
