Vacancy for a coach to challenge O’Neill orthodoxy

914

If/when minds at Celtic get around to considering a replacement for Alan Thompson it would also be wise to recognise the international nature of the game.  Lennon, Mjallby, Parker and Thompson were all football sons of Martin O’Neill, rooted in the domestic tradition of the game (even the Swede).

Football philosophy drifts slowly between national boundaries carried by successful coaches and players.  Right now the ambitious teams in the world are trying to ape the Barcelona/Spain model, the success of which is hard to argue with, but whether we look for a Spanish influence or not, we must surely look for a voice to challenge what the current management team regard as orthodoxy, in all aspects of the job.

Neil has his weak points but he is a young manager of one of the biggest clubs in the world, next 2 seasons is where Neil will be judged IMO.

WGS never got excepted for what ever reason he just didn’t get into the hearts of the fans.

You’ve met some of them I don’t think there has been a sober judgement or statement on my bus for the last 10 years.

Good to see you back ma pal!!

  4. WGS got in the hearts of Celtic fans, the fact there are still some fans who think otherwise is strange. You do realise that you are in the minority? At the time you didn’t really seem to grasp the situation, and now years later it’s still not sunk in, you were wrong.

  10. Regarding the WGS debate, I remember arguing with my mates after we lost the league in 09. They said he should go, I said be careful what you wish for !

To be fair none of them wished for BTM but that was the level of our clubs ambition and he got our backing nevertheless… well until the St Mirren game.

For the record I personally liked WGS since he became our manager.

A lot of people thought WGS was too abrasive with the press… I thought he treated them with the contempt they deserved and for that I loved the wee guy!

Maybe i just like guys who started out not being traditional Celtic fans and once at the club become one of us.

For example take Scott Brown.. always thought he was the better of the Brown/ Thompson pairing icidentally and I stuck by him when my mates were giving it …he didn’t want to play for us Hun etc, etc

Sometimes we all need to remember what being a Celtic fan is all about and give people a chance

Wasn’t making it personal mate, you missed Willie Maley btw.

I asked three times to get a reply, anyone would get impatient.

He was accepted by most, give me specific reasons why you didn’t accept him, not vague, specific, what did he do to offend you.

The Milan victory, beating Man U, I really don’t understand, persuade me with an arguement that makes sense, everyone else who doesn’t like WGS just doesn’t, no real coherent arguement, it would be nice to hear a thought through reason.

I believe WGS gave his all and still speaks well of Celtic, that will do for me.

    Goodnight all.

  15. I said before 4 years I argued with fans about WGS, but they were in the minority but couldn’t see it at the time and it seems still can’t see they were in the minority, They always thought they were speaking for the whole fan base, where have we heard that before;

Now the Telernator, great player with Naka or only getting a game because he was porking WGSs duaghter?

I pop in now and again. Tonight is the first night i have read through the blog. Its far better when the majorityof the comment and debate surrounds the Bhoys rather than the ‘shame’. So tonight i decided to linger a little mire than i would have had the topic of conversation been the norm of late. Enjoyed it tonight.

Expect a wee package through your post Monday or Tuesday as i’ll be mailing a wee something to Oscar and Izzie from Derry on Saturday morning.

Joe Ledley was certainly forged from a Celtic mould.

Good you have all settled back in to life back in the North of Ireland.

Thoughts & Prayers being forwarded daily. Give Oscar and Izzie a hug from me.

  18. That’s what was punted around for 2 seasons when he played. Bad choice of words I’ll admit that but it was so bizarre that I didn’t think he needed playing down

Went to numerous games were I thought we were very poor on the way home he would come on the radio saying we played brilliant, treated the fans as idiots.

    His football bored me.

    The Huddle………………….

It would not have mattered how you said it.

    That was crass & pitiful.

  21. Are you not smart enough to realise that what WGS told the press and what he thought were the same thing?

If ol Fergie at Man U says this is the best Utd team ever do you believe him?

  22. Kilbowie

It was said many times for the years Telfer was with us, it even started out that he was WGSs son in law,

    Apologies if the language offended.
