Your supporter groups, your club, your streets

The umbrella group, Fans Against Criminalisation, issued a statement yesterday (kindly published here by Joe O’Rourke on the Association site) which details a number of events in response to Saturday’s policing on Gallowgate, and the resulting response from the SNP government.  Witnesses are invited to give evidence on Saturday (23rd March), with three protests planned next month.

To the relief of all, I’m sure, the statement also records that issues surrounding meetings two organisations had with the Club in November have been resolved.

Our Club and supporters groups are led by the kind of people you would trust with your most precious valuables, as many of us do.  They each strive in new and innovative ways to herd cats in the right direction, with remarkable success.  The tasks, carried out by hundreds of Celtic fans, of running buses, chasing tickets and navigating the impossible political challenges, is often thankless.  I know a few who wonder why they bother.

They bother because they care.  The office-bearers dedicate even more time looking after the common interests.  There are more Celtic heroes than those who wear the hoops.

I hear Fifa president, Sepp Blatter, has appointed Jeffrey Webb, currently head of CONCACAF, as chief of a newly created Fifa body to fight racism in football.  Mr Webb is a director of one of the largest banks in the Cayman Islands, known for its…. unique standards of propriety.  Nice.

Quick word for Tommy in Glasgow…. brilliant!

    Jimtim,

As I tried to explain to bada…, they are trying to attract the corporate support of our biggest rivals, there will be season ticket holders in the very near future, who will be allowed to sing their songs of hate, within the Celtic corporate sections.

And nothing will be done about it.

  2. For the second night in a row my drive home from work coincided with Clyde phone in. And for the second night in a row I heard the case being made that The Rangers fans would not be keen on being in the division of 18 teams in a 12-12-18 restructure. A semi-logical argument of wanting to be promoted after winning a league I can understand, though not agree with.

But the one that has me going “Huh?” is the one where they say they don’t want to play against the same teams as they played this season. They don’t want to have to visit Elgin or Annan again, despite how much they’ve enjoyed it this season.

And yet, they want to be in the top league where they would play 11 out of the 12 same teams year after year. FOUR TIMES. Potentially 2 visits to Aberdeen, Ross County, Inverness Caley,…

    What’s the difference?

  3. Playing football in England is not the answer.

Anti Scottish and Anti Irish feelings would be rife. It would stretch our good reputation as fans.

Love to see Us compete but it is not the answer in England.

Rangers would be more accepted than us.

  4. !!Bada Bing!! on

canamalar -If the GB were full of chants and banners which most found distasteful (for want of a better word),they would not get the praise and support which they enjoy IMO.As i see it the GB is the only growth area we currently have, and in PL speak i’m surprised he’s not “exploited” it more in a business sense.Playing a very dangerous game.

  5. Ah well it was good while it lasted.

    Time to log off.

    Must be the board’s fault.

Paul writes the blog and certainly wrote today’s. If you look at the very early comments someone was talking about the President of Fife. This was a typo – should have been the President of Fifa and Paul corrected within minutes of posting after getting his leg pulled by myself and others. I’ll show you the text if you like.

There is a bit of heat on Tommy on this one as he has gone beyond what is fair game and into an area where most of us are a little uncomfortable. Paul was simply sticking up for a Celtic guy who has done really well but has made a error of judgement on this occasion.

On the CQN Magazine Facebook page we often get Sevco fans posting this vile child abuse stuff. When this got really bad I put up a photo of Gazza’s wife after she was beaten up and asked if they were proud that he played for them and cheered by them a few days after this happened. I then went to a meeting and was thinking that it was in bad taste and that I shouldn’t have posted it. When I got back to my desk I immediately logged on to delete the post but it was gone. Paul took it down as Celtic fans complained to him. He never really uses the page but did so on that occasion. It was up for minutes rather than hours and I was grateful for that.

Paul may have misjudged the mood on Tommy’s latest prank call but we all make mistakes. Don’t you?

  7. Final score 2-2 superb friendly – interesting watching 2 classic sides indulge in so much ‘pack-hunting’ throughout the game (Spanish influence?).

Elgin and Annan don’t play the same silky, flowing football that Motherwell and Hearts do!

  9. Supersutton,

I too was in the car for the last 10 mins of the phone in, BFDJ now believes its fact that Stranraer were promoted 2 divisions, he is a clown of the highest order,

  10. GoogyBhoy,

Even before Rangers became Sevco became The Rangers, when was the last time they were invited to play a friendly or Testimonial match in England?

From memory we get invited to a fair few.

Competitive league games may be different, but surely Manchester 2008 must live in the memory of English supporters? And certainly among club chairmen.

I do see the point the anti Scottish/Irish sentiment may be a problem, but not sure we couldn’t win them over, the song book would have to be amended though.

It may even be worse if the vote next year goes for Independance.

  11. I dont go onto other club forums . But can i ask . Are any other clubs fan forums commenting on thems pleading to get elevated up the league. Or is it just celtic fans , cause we need support from other clubs or they will get their way , as we all know

    ticketbus,

Your argument identified it as the only possibility, it’s the only place our folk songs are deemed offensive outside Scotland.

Nowhere else outside Scotland objects to our lullaby’s and battlecrys or songs of hope and joy, then again our own board do, so it’s no wonder supporters are a bit confused eh.

  13. gebhoy, I understand and share your frustration but remember its those who can endure most rather then those who can inflict most will triumph. The more they persecute & harass us the stronger we will become. They scored a major own goal last Saturday, we will win this war, they may win battles, there may be a few bloodied heads but if we stay strong and united we will win. Tiocfaidh ár lá.

have been saying similar things over the last few days and wholeheartedly agree with you, especialy since glasgow roads revelations..not unless ive missed it..has anyone from celtic challanged his claims? I said last night that time is running out on issues surrounding thems and the gb..protests have to start asap..the message has to be cast iron to the plc…we dont want anything ever to do with the huns!!

Protect our fans individualy and collectively or feel the wrath if you ignore..

Start legal action agains sevco.oldco for our lost revenue due to their cheating..shareholders surely have direct interest in this issue and the plc should be representing them…rant over!!

  18. Fashion, is it?

I was at a wee fashion event today and there were no, as in zero, flares on display.

Two things I can reveal, however, are as follows.

    1. A fashion student, a young man in his early 20s, turned up wearing a kind of full-length black soutane with the bottom all open to reveal what looked like women’s leggings underneath. I’m calling this new trend Opus Dei Chic.

    2. As revealed exclusively more than a year ago by your own CQN fashion correspondent, the, and I mean theeeeee, colour for spring-summer 2013 is green. Any green. Any mix of any number of greens. This may not turn out to be true for the fashion vaccuum that is Ayrshire, but will be true in most parts of the civilised world. The London-based creative director of a major group of brands turned up today in an emerald-green tap and jade green skirt combo. And we are only just into spring-summer. She knows what’s coming, that woman.

  19. Sally starting to sound desperate now with his “Stranraer were promoted 2 divisions” nonsense.

  22. Corkcelt,

Well it has certainly got me off my arse and involved again your lucky if i had posted 10 times in 18 months i have posted at least that since Monday.

I will be renewing my season card next year, if have yet to decide whether i will attend though, a lot will depend on the actions of the club towards the support until the end of the season.

I have known about the actions and policy of the club behind closed doors towards the GB since at least the start of January, add in the total and utter capitulation of the white wash that was the LNS and lack of action from the club has scunnered me.

I will still be there long after the current custodians disappear over the horizon with there big fat bonus…..

Man, it was bizarre. There were (this was a dream, btw) of cancer demons dragging me into the abyss and I awoke shouting for my mrs.

The MacMillan nurses were fanatastic though.

If this is stupid stuff to be telling you, well……part of the illness is because of massive use of steroids you develop a condition called hypomania……..this is it.

So apologies if i drive you rigid with boredom.

    HH!

  24. Think I’ll give the blog a miss for a quite a while.

You’d think the Celtic support never existed prior to the GB. The attention given to this small fan group is proportionately ridiculous.

The only time there is more bollocks posted than when discussing the GB is when there is a songs debate.

Of course they are actually about the same thing:

    a) If you are not unconditionally for the GB or unconditionally for singing any song, you are unappreciative of the raison d’etra of Celtic. Consequently you are the lesser fan not an uber fan.

    b) As direct consequence of the lesser fan status you must be pro board. The board of course is the ultimate lesser fan (at best).

Such a pointless waste of energy. A constant introspection so debilitating to the health of the main body. A search for minutiae to serve as controversy.

OK got that off my chest with an expectation few will agree.
