Celtic interims report turnover up

571

Celtic published a decent set of interim results this afternoon for the 6 months to 31 December 2015 but chairman, Ian Bankier’s address gets down to business with, “One the park, it has been a frustrating season”.

The sale of Virgil van Dijk contributed to a £12.6m income for player trading, balanced by £6.1m spent on the acquisition of Jozo Simunovic, Scott Allan, Saidy Janko Ryan Christie and Nadir Ciftci. This brought pre-tax profit to £11.7m, with cash in the bank at £7.7m (up from £5.3m a year earlier).

Turnover was up by an inch to £31.4m as the club traded at an operating profit for the period of £1.564m (before player trading). The second half of the year is devoid of European football income, not that the Europa League is that much of a game changer.

I know financial stability isn’t an end in itself, but it’s important nonetheless.

That was my point, skin colour should have feck all to do with things, but sadly it does.

There is a bloke who I meet every few weeks, he lives a fair few miles away, he is white, he is from Belfast and he is a hun, he would be about the only white person here I would have any time for, strange but true.

Only yesterday I had a run in with one of the brits here, the Mrs was out with a couple of the dugs, our dog was attacked by the brits dog, a Staffie, a brute of a dog and he was encouraging it, luckily our dug had other ideas, anyways, he started slagging the wife for not having her dog on a lead, this was in the campo, his wasn’t either, she got the racist stuff from him, so the bold TET went to his house to confront him, had the guards at the door an hour later, they were on my side, why, cos he is a brit and gay, now that is racist.

Flying the Tricolour sure does help.

MacJay, as mentioned, I argued my points, I was happy to try to persuade Maggie on the points, there was no humour in the gag. It was out of any context.

I do not believe Mags to be racist, but I now see he can’t admit an error of judgement.

    ===============================================================================

I completely understand your intention and am 100% in agreement with your stance on anti-racism and on why you felt the need to speak out.

    But…………………….Ah,never mind. :-)

For me the intent is the key to accusations of racism .

I will indeed be there in spirit tomorrow.Vital games coming up.

  4. TET, agreed, colour of skin is irrelevant.

MacJay, As will Maggie I’m sure.

Intent is only as relevant as context, and intros context, Ah…………..

Maggie I hope you read over and understand my intentions.

  5. funny auld blog this…..the same ones running to the heidy are the same ones that will tell you that Tonev couldn’t possibly be a racist because when he made the remarks he was wearing the green and white hoops at the time. I dare say if the roles had been reversed and Tonev had been playing for Aberdeen that day ……well you know. the rest

  6. Busybhoy 11.36 Thanks for that link. Love the song and the singer and by co-incidence have tickets for Mary Black concert this Sunday night, Listening to your link has me really looking forward to it.

Thanks for that, when the shackles are off we’re incorrigible. Alfredo’s for breakfast, anyone else.

Your note gives me the opportunity to wish the remaining LMS’ers good luck. When the buy-back option started, I moved to baseball rules; two free swings of the bat and take it serious on your third life.

    I’ll be there at LMS7.

I sincerely apologize if I offended you.

I do think you have your priorities wrong though as Celtic supporters.

All the “minorities” at work laughed at that one. Honestly!

  9. I think I’ve found myself agreeing with Macjay 3 times in last 2 days. In my own defence I’ve been sick and under Doctors orders since Tuesday.

  10. Margaret McGill I never seen your post but I doubt very much those you are apologising too are offended as they are making out. More a case of them puffing oot their wee pigeon chests and saying look at me guys and having the egos stoked as being such righteous Celtic supporters

I doubt very much that anyone of them would. challenge a racist joke if it was being told on a supporters bus on the way to the game

Tut tut Butsybhoy, have you not been reading the blog?

    Joke!!………..not racist, honest!

  12. Aiden bhoy because for them it’s about momey and those of us who want truth threaten that money. We are their enemy. Not the Huns.

    Us.

Gay Fawkes what exactly was stupid about my post? Or was it just uncomfortable?

67 heaven perhaps you are right and it’s just me who sees the importance of bigger things. If so then I will retire to watch us all diminish……..

First time in 3 years I think Ive agreed with you! :)

    ====================================================================

    You`re making progress,Margaret.

Even slow progress must be commended.

Wot? Dismay expunged from my moniker ?

    A temporary sop ,no doubt.

  14. Celtic is crying out for a massive cull. In the summer I would like celtic to sell: Ambrose – offers around 350k, Johanson – offers around 1.5m, Commons – take over contract, McGregor – offers around 400k, GMS – offers around 250k, Forrest – offers around 500k, Dirk – take over contract, Stokes – offers around 500k, Scepovic – offers around 1m, Cifchi – offers around 500k, Mulgew – free at end of contract, O’Connoll – take over contract , Cole – take over contract, Blackett – Return to sender. That lot would bring in about £5,000,000.00p or so and would save about £7,000,000.00p every year.

From the sales and wages saved I would like to see a quality defensive midfielder recruited. Our style of play exposes our centre backs all the time. A defensive midfielder who communicates, reads the game well and stays goal side of the ball would go some way to improving the team.

A creative midfielder who will walk into the team, someone with the necessary guile and skill set to put teams on back foot. Someone that Rogic, Christie, Allan and Nisbett can learn from given they are all young guys.

These two players would be added to the 23 players below.

    ……………………………..Gordon…………………………………..

    Lustig………..Simonovic…….Sviatchenko………….Tierney

    ……………………Bitton………….Brown……………………..

    ………….Robert……….Rogic……… Armstrong………………..

    …………………………….Griff………………………………………….

    ……………………………….Bailly……………………………………

    Jenko…………..Boyata…….Findlay………………… Izzy…….

    ………………..Henderson…….DCM (promote/ purchase).

    ………….. Nisbett……….Allan…………..Christie……………………..

    ………………………….CF Richards…………………………………………

GK Fasen as 3rd choice keeper

Overall we would have a 25 man squad rather than the current 37 man squad, albeit that several are out on loan right now.

A smaller squad size would allow us to increase the salary cap so that we could attract better players while working with the same budget.

It’s easier to keep 22 outfield players happier than it is to keep 37 players happy, so better harmony in dressing room.

Winning assists with harmony of squad, again more likely with quality players in the team.

A smaller squad opens up more opportunity for youths to make the breakthrough.

Supporters can look forward to watching a mixture of 4 or 5 quality players, long serving players and youth players.

More likely to achieve decent, respectable results in European football

And all the other benefits that can be achieved when the supporters, club and team are heading in the same direction.

Continuing with high volume/ turnover of players into squad is not an option in the medium to longer term.

  16. Definitely off to my leaba. Hope everyone can shake cyber hands & make up, we are one family, doesn’t mean we have to like each other but we should be civil at least.

Match tomorrow (dodgy link unfortunately) & Mary Black concert Sunday night (Real thing), I’d gladly swap the dodgy for the real but it ain’t going to happen.

However a decent weekend lined up and I’ll squeeze in the egg chasing as well be it live or recorded,

For the second & final time to-night, Good Night & God Bless.

  17. Mickbhoy 1888,

    In Mags defence,

His/Her comment was flippant and said in jest in my opinion.

It went along the lines of “Is Karl Heinz Rummenige African”.

If that’s offensive, then can than last one out switch off the lights please?

    Gnite all.

  18. Mickbhoy1888

So you never seen the post but doubt I’m as offended as I make out to be, bit presumption that is it not ? And if I was on a supporters bus I would stick out my wee pigeon chest and challenge it. But doubt I would challenge you Mick you sound solid.

    I agree re clear out.

I’ve always thought we should have 3 players for each position.

First 11 should be stellar and paid £15-30k/ week ( average £22k)

    second 11 should be reasonable £5-10k ( average £7.5k)

Third 11 should be development players £2-5k ( average £3.5k)

This would give scope for internal progression both within and between teams.

Total salary would be about £19m/ year

I found the joke embarrassing on a few levels

    1. It’s not that funny even if you like racist comedy ( I don’t)

    2. It is counter to Celtic values

    3. It’s pretty dated language.. That died in the 1970s
