Howdy Big Wavy.
It was me who used the term ‘bastardising’.
It wasn’t about Irish folk signing their songs in a pub, it was about Celtic fans singing a sectarian, anti-Protestant song in the ground at the Alloa-Celtic game.
Just clarifying n the interests of accuracy, mind ;-))
A big part of me has always felt that we are entirely different from the Huns – inclusive, etc. – have always felt we had bit of space on our own up on the moral high-ground.
And again, just for clarity – I don’t care particularly what others think of us. It’s just I don’t want – personally – for us be comparable with them in how they attack people on the basis of race, religion, etc.
It’s a personal thing for me – what , for me, Celtic’s supposed to be about.
If some are happy with the singing I mentioned, then fine – that’s up to themselves.

I think it was another poster referred to the irish fellas in the boozer but for the record, I’m with you on that sectarian, anti-protestant ‘line’ which I’d hoped had been consigned to the scrapheap of history. No place at Celtic Park. Ever.
My point is more about an a la carte use of the long and bloody Irish conflict amonsgt some in our support.
As I say it’s a complex relationship. No use pretending otherwise.

Just came back on, saw a couple of comments regards my earlier post, just to confirm the idea that the OO would possibly stop if only those pesky celtic fans stop singing the rebs at football is crazy, the contributer does know the OO is found all over the world? The real issue is historical intolerance of minorities that continue to this day and go unchallenged or minimised.
I don’t sing rebs and I don’t sing rebs at football matches. Even so, I have been racially abused for my irish background on multiple times noth at football games and my own community. Perhaps the real way to address the issue is to have a society that is tolerant and accepting of all its people regardless of their ethnicity. The truth is the haters will hate.
