Backlash Sunday

833

It is difficult to overstate the importance of Sunday’s cup final to Motherwell. They have won as many major trophies in the last 65 years as Celtic have won European Cups in the same period. What an opportunity they have.

Sunday might be just another final to you and me, or more importantly, to the Celtic players, but it is a date with destiny for all at Motherwell.

Right now, Celtic players will still be de-escalating emotions from Wednesday night. It is difficult to switch from one emotional peak straight into an equally intense state, but if we do not find our sharpness or thought and body, the Invincible trail will end this weekend.

I don’t think that will happen; there should be a backlash from Celtic. The open wounds from Wednesday will be used as fuel. The players have been slapped about by the hurt of defeat and will want to avoid a repeat on a national cup final. If Motherwell want to win, score a goal, or if they even want to pass the ball, they will have to operate at a level they have only attained for seconds this season.

The stakes are as high for both teams. Let’s hope the matter is decided without controversy.

Have a great and memorable day at Hampden.

As you well know some love just kicking that snake in the grass, I will be cheering on the Hoops tomorrow and I can assure my 20+ nephew and definitely my 30+ nephew wants that snake always to be there and none of them ever feel they will get bitten :-)

  5. Don’t really think that in our heart of hearts , we expected to get anything from PSG . But it was definately a downer to be shown up the way we were . It has been highlighted on here so many times by posters , regarding how easy we give the ball away , careless careless play , and Not only against the top notch teams either . We have area,s in the team that require strengthening. A fact that’s overlooked because we are in a league of our own up here , those results against .bayern . And PSG give our detractors the sticks to beat us with , detracting from our displays in going all those games unbeaten . We must aim for a team that can compete better in Europe , although it won’t get us matching the executive clubs . It may stop us getting hammered by them . The finance should be there to make the effort to up our class a bit . And I know it will be harder bringing in better players to playi up here . But we’ve managed to get moussa , Roberts , and Sinclaire to come here , we are still a huge club , we are still an attraction . But as always just my opinion.

  6. CELTARELLA- do you think that’s why Arsenal after getting pumped by BM decided to opt for Europa

I remember when Qatari St Germain took 5 of us at home.

On the bus going home we started singing

“This is what it feels to be sevco”

You maybe had to be there.

Did you post the other night you didn’t want Anderlecht to match our result so our last game meant something ?

By the way am delighted after the CL draw our last game of 6 keeps our season ticket holders or others enjoyment alive …. don’t get me wrong 4pts would have been great but when the draw was made keeping our hopes alive was our best option and being in the driving seat Celtic 2 Anderlecht 0

  11. fairhill bhoy on 25th November 2017 6:14 pm

I dont think its something Arsenal opted for. However, IMHO the EL is excellent European preparation for Celtic.

Well thank you. Thats one of the nicest compliments Ive had. :)

  13. As much as I admire BRs stance not to park the bus I would suggest he made that comment on the back of a meaningless game. Should the circumstances arise where we require a draw away from home to progress in Europe akin to Barca in 2004 I sincerely hope we defend a whole lot better than we did in Paris which was lamentable. Hh

  14. I detect a bit of concern over the morra’s game why. We are 11 points and 19 GD ahead of the family club. Ok they beat the sheep up at the pen, so did we,in fact we molicated them.

Personally I hope that mcsleeit goes the sevco as he’s a breest

Gerry, nearly right I asked the question with a wee bit added on at the end, saying.i wanted us to have something to play for.

Either way im going, but when the news came through the other night that the Germans had scored a second, I hit the roof.

GERRYFAETHEBRIG if your about meant to tell you .the wife is out allday tomorrow to a christmas market. and my fridge is well stocked up with some nice german beer. by the way the town she is going to is in lancashire now i was going to throw this quiz question to you but your far too young to have seen this tv programme comedy . where i think the character of jimmy krankie was devised the town has the same name as the tv programme cyber pint for the answer.

  17. Looking forward to putting Murderwell to the sword tomorrow.

    4-1 to the Bhoys.

The media talking up Murderwell is just hope and heart over anything else.

As for Wednesday. I’m happy for Brendan to keep to his footballing philosophy in the CL. Why should he change? Park the bus. Na I thought going forward we were good for the most part and could have scored another from Moussa which he missed and it rebounded of his standing leg and we also should have had a penalty.

Playing to your philosophy though includes the players getting the basics right. Our defenders need to defend better and our midfielders need to midfield better.(credit to the Hun who came up with that). Brendan has to be able to trust his players to do the basics right. I honestly thought 4 of their goals were avoidable. 4 goals due to poor midfielding and poor defending. With the pen going our way, Moussa connecting and defending and midfielding well we could have put the fear right up PSG.

No matter who we play at whatever level I’d like Brendan to instil in the Bhoys that they are just 11 men against 11 men and remove any discussion or thought about superiority or inferiority pre-game. Listening to a couple of interviews prior to game including Brendan talk of how good the opponent is should be removed and any question put to anyone about how good a team is is refuted with a simple answer explaining that we are only concentrating on ourselves and aren’t going to get involved in dis ussions about an opponent. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a player talk down a poor opponent. So why talk up a good one?

Fair enough after a game but not prior to it.

  20. Tomorrow we go for our fourth domestic trophy in a row against a pumped up in form Motherwell team with an astute manager and a striker Louis Moult in the form of his life. Motherwell beat Aberdeen away in their last game with Moult bagging 2 well taken goals. Last season Motherwell were the closest team to beating the Invincibles in a pulsating game at Fir Park. We will need to be our best tomorrow. Hh

  21. CELTARELLA- my point being arsenal won’t let that worry them and there in champions league every year,we’re still taking baby steps

  22. Don’t get all the angst about Paris. Think back to when the draw was made, we were dealt a difficult draw, no doubt about it. So, what did you think would happen, seriously. We knew Bayern and PSG would have the beating of us, of course they would. I mean, what did you expect, ffs

Frankly, it turned out the way I expected and we are in the EUFA league. Perhaps we could do well if we get the breaks, perhaps not., but we must keep behind our team, no matter what.

OK, you park the bussers, if we’d done that, do you really think our situation now would be different, really!!!

    Back to the present.

4 – 1 the good guys tomorrow and don’t forget, keep laughing at the hunscum, isn’t it great?

I hate Celtic getting beat but being born in 1970 and only realising Celtic circa 77 (Kenny Dee leaving) am like many others and used to it, your post about Anderlecht struck a wee chord I want any Celtic to hopefully go for a win …. my post wasn’t a dig in the slightest but Anderlecht are no PSG and when this draw was made my main hope was the Celtic fans than bought packages/tickets has something to cheer for

    Again

Celtic 2 Anderlecht 0 would be s nice wee present before St Nichoolas has to start his shift …. for Jmccormick that’s wee St Nicholas :-)

TONY, did you get a post deleted today?
