BBC editorial standards on Celtic complaint

481

I consume tons of BBC material, TV, radio, Sounds and online.  It is the most value for money media out there (apart from CQN).  It has is critics, those who would do away with it and leave the road open for the global conglomerates – that is never how they see it, of course, but I would campaign for its continued independence.

When Celtic marked the death of Shane Warne, a long time Ange Postecoglou fan, their choice of photo was attacked by a BBC correspondent on Twitter.  Unfairly so, judged the BBC Editorial Standards Board, who issued a takedown notice.  The correspondent did as he was told, albeit without the grace to apologise.

For a long time Celtic have been a cheap hit.  Politicians and journalists have felt free to work in the darkness of innuendo, an indication of the drop in standards across public life in general.  Some standards are worth maintaining.  We can only hope lessons will be learned.

    Rather mild this morning.

    What a read back.

An utter disgrace of a poster snagging Celtic and our support again.

Parks of Hamilton bus.. you are a HUN and a shitebag.

You would never stand in front of a Celtic supporter and spout the pish you do.

You are a HUN CHUMP that is a fact.

What a weirdo. Sad, billy no mate’s CHUMP.

  3. Good afternoon from a bright & sunny Jakarta, let’s get ourselves thru to Hampden tonight (or early Tuesday morning)

Pray tell ” in your humble opinion” what could be more pressing demands on our purse strings than upgrading the of stadium? We don’t owe anyone money, in fact we refused a government handout to help clubs thru Covid-19 pandemic.

  4. In the aftermath of the lockdown, and all the problems it posed for businesses that relied on mass gatherings of people, I suspect those who hold the purse strings at CP will be wary of major expenditure just to increase capacity.

  5. ERNIE. There’s no need to increase capacity.

But, there is certainly a need to upgrade the facilities in main stand and particularly the front section, to bring them into the 21st century

  6. Well there are plenty of billionaires and millionaires who support our club, who could contribute for the main stand to be upgraded and still have change in there pocket,

  7. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

    Good morning CQN.

At last, an actual game today to get our collective teeth in to !

Just over ten hours to go.

    Tick tock …..

  8. My friends in Celtic,

Economic instability like we currently have does not bode well for major investment.

Interest rates will continue to rise.

Energy costs going through the roof

    NI rise

    Transport costs rocketing.

    Economic assets losing value.

    Still navigating through the pandemic.

    Current world events.

Our ticket prices are high , disposable income is getting squeezed and Football is waiting to see what will transpire.

We can certainly plan, however I would currently not anticipate major investment.

    Cheers and HH to all.

  9. Match day !!!!!!!!!! Been too long….

Hope we play both Anton Rogan and Frank McAvennie tonight.

The Arabs are terrified of them both !!

  10. No wonder Scottish industry evaporated over the past 60 years.

It is all 5 stages of the Scottish cringe wrapped up into one.

Every reason under the sun not to look forward and plan for the future.

You have to wonder where this negativity comes from — total lack of desire to take things forward / a lack of sunshine / a total lack of confidence?

Altogether interesting stuff — what secret sauce did FMcC have that allowed him to deliver?

Thirty years away from the death spiral that was ambition in the WCS / Glesga?

No matter — it is good to dream — Plan for the future .

If you go duck hunting then you need to shoot ahead of the duck.

What do we want to build?

    1) 60K capacity with much improved facilities / no limited view seats.

    2) 67,525 capacity with much improved facilities …

    3) 67,525 capacity with future growth built in.

How do we want to finance it?

    1) Internally?

    2) Bonds with a performance element?

    3) Mix of above plus sponsorship / naming rights?

If bonds — what would be the base coupon rate?

    1) 3%?

    2) 4%?

    3) A.N. Other?

Once we have all that in place we can work out when.

History — the club at one time were very dynamic regarding physical investment.

History — Scotland was very dynamic regarding physical investment / manufacturing capabilities.

What has happened to bring about this Abominable No-Man transformation over the past 125 years?

    Stop reading the headlines.

Read / understand the story below them.

We are selling out games against StJ well ahead of time.

The Away Support is spending big to keep provincial teams afloat.

No matter what your headlines say — in reality — there is no lack of money when it comes to watching the team.

    …………………………….

Good post. I suppose when you take all those factors into account it does make redevelopment look increasingly unlikely for the foreseeable future.

  13. The other issue about investment is whether the market in England is sustainable. Events at Chelsea, and the questions being asked about Newcastle, might just possibly be the start of the finances starting to return to planet earth. If that happens it might be positive or it might be negative for Celtic.

I thought it was wabbit season😎

  15. EL @ 9.54

Where is the unsustainability in football — players wages.

The big flex in Planet Fitba is media rights vs player wages.

Media incomes fall — player wages recede.

    That will help us.

There is little or no unsustainability in general ticket costs.

There is froth inside the M25 but the EPL has quite a lot of good value tickets.

If we have an issue it is the jump / lack of flexibility between child tickets and adult tickets.

Based on what I know locally — going to games with your pals is now big for our plooky youth / 17 year olds.

You might be dropped of at the station by your mum with spending money from your gran and a route to the game from your dad — but they are the big guys because you are having a day out with your pals on your own.

What could possibly go wrong on a Saturday afternoon in Glasgow …

They only realised they were lost when they saw the Pram Shop for the second time.

These are the supporters that are causing games with St J to sell out.

We do provide a very benign environment that people who don’t know how to navigate the underground on their own can cope with.

Benign — they give the buckie boys a wide berth but know that the support is alert to mentalists / widoes and manage their bladders to miss out on the marching powder in the toilets.

The Jungle at 20 for a Euro games was a lot more interesting as I keep reminding him / them.

  16. Tom McLaughlin on

Good morning from a sunny, spring-like Village.

Looking forward to travelling the roads and the miles to Dundee to see the famous Celtic play.

Bus leaves 4:30 so time to relax and contemplate another step towards a possible treble. A pint or 2 in my favourite Leith alehouse before boarding with my hip flask in pocket.

My prediction – 2-0 Celtic and two semi-final derbies to savour.

    Bring it on.
