Celtic 5-0 Hearts

366

It was the Gary Hooper show as a five goal performance by Scottish football’s top scorer this season lit up a wet and windy Celtic Park on trophy day.  Two poachers’ goals inside the opening 8 minutes had the capacity crowd celebrating.  The opener came after Hearts’ keeper Jamie MacDonald saved a Kris Commons shot but Hooper was on hand to knock home the rebound.

The crowd had only just settled from that goal when Georgios Samaras broke down the left channel and squared a pass for Hooper to knock into the empty net.

Celtic were awarded a penalty six minutes before the break when Joe Ledley had his ankle clipped inside the box.  Gary Hooper, not a prodigious scorer from the spot, smashed the ball straight down the middle and into the net.

David Templeton was unable to hit the target midway through the second half with what turned out to be Hearts only attempt at goal all game.

Hearts conceded cheaply on 66 minutes when Kris Commons found the unmarked Hooper inside the box who gratefully converted for his fourth.

By now it was all about whether we would see Hooper score a fifth, a feat most of us had never witnessed by a Celtic player before.  He duly obliged two minutes from time when he rounded the exposed MacDonald and slotted the ball home before the late-arriving surge of Hearts defenders.

Aye I wouldn’t argue with that really, he has earned his starting slot in recent weeks. I just feel he still lacks that wee spark and goal threat we saw last season. Physically he looks okay but mentally I think he’s behind on where we know he can be.

  3. Question for those with fiscal/economic knowledge.

Could green stiff creditors by Cva or liquidation then spend tens of millions on players?

Clear debt at pennies in pounds ripping off companies and tax Payers then spend money on rankers?

    Is it possible?

I just hope it was real and not photoshopped. If anyone knows anyone who was there and could confirm….I snuck into a St Johnstone forum to see if i could find out but they’re too busy moaning about Lomas for saying that 6th is as good as it’ll ever get for St J and for caring more about his beloved Rangers than he does about them,,,,,,

The events down south were almost as dramatic as our last day title win in 2005. When do we get presented with that trophy anyway.

I am nothing you ask for, but remember with liquidation, newco, or indeed CVA (UEFA say), there is no European football for three years. That’s a significant income stream gone. Plus, we await patiently the HMRC ‘big tax case’ appeal result (double figure millions) – when that happens HMRC will put Rangers under close future scrutiny too. Your scenario is possible with investors with very deep pockets with no wish to recoup money – that’s at best unlikely. Let’s also look forward to the Mark Daly documentary, and even more digging into double-contracts.

I understand the ‘they’ll come out of this smelling of roses’ thinking, but for this situation, they are in a downward spiral of indebtedness, skintness and moral malaise. There’s also momentum on this, taking it further down.

It could all be complete nonsense but given everything that has come out since Valentine’s day can we really dismiss any possibility?

I would not be surprised if Murray wants this Documentary pulled as it will show him in a poor light regardless but who knows what could be in there.

We’ve seen the SFA say damning things about Whyte’s Rangers and all that came about because of Mark Daly’s doc.

God knows what other things are in this new one which has been purported to be WORSE.

We canny rule out anything at this stage.

I assumed that the documentary was going to be about Murray’s financial mismanagement, EBTs etc. But that’s all been done now, not least by the Daily Record yesterday. None of it would come as a shock to anyone – even those who only read MSM.

So there must be something more to it….

Bhoys I thought Kris was very effective today. Two assists is notbad return. Shot saved for the first on the rebound and the pass for the fourth which the Hertz defender could only get a toe on.

Well played Kris. Looking forward to seeing you back to your best next season.

    Hooper superb.

But the crowning glory was The God Like Genius of Georgios Samaras.

Think Mark Daly and Craig Whyte should be given Rod Stewart and Billy Connolly’s seats in Director’s box.

Is there a source for this phone hacking rumour? Maybe I’m out of touch, but to be honest I don’t recall mobiles being around till around late 90s. I know the yuppies had them in the 80’s but would Fergus really have used one in 96/97 era?

    Maybe.

Anyway, there is certainly a Murray story ready to explode. Personally I thought it would be that he knew Whyte from way back and helped him set up the Ticketus scam. Hope we find out soon. The suspense is killing me!

Yes definitely. I didn’t have one but used a friends to call M Kelly on his to ask him about Gefinor. So they definitely were in general use.

  26. Neil McCann anyone? His dad worked for me for years. Neil was desperate to sign for Celtic and TB seemed keen for a time but didn’t follow through.
