  1. I think that at the moment with Calmac, ineguchi, O’Riley, Hatate, Turnbull and even MCarthy we have sufficient t quality in sufficient numbers that losing Rogic won’t see a significant drop off in the squad.

I loved Rogic as much as anyone but I don’t think he fitted in with Ange’s style of play. The Huns worked out how to stop him from playing, there was no room for both him and O’Riley in midfield as we saw against Bodo/Glimt. I don’t think he was athletic enough to play more than a bit part in the team next season in important games.

It looks like we’re looking at a quality, first team player to play in Calmac’s position, allowing him to play further up the pitch. I think it’ll mean big improvements in beating a high press and pressing high ourselves.

I think, along with a more athletic left back, it’s the part of our game that could see us progress most as a team

  2. HAIRLIKESPAGHETTI

We are not stronger. You could argue with Rogic gone, that we are weaker.

  3. Just get them green brigade painter chaps to follow the power washer guys round the outside of the stadium …

Thank me later for my out of box thinking , in FACT rip the box up jump up and down on it and then kick it down the road …😜😂

  4. Greg Taylor being written off again by some experts on here. This time on the basis of a so so appearance by our new hero. Get yourself over to Italy for a season or two Greg, might then get some appreciation. Not sure Hickey is a better full back than you, or Ramsay, or Paterson. Stick around and be this season’s scapegoat for some of the Celtic “support”. Believe me you will be in good company, very good company indeed.

  5. So Mooy looks like joining. Not a bad signing. Free agent and will contribute to the squad.

  6. Aaron Mooy

Good solid player with a bit of dig ,

What’s not to like ,not as skilful asRogic but more agile than Bitton .

Ange likes him so do I.HH

Agree with your St Andrews post. Also the manufactured American collegiate interviews. Quite true.

I am a Greg Taylor (GT) fan … Ange gave him a 2yr extension so good enough for the boss then why should any of us experts grumble :-)

Greg replacing KT (Kieran Tierney) massive job … doing just fine in my eyes

Long may GT keep the LB (left back) jersey … I think he will actually get even better

Ironic in the sense that between 15-20% of StA’s students come from the US.

Maybe they are renegades escaping of the reservation regarding US higher education with their glee clubs / fraternity hazing / marching bands / Stepford Wives style golfing clones.

  10. Ange asked about defensive mid”Nah,not my style mate”

I have always agreed.Just how many games would we need him for?.If Mooy signs himself and Calmac will share those duties with their mobility and still be able to vary.Would be a terrific signing.

    I have been touting him,

    Mooooooooooooooy.

  11. GFTB,

100% on Greg.Excellent LB.And right up Ange street.New guy, very similar,so we know what Ange want.

    Good enough for me.

Met many a clown of a frat boy in my close to 2 decades here. Even scrapped with one or two in my younger days.

    Majority are muppets.

Been asked many a time if we celebrate 4th July/Thanksgiving in Scotland.

Been asked many a time if I have seen Braveheart.

  13. TB 11.12pm

GT (Greg Taylor) puts in a shift … some will question his defensive stuff, his height or his crossing … all I see is somebody giving 100% effort and better than some give home credit for … obviously I want our new Argentinean full back to do well but again Ange wouldn’t have given GT a new contract if he thought was wasn’t good enough …

As for some who don’t think we have strengthened … our Japanese bhoys having a full pre-season is like 4 new signings :-)

  14. AIPPLE

When I am asked if we celebrate Thanksgiving in Scotland, I usually reply, “Nah, basically we’re pretty ungrateful.”

    Gets me some funny looks.

  15. gftb

Good news on the Greg Taylor front. Shows some appreciation from the man who really counts. Not to say we shouldn’t try and get better players, but Greg has improved and is improving. And young enough to keep doing so. He’s got my support, as long as he is wearing the Hoops.

  16. TURKEYBHOY on 17TH JULY 2022 11:08 PM

Mooy plays there for Australia so it makes sense

We’ve got a heap of midfielders now but maybe with Biton and Rogic moving on there’s space for another

  17. aipple

Next time they ask if you’ve seen Braveheart, you tell them it had a different title in Scotland……

    ‘Mad Mac’

  18. GFTB

Gerry, agree that GT always puts in a shift, he has some engine on him, and he rarely gives the ball away. Good enough for most of our games in Scotland.

Put him in a Scotland shirt or a European tie, and his failings become obvious. He cannot get past a player to save himself, his has no acceleration, he is very one footed, and his crossing skills are largely non existent. Now of course, he will occasionally get one right, but overall, he is very poor at this, even with his good foot. As for matching a good class European winger for pace, he is not at the races. Time will tell how Alexandro does, but this early, he looks much faster than GT. You can’t really teach speed, it makes up for a multitude of sins, and recovery speed is essential for a defender.

Bottom line for me, although GT busts a gut, which I admire, anytime he is up against speedy European attacks, it is time for apprehension. In the past 2 years, several European teams have targeted the huge space behind GT when he or others lose possession, knowing he does not have the pace to get back quickly. We were spoiled by KT!

You don’t need to live in the US to get asked the 4th July question.

You just need to deal with them from across the ocean.

I suggested that the alternative title was — OMG what are we going to do about Canada Day.

Funny bunch — too many are the spawn of 18th century poundland aristocrats from East Anglia.

Or claim to be — generational numbers in your official name — WTF !!! ??? !!!.

    Mental.

  20. Celtic Mac 11.25pm

Exactly … we should always want better players without slagging the players we already have …

Roll on Legia on Wednesday and another workout fir the players by all accounts Legia fans not interested in this game after a terrible season and annoyed at their board…. and ticket pricing set by an outside agency

I need to admit Boruc will live in my memory long as the first top notch goalie that I have witnessed on the yellow :-)

  21. Hertz making some shrewd purchases. Rowles was really impressive for Australia in the World Cup, Cochrane is a very good player, Jamesie’s brother Alan from Livingston, and now arch Hun Shankland. I’ll be surprised if they don’t finish 3rd.

  22. INIQUITOUSIV 11.38pm

Virtually just about to log off … am the only one working tomorrow on “fair Monday” in this house …

I don’t disagree with you BUT (always a but) I think Greg can get better … but also hope our Argentinian Bhoy does well also …

Am delighted to disagree on the “what ifs” and even better if either of us ends up wrong means GT or AB have proved one of us wrong :-)

    Hail Hail

Sometimes we don’t really appreciate what we have until it’s gone = KT

  23. AM signing — praying he is the gravy and not one of the rumoured two big signings.

Hopefully he is still in all action football career building mode.

Not JMcC all action “house building” mode — joke.

Is OE still nicking about with his WCS burd?

Maybe he would want to come back and build a house locally?

  24. garygillespieshamstring on

Ross Doohan sold to Tranmere Rovers for 20 million.

Tranmere say it is an undisclosed fee, so it must be 20 million.

    Paid in bassey bucks.

  25. Not sure what to make of the signing of 32 year old Aaron Mooy on a free. I remember him as a very good tough tackling player with Huddersfield and Australia, but have not seen much of him recently. The question is, is he here as McCarthy type cover, or does he start?

    Interesting times ahead.

  26. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

Might phone the ticket office tomorrow to try and get my money back on our season tickets.

Clearly we’ve nae chance this season.

Made a comment previously about the difference between “depth” and “strength in depth”.

The following is a skewed but largely factual view of Sevco’s central defensive options.

Goldson – famously failed a medical due to a heart condition. Gave impression he was leaving before securing his pension with a whopping £8m contract Has played Sevco like a lute. Sure to be highly motivated.

Souttar – played for Hearts. History of knee problems.

Katic – Once the great white hope but that sale has shipped. Sent out to free up wages. Serious knee injury. No takers

Helander. 11 years in the trade. Less than 200 games played. Do the math

Ben Davies – Lord knows. Maybe they bought Liverpool’s “no one wants” to avoid legal action for late payments for Kent.

    Who have I missed?

    Unforgettable – that’s what you aren’t

  27. NIQUITOUSIV

I might try that one next time, cheers good sir!

Also a solid idea. Will work on other names as well. See what lands.

I should also point out I know a lot of sharp ‘mericans, but the frat boy culture is indeed a weird one as well as everyone tracing roots back to sovereignty.

Had one man tell me went back to William of that colour. I hadn’t been here that long and I was buying my first US cell phone. Told him a couple of things he didn’t like, signed up for a stupid mobile plan and bolted.
