Good morning all from Govanhill. A lovely sunny Monday, Celtic Park at 11am, my cup overfloweth.

  2. Good morning all from a beautiful sunny Garngad

Meant to be at Celtic park today with Grandkids but still unwell after coming home last Wednesday morning.

Big Jimmy & BRRB hope to meet up soon

Everyone have a lovely day whatever you are doing.

  3. Good morning from a soon to be scorchio North Staffs.

Welcome Aaron, surprising signing but good luck.

Welcome Aaron, surprising signing but good luck.”

    It wasn`t a surprise for TurkeyBhoy :-)))

    Cheerio for now.

Evening; very cold, damp and dreich downunder ;)

‘Low to the ground and hard to throw off the ball’ was how a pal and Socceroo watcher described Aaron.

Cares for the ball really nicely; at Melb City 5 yrs back, I thought he’da been a great signing.

Got even better with Huddersfield. Bit of a chinese puzzle to see if his game has improved or declined of late.

But Aaron’s arrival just made it even harder for wee Guchi to get a game – will he ever shine in a sellik shirt??

  6. Really pleased we’re looking to sign Mooy, saw a lot of him when he played in the premier league, a class apart in both the Huddersfield and Brighton teams. Surprised when Brighton moved him on, but they were embarking on a new recruitment direction with young players like Bissoma starting to come onto a game.

A real box to box player, strong in the tackle, quick and mobile with bags of energy. I read recently he left Shanghai some time ago, without a club he turned up for Australia games months later fully fit and played the full 90 minutes. A great professional and solid signing.

  7. Also, he’s got quite a “presence” in midfield, something of the Broonie about him perhaps. Don’t take it the wrong way if we don’t get a single smile out of him while he’s on the pitch.

  8. St Tams,

When asked about a defensive mid,Ange replied”Nah mate, not my style”.

You might have a long wait.

  9. Tom McLaughlin on

    ST TAMS

Mooy might not be a defensive midfielder per se, but he is a midfielder and he can tackle. He can also run with the ball and make a pass.

  10. ST TAMS on 18TH JULY 2022 8:50 AM

Not convinced that Mooy is the defensive midfielder that we’re needing.

No suprise there St.Tams, you have still to be convinced by Ange.take yir time noo..:-)

  11. According to E-Tims the new financial fair play directives from UEFA makes it against the rules to be funded buy soft loans… No idea if this is correct but if it is then it may make things a bit nervy for a certain Glasgow club.

  12. are we a stronger team, even with the same players, well yes we are, cos Ange says so.

    —————–

Ange Postecoglou predicts Celtic transfer acceleration as he insists star man Jota’s ceiling is limitless

The Parkhead gaffer believes they’ve signed a better player this summer than the one who arrived on loan from Benfica

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou says £6 million winger Jota can take his game to another level at Celtic this season.

The Parkhead gaffer believes they’ve signed a better player this summer than the one who arrived on loan from Benfica a year ago. After the Portuguese star impressed in a 2-2 friendly draw against Blackburn Rovers, Postecolgou heaped praise on his wide man.

And ahead of their Premiership title defence and a crack at the Champions League group stage, the Hoops boss insists there’s no limit to how good he can be. Postecoglou said: “There’s no ceiling to Jota’ s potential. He was very good today. The attacking players rely on feeling fresh with their athleticism and their speed. I know people said we re-signed two players in Jota and Cameron Carter-Vicker s this summer. But I think we’ve signed two better players than we had last year. That’s why we brought them in. There’s no reason why Jota can’t go further and take his game to another level.

  13. DAVID66…

    Get well soon mate.

I hope that ” Our AARON” is better than that other “Aaron” that was a Hun ?

    LOL.

    HH.

  14. Mooy is 31, a year older than Biton

He plays in a variety of positions in midfield, but for Australia recently, in crucial games, he’s been playing as the 1 in a 4-1-4-1

If he plays there it allows Calmac to play further up the pitch

Steven Davies played 39 games for them in a domestic season as a 35/36 year old in a similar position

He will improve our squad, and even our team in the SPL.

A one year deal with an option makes it as risk free as you’ll get

Greetings from McKinnons bar. A few beers then a leisurely stroll to Paradise. You can never have enough good times.

  16. Speaking to Celtic TV after the match, the manager said: “It was not too bad. I thought the first half was good in terms of our competitiveness and our performance, both teams were at it and we conceded early but then we got a good grip of the game.

“In the second half it got scrappy but both teams made a lot of substitutions so it’s hard to get into the rhythm for the players coming on.

“So the second half wasn’t great as an overall exercise but that’s the challenge of these games.

“I thought the first half was reflective of the work we’ve done so far, but we’re still two weeks away from the season.

‘We did a lot of work in Austria and here in Scotland and it’s now about getting the guys in the best possible physical condition for the first game.’

“That means working hard in training and we showed in the first half we’re going well and the work we’re doing will bear fruit.”

“We want as a group to be ready to go when we play Aberdeen here. How we get to that space is up to us.

“There’s a lot of time to prepare with a few good solid weeks already in the bag and we have two more weeks now to get ready.”

  17. In Ange’s team, every player is an attacker and a defender, even the Goalie! por cierto

  18. i took a trip to the east end yesterday, I wanted to take a good look at whats going on. A field trip if you like, with some site survey to go with it, and a wee look at structures and buildings,

Sure its Fair Sunday and the hottest day of the year, what do we expect to see in the worlds most friendliest city.

I started in the city centre, along clyde street, the hotel developments come along at a good pace, 4 more big names coming and the customhouse repurposed and looking grand in the sunshine.

The Barclays development at tradeston, superb transformative.

The clyde side strip of grass was busy, all the pubs equally so, the area around st enochs busy with kids

    going to the fair.

Pass the Shipbank doors open, suprised to see a fella with an orange away top on, covered by a jacket but still, maybe Jimmy knows this guy.

Round Charlottes street, I always think of the Marists here and Walfrid pacing up to Brigton and his teaching duties.

Up the Gallowgate, the former Bairds all cafe continental, St Lukes even more so , busy again.

All around glasgow green really busy, was cinnamon on last nioght ?

So all areas busy with people, tourists, students,

Up the London road, Bridgeton lless so, some of the pavement pirates outside their ugly dens.

Celtic park awaits. The shop is opened, but only 6 cars, The school car park maybe 40 or so.

I wander up the way, looking at structure, steel, panels, I think the banners are down to let works on them happen, there is evidence of sections being cleaned and replaced, sure some junctions have rusted over time, but not enough to be totally replaced. Normal maintainece would cover that.

It is funny looking at the stadium without the now so familier banners, I hope they are retunred cleaned up and fresh.

So, too the footprint, all those acres, can they turn a profit on match days and beyond, temporary structures seem sound until its a freezing snow mid winter windy night, how attractive then ? Sure for a Champions league game, less so for a raith rovers at home league cup quarter final.

Brings us to the biggest issue, not celtic not wanting a fanzone, but GCC and councillers continued opposition to anything proposed.

All that land, once built on, where do the supporters busses and cars relocate to ?

The area for hotel and museum, it is the best orientation and positioning proposed. Would I build it without a partner operating it, well no.

The corner parcel at London Road, Springfiels road, across from the Vaults, something is going on, its enclosed and boarded, looks like ground works, but on checking it has been zoned for hoteland retail linked to the emirates, but various propsals have been withdrawn over time, that tells me feasablity studies have decided a hotel is not viable so far up the east end. 3 miles from the city centre, you could as well be in cambuslang.

As an aside all the residential going up, I like the brick the styles , the block on springfield junction is nice, those at the cattle market also, and all along the terry tattoo witevale/bluevale area, all nice,

    come back to that later.

Out to Barrowfield, no access , but can see through the fences,

This desire to be there, have b games, youth games, ladies games, for me the investment is overly sentimental , sure we improve the space, and a spiritual home but on any given day, will it earn anything for us ? Build it, they still wont come.

I asked over and over who goes and sees any of these games now ? Why would it change if its in the east end.

BTW, the social club, it literally was one man and his dug,

    Now back to the forge.

Did you know Tesco super store is now closed ? A favourite haunt of the wandering parents and kids pre match has gone, Massive retail gap , massive impact to the east end, it easily will have supported 300 jobs, all gone,

The reason ……… its a loss making store.

Let that sink in. Massive footprins square feet yes, but even Tesco could get enough footfall to save it, attempts to downsize met with reluctant landlord, I am told from someone in the know, Tesco wanted a massive rent free period to stay on. The financialcs couldnt work for the landlord, better to moth ball.

Maybe it could be repurposed as an indoor football park ?

If celtic want to operate a hotel, do it elsewhere. The east end , even with celtic park as the hub, and even with the emirates hosing events, for me the demand doesnt match any investment.

Maybe rebuild the main stand aye (btw Crystal palace, £120m and rising for a 10,000 seater which has been delayed any number of time)

The mythical football tuorist doesnt exist in any great volume outside london or madrid or barcelona.

Glasgow is the destination people come to, Celtic park aye for a mathc or a look see, but anything else, its a real stretch.

As an aside, need to find out what is being built behind saint marys, only got a drive past, but something is going up right on top of celtics birthplace.

  19. !!Bada Bing!! on

Good experienced player, i wouldn’t be against getting a CB of a similar age, specially if he’s got CL games on his CV

  20. BTW, in typical short sighted board couldnt care less about the supporters, on the hottest day of the year there wasnt even an ice cream van on the celtic way,

    or a gazebo

    SAINT STIVS

Thanks for that. Very interesting read.

Our supporters bus parks in the Jock Stein bus park which leaves us with a short walk to tbe turnstiles. Getting out of the area after the game is problematic but we can’t have everything. Any thoughts of getting rid of the bus park and building something else won’t go down well, especially as it also accommodates disabled supporters.

    Mooy?

    Who knows?

He’ll either be good or he won’t.

Don’t remember him being a “tackler” per se?

Do recall him closing down the opposition effectively and taking the ball either in contact or in tight space and getting simple forward passes away.

    On that limited basis alone?

    Am quite hopeful

  23. Saint Stivs

Reading your account I was thinking ‘ that’s a fair walk’ – only for you to reveal at the end it was a road trip – lightweight 🤭

  24. Tom McLaughlin on

One minor but useful improvement I noticed on Saturday was the increased font size on the big scoreboards.

From the Jock Stein lower I could now clearly read the score, time and minutes played on the Lisbon Lions scoreboard.

    Hallelujah.

    Absolutely scorching in Edinburgh.

    Beach Bar is calling me.

  26. No nothing of mooy, but ange knows him, mooy knows ange and both know what is expected. Mooy knows the style and shape the manager uses should make for an easy adjustment. A free agent for 1 year and a year option seems like a win win for us. Like all signings it will come down to how he preforms individually and how we preform as a team. Mccarthy likely to see even less game if mooy comes in an you do wonder how long before he is transferred/loaned out.

I canny walk from Tesco car park to the ground.

Seriously considering joining bishopton CSC for upcoming season

You should have given me a shout and I would have come in and met up with you

Dragged kicking and screaming to Auld Reekie to see an artistic p/point on VVG.

They certainly know how to wring the cloth dry.

Fair attempt at a here and now view of what is going on in the East End.

However it does not tell the full story and reflects old school / pre CoViD thinking.

I do have to wonder why you are so negative — to you nothing new will work.

Not sure why you don’t want to offer alternatives / different angles rather than a total rejection that quickly descends to sarcasm and abuse — are you PL’s point man on CQN — asking for a friend?

First rule of business — if you want to shoot the duck you aim ahead of the duck.

Target not what has been possible in the past / possible today but what could be possible tomorrow.

Main Stand @ CrP = big smoke build costs in play in a frothy market.

Tesco shutting down = Poor location vs local Asda / Morrisons and a Tesco clone too close in Rutherglen.

Barras = Being transformed in a 100 different ways — it will hit us soon enough.

Dennistoun = Duke Street is on the up so why not the Gallowgate.

Tourist trap — P/head vs Louden Tavern?

AP has moved us to a new level regarding interest from far away places.

We need to engage with his ambition and work towards delivering proper facilities.

The new road — EERR? — has provided us with a corner that we need to dominate.

The current arrangement of a posh portakabin holding the ticket office is derisory.

We own our surroundings — it is up to us to maximise the utility of that area to the benefit of the club and the fans. Our current efforts are shameful and reek of the old board and their lack of ambition / desire / forward thinking.

Who will be our FMcC Mk2?

We desperately need to find him quick.

Our efforts — or lack of them — shame our efforts on the park.

  29. Huns get easiest draw possible.

    Union pub team from Belgium

    First leg away

Anyone who thinks this is not important for Celtic needs to go back to school.

Are all the car parks behind the JS Stand in use now?

2020 and the one next to the Cheese Factory was closed off when I last went passed.

Amenity block behind the JS Stand — you can build up the way and leave room for existing car usage.

Regarding the buses — what did we do before we cleared the land?

We seem to have use of the Emirates Overflow car park now.

Bus parking = can be fixed.

  31. Belgian team — On the up / desperate to play in the CL.

Not an easy game — they will want it as much as our friends in Govan.

  32. MM

I saw the same vvg power point last year in York. I take your point.
