    I only intended to walk from the Merchant city to the nearest “Chippy” at the top of the Saltmarket, and have a sit down meal. Its a short walk for a heathy person and much too short to hire a Taxi. After that I would have walked the rest of the way to my Hoose or the Shipbank Pub. i planned to try and walk from the Chippy as again its too short a distance to get a Taxi.

     

    Sadly, the Chippy looks as though it has closed down ( Maybe due to Covid and lack of business ?), but I didnt know that, as I havent passed by that Chippy for quite a while.

     

    So I was literally ” Forced” to walk the whole way, although I did have to STOP on numerous occasions before i made it to the Shipbank……

     

    It nearly done me in !

    I’m reading back over the blog and having a smile about the complaints over MadMitch’s use of initials instead of names in his posts.

     

     

    I’m a 71 year old who is trying to keep my brain as active as possible. I love puzzles: The Herald crossword and Sudoku, Wordle and Quordle ……… and trying to get to the bottom of MadMitch’s posts.

     

     

    I can usually work out who the player is but MM sometimes throws me by putting in a position such as DM and I try to work out who he is talking about only to realise he means a Defensive Midfielder.

     

     

    If you’re looking in MM, I hope you don’t change your writing style. 😄

    These figures can’t be true.Far too successful for a club like ours,who according to many,have been failures,led by failures,managed by a few failres,in fact just totally mismanaged.

    We had one of the highest paid CEOs in world football for many years.

     

    To justify this, obviously we must have reached a few of either finals, semi finals or quarter finals in Europe to justify this.

     

    Can you give the years that this happened?

    Our European record under him is dreadful overall.

     

    He had a novel idea of brining in players AFTER we were knocked out of the biggest competition of the season.

    Toronto FC, struggling in the MLS, have signed Italian internationalists Insigne and Bernadeschi.

     

     

    The standard of play in the MLS is going up in leaps and bounds, but I wonder where the money is coming from to sign players such as these, Givinco, Chiellini and Gareth Bale? Beckham has previously indicated he will go after players like Suarez, Cavani, Messi and Neymar for Inter Miami as opportunities arise. Despite their age, these players’ wages will not be cheap.

    I’ll be curious to see whether Ajax play Bassey in the Lisandro Martinez center back role. The latter will be a big loss to them, but I struggle to think he is worth £57M. The EPL ( and Man U ) again distorting the market.

    There is a trend right now where scottish based players are starting to generate decent transfer fees. For to long we have undervalued players cause their are playing in scotland. Aberdeen just sold and 18 year old for up to 7 million pounds ffs.

     

     

    I can well see sevco getting 15 plus million for bassey. They will invest as they see fit and we can only focus on us. Couple of things its actually positive that this trend is taking place for all scottish çlubs not least us when you have a wee look at a lot of our players. Also I sevco are gonna push hard then celtic will have to respond accordingly.

     

     

    We have a good squad of players who are settled into the club and know how we play, every player we have and would like to keep is tied down to long term contracts. What price JJ, CCV, jota, abada, o’reily, kayogo GG etc??? Ange has clearly said more quality players are on route.

    Turnbull has less than 2 years left on his contract. Same date as Bassey. Same age as Ajer when we sold him.

     

     

    We need to extend that contract and have a plan this summer or sell him. Appreciate he was absent for 4 months last season so think it’ll be the former not the latter unless Moyes follows as rumoured. But at some point we need to have a trigger that helps deliver for the club either on the field or on the balance sheet.
