    Good night all

We are living in special times , enjoy every second of them.

    Hail Hail

  2. Frank Bruno was asked if he thought his next opponent, Mike Tyson, was invincible. Frank looked puzzled before replying. ” Of course `e ain`t. I can see `im.”

    MWD,

For funks sakes….don’t be giving the FTSFA any ideas about a handicap system (on top of their MIBS)….we’ll only win the league by 10 points ;-))

  4. PRIVILEGED

    Describes how I feel.

Lucky enough to have seen a couple of games during our run in to secure the double in season 1953/54.

Johnny Higgins, Bobby Evans, Charlie Tully, Jock Stein, Sean Fallon, Willie Fernie, Bobby Collins are all early heroes of mine.

The long lean years followed unfortunately until we secured the 65/66 title with a final day late late goal at Fir Park in front of a rapturous crowd which over spilled on to the roof. I kid you not.

Mr Stein’s first full season saw us win the title for the first time in 12 years, lose to Liverpool in the Cup Winners’ Cup semi final when Lennox was wrongly ruled offside when he scored the vital away goal, and then lose to a heartbreaking Kai Johansen goal in the cup final replay.

And of course 66/67 is well documented.

Coincidentally 25th May 1967 was a holiday of obligation for us fans of a certain faith.

    Corpus Christi.

25th May 50 years later is also a holiday of obligation.

    Ascension Thursday.

    Coincidence or divine providence?

So having just celebrated my 70th birthday I can now add the unbeaten league season to my memory bank.

    PRIVILEGED.

  5. Once again Brendan made the right sub at half time – changed the shape changed the game

Isn’t it 19* over there this evening?

Missus & I were just discussing whether to pack anything warmer than the hoops :-)

  8. Thanks Willie for the reply, for what it’s worth I agree, we will be closer to the best in Europe next year, hoping we can make progress for the next few seasons.

  9. GG,

I am a couple of years younger than your goodself. So, I can’t remember seeing Johnny Higgins playing. But he was one of my Dad’s favourite players. Kicked out of the game by Shearer, I think. The first player I know I saw is Bobby Collins because when the crowd started calling for the “wee barra” I tried my hardest but couldn’t spot any barrow! I was 3 or4. Bobby Evans was my early favourite, with Dunky Mackay.

Given our invincible season and due to the rest not being responsible for their lack of competition I believe every Celtic player should from this day forward wear 5Kg weights round each ankle in the interest of fairness and fair play.

    Wot yoos funk?

    —————————————–

We already operate under an efficient handicapping system courtesy of the SFA, cal “referees”…..

  11. GG

Motherwell – I think that only a 4-0 loss would have seen us loose the league that day

  12. Natknow

It’s obvious though that the current systems requires assistance.

That old long established system only works when we are averagely better.

    What about 1900’s footy boots?

    Corkcelt ….

Since the first post u ever made you flounced (I thought it was me around Christmas time) I hope your better half had a great day, but as a 46+ year old I would like to ask you a question, how do you rate this season ? For me the centenary season was magical but what are your thoughts ?

  15. LET THE PEOPLE SING

As we gather in the chapel here in old Kilmainham Jail

I think about these past few weeks, oh will they say we’ve failed

From our schooldays they have told us we must yearn for liberty

Yet all I want in this dark place is to have you here with me.

    CHORUS

Oh Grace just hold me in your arms ad let this moment linger

They’ll take me out at dawn and I will die

With all my love I place this wedding ring upon your finger

There won’t be time to share our love for we must say goodbye.

Now I know it’s hard for you my love to ever understand

The love I bear for these brave men, my love for this dear land

But when the Padhraic called me to his side down in the GPO

I had to leave my own sick bed, to him I had to go CHORUS

Now as dawn is breaking, my heart is breaking too,

On this May morn as I walk out my thoughts well be of you

And I’ll write some words upon the wall so everyone will know

I love so much that I could see his blood upon the rose

  16. LurkinTim

    Fair is fair.

We can’t be sane to embarass our competition.

Celtic should never be a team whom our competitors should strive to improve to close the GAP.

We should be the team no one fears playing and at worst just better than the rest.

    MWD

  17. Dunky McKay

A great full back and captain.

I believe the first attacking, footballing full back I saw.

He left just before Jock Stein arrived.

He would have perfectly balanced Tommy G’s marauding style.

Not that Jim Craig failed in that respect,

  18. Jimmynotpaul on

    Althetim.

    Poor post.

    Today Celtic become invincible.

Then you come on greeting and swearing.

Where have you been all season?

  19. Mrs Gene has just shouted through to my man cave “you’re no watching that game again” just as the 67th minute was on – well what can you say

  20. Gerry,

Up to now my best season was Seville but if we win the Cup next week it will be replaced by the current one.

What really has me buzzing is that I think we can get better. Would love if we could hold on to Paddy Roberts & tie down Armstrong on a new deal.

Two quality players in & a right crack at the Europeans is on the cards.

  22. Today was history, mark it down, we may not see that again.

We remembered our history, our Lions and we had hero’s of today go out and create some more history.

Legends then and now, a historic day.

We will talk about this day for generations to come.

  23. Gene

    You’re not wrong.

I just checked the final league table.

We finished with 57 points and a Goal Average of 3.53.

Rangers (RIP) as they were known then, had 55 points and a GA of 3.14.

BTW we scored 106 goals and only conceded 30.

GD of 76. Not too shabby.

  24. Gerryfaethebrig on

    Corkcelt 9.43pm

I didn’t make Seville, it still haunts me, Brendan is special, I love him, sometimes it’s not the guys on the park it’s the work behind the scenes, Chris Davies is amazing…….

We are experiencing good Celtic times, but we will never forget the bad times …..

Give that good lady of yours a big birthday kiss from ML5 :-)

  25. GG,

Yes, I often think Dunky Mackay could have been a great. I loved Paddy Crerand too. Could he pass a ball!! Almost as good as my all time favourite: Charlie Gallagher.

  26. Gerry,

To be fair, we were sat on the rooftop terrace of our hotel :-)

Now down at ground level, and it’s vety pleasant. Mrs BB has taken her coat off so it must be reasonably warm

  27. GG

It sticks in the mind as if it were yesterday. We came back to Glasgow on the train and a few hundred of us started marching to george square – much to the annoyance of pc plod – great day as today

  28. TheLurkinTim on

    Corkcelt,

Not forgetting Ryan Christie & Ajer have to return….both playing brilliantly by all accounts….plus some young Bhoys coming through….the future’s bright….the future’s green & white ;-))

I think we are in for a period of unsurpassed domestic domination….the rest of the league will just have to try to keep up….no doubt with our fringe players enhancing them….leeches;-))
