No amount of promotion would have got me to pay eighty quid for tickets for yesterday.

Prices for competitive games were the same or less over last couple of years.

20 quid a ticket for a 5.30 kick off, live tv friendly game is overpriced imo.

Never went to the game yesterday. Drove up to the caravan in drizzly Inveraray to visit my 2 ghirls and grandweans. We had a great day cheering on the Bhoys, however. Nice link on my daughter’s laptop to tv. Will catch J soon.

    Nothing to wonder about.

    My point exactly

As a global brand we are diminishing on an annual basis.

The few chances we have to illustrate our potential should be seized by our club.

Every few million counts just as every eyeball watching Celtic and being in awe of our great stadium and fanbase around the world counts.

More Dortmund fans in Shanghai than Celtic fans at Celtic yesterday is not so good for our long term involvement.

There would have definitely been more Dortmund fans watching on TV of course.

    We have few enough opportunities.

Sadly even if it is a not very important game.

There is no integrity to be found in FIFA, UEFA, SFA or Celtic.

    Its all about money. Yours.

You have all been Rodgered :)

Half arsed attempts by CQN’rs and others to jump on the res12’rs coat tails of integrity after ignoring it for 3 years under the auspices of “see Celtic do care” is one of the most repugnant episodes its been my misfortune to witness.

The “Timerity” of it. Milked by a smug manipulative board and back to the huns that love to sodomize you.

Is yesterday’s game being shown on Celtic TV today? I thought there was a 24 hour delay but I don’t see it on the website. Anyone?

  10. Not so long ago we were told that The Great Desmondo had splashed out on signing a big name manager because he had been affronted by the behaviour of the huns’ directors.

I’m beginning to think that it was maybe more to with concerns about the take up of season books.

    and who told us that?

  16. ROBERTTRESSELL on 24TH JULY 2016 9:12 AM

There’s a thesis waiting to be written on bias in the Scottish media. Maybe someone studying media, journalism, perhaps sociology.

Analyse the language used in headlines and articles in various outlets about Scottish football clubs, their players, fans, staff, ex employees, facilities, stadia etc etc compare and contrast and see what you come up with.

Probably best done in a uni outside of Scotland though!

Today’s reporting would be a good place to start.

    ———————————

Having lived in Australia, South Africa, and also now the USA for some time I’ve often noted the stark differences that Scotland generates in the press with regard to the mentality and attitudes journalists portray towards sporting culture and particularly their athletes.

The three countries above encourage, support and are instrumental in developing young bodies and minds to excel. Errors and misjudgements on the field are dismissed as merely a learning process, and “nae bother, you’ve got this next time son” prevails. Any talent is nurtured, and fragile young minds are protected in the main, shielding them from undue negativity.

Compare that with the sporting headlines in Scotland we see continually. Young people are sucked into red top gutter coverage, with these rags desperate to maintain their unique brand of hysteria.

If you want to study a recent case in point, compare Scottish headlines on Newsnow Celtic covering Tom Rogic, with similar articles on him ba ck home in his native Oz. Makes for interesting reading.

  17. ERNIELYNCH@7:10

The bottom line is that we secured a top-rated, EPL experienced, manager, who also happens to be a life-long Celtic fan.

I am sure that if the support had produced a box-ticking exercise to choose our next manager, these qualities would be among the most desired.

Therein lies the reasoning behind the upsurge in ST sales – second guessing the motivation of DD is a waste of time, and in any case, why wouldn’t the top man not give supporters what they want, if it was affordable and in his gift?

    —————-

It’s an interesting post, not one quote from the great desmondo yet here we are.

Same with those that say PL made signings but has now been sidelined – who to believe??

  22. The biggest trick Celtic PLC is missing is giving as wide a section of the fanbase as possible an input, financially and in other ways.

Auldheid did some work on this a few years back relating to the Celtic diaspora. Some of that I think resulted in overseas season books. But those of us outside Scotland, perhaps even outside the greater Glasgow/ Lanarkshire/ Dumbartonshire/ Renfrewshire area and even within that area, are not being tapped in to enough.

If you can’t go to games all the time, can’t afford or justify a SB I firmly believe that there are large numbers of Celtic minded people who would jump at the chance of a genuine Barca style ‘membership’ scheme. An automatic right for shareholder/ SB holders and available for, say £10 a month for others, less for unemployed, oaps, school kids, students. A membership card and a say in running the club in some way, is all the return it should ensure. But it would need to be seen as a badge of honour to be a card carrying, signed up Celtic supporter all over the world.

I posted similar maybe 6 years ago or longer.

The suits need to learn that real buy in from supporters requires real opportunity to contribute beyond season books and match day tickets. We are not and never will be ‘clients/customers etc’. The massive generations old pull that Celtic has on us makes us want an input and makes us want to contribute. I’d be paying three of four memberships for my household tomorrow if such a scheme existed. I can think of a dozen people who would do likewise without having to think too much about it.

    Just a thought.

  23. Where does it say that there were more Dortmund fans in Shanghai than Celtic fans at Celtic Park? I watched part of that match yesterday and it looked highly stage managed. There was a section of Chinese fans all dressed exactly the same in Dortmund colours and a similar section dressed exactly the same in Man Utd colours. The cameras focused mainly on these two sections with occasional shots of European supporters of Dortmund (in the main) and United wearing an assortment of tops. It certainly didn’t look as if there were more Dortmund fans at the game than Celtic fans at Celtic Park especially if you don’t count the Chinese fans.

  24. Dermot Desmond brought in Brendan because he could.

It may have been driven by many things,

a protection of his investment or an emotional decision? Your call.

A GIRUY to the Orcs or a statement of intent? Again ,your call

The correct football decision or just a rich man helping out a man looking for a high profile job? Your guess is as good as mine.

Whatever the motivation, it has worked so far. Season book sales are up and Celtic are higher profile. Despite the MSM spin, it would appear that Warburton is stuck up here until he walks or he wins the league. No progressive club in England has tested the water with an approach for him. We should, repeat should, win the domestic treble and then the only way the MSM can batter our club is by showing up our shortcomings in Europe.

If , as I expect and hope, we win a treble and have a good crack at the EL, Brendan will be a hero here and his reputation restored. Nobody will question the motives of DD then because it will be part two of the job done.

After that it will be a task to keep Brendan here and maintain the momentum, but that is a concern for other times.

A good thought. Season cards get left behind the bar in my local when someone canny make the match. A coupla pints is the usual reward fae the guy who uses the card.

  26. Sin City Bhoy – thanks for replying to that. It’s a huge frustration and damaging in so far as it gets in to the psyche of some young players and a great number of fans. I would implore tims to dismiss the great majority of ‘reporting’ of Celtic in the mainstream on that basis.

There’s lies, damned lies and the SMSM

Curious that some regard that as either anti Celtic or anti The Great Desmondo.

It could have been written by Celtic’s legendary PR department.

    Really?

    first line:

“It might be no surprise that the catalyst for Celtic’s recruitment of Brendan Rodgers was Rangers”

What’s curious is a celtic supporter believing an article from the mainstream media thats main premise is a complete guess about dd’s intentions. I thought we all knew better than that by now. Unless of course it suits to make exceptions

My point is proven about the Scottish press.

The Scotsman is a rag supposedly published to the more cerebral.

And here is a punter who swallows the story hook, line and lead, and is regurgitating it on the blog disguised as some mythical fact in his own mind.
