Covering Emilio, Ledley returns

507

Delighted Joe Ledley got on the score sheet twice yesterday.  As well as missing the influence of Wanyama, and Scott Brown on Champions League duty, Joe’s absence through injury has been felt.  He has been back a few weeks now but Neil Lennon has used him sparingly, putting a lot of responsibility on the shoulders of Beram Kayal and Charlie Mulgrew.  For me, Joe’s composure and running deserves place in the team.

Ross County have dropped like a stone recently, even when you consider their abandoned matches, but they successfully pressed high up the field for long periods of the game.  When Celtic do this in Europe we are always concerned about opposing teams passing through us with speed.  It was a bit concerning that we could not do the same to County.

The most pleasing aspect of the game was the performance of Emilio Izaguirre.  Neil Lennon went on record in the summer to say he needed cover for left back, which is still the case, but at the time ‘cover’ was interpreted in places for an admission that Emilio’s form was not what it once was.

We are incredibly strong at right back, with internationals Adam Matthews and Mikel Lustig vying for the position, while Nigeria’s right back, Efe Ambrose, occupies a different position at Celtic, but Emilio has no obvious left-footed cover.

Following the loss of St John Doyle, George Ryan, Lennybhoy sent £1534.30 on your behalf to the Mini St John Doyle Fund, now officially launched as Sean’s Trust.  George’s wife, Linda, responded with this message:

“George’s fantastic friends at Celtic Quick News have this evening donated £1,534.30 into the account for our charity Sean’s Trust. This money has been raised since George’s death on 5 October. Also they paid for 4 seats at Celtic Park for the family to attend the Ajax game, and sent beautiful floral tributes.

“Most of the supporters on CQN had never met George in person. Paul Brennan from CQN visited me after George’s death and he said ‘It takes a lifetime to make a Celtic Man like George’ What a beautiful tribute. We are grateful for the immense effort you have all made in memory of George. We will never forget you x.”

There are never any real compensations on occasions of such loss, but your efforts connected with, and supported, a family, at a time when that was as much as anyone could do for them.

Thank you to everyone who participated, especially Lennybhoy, for picking up the ball.

If we ain’t going near Finboggasson in January , how about the lad May at St Johnstone.?

Mighty impressed by him as well as Armstrong at D UTD .

Might be worth a pop he knows his way to the net, although he does have undignified hair.

The current narrative on the UEFA licence issue is that questions were asked and answers given that could not be challenged by Celtic without calling the SFA and or Rangers liars without the proof to back it up.

Without such proof Celtic are powerless. But information creeping into the sphere of public awareness causing a focus allows a different narrative to be presented as set out at

    http://www.tsfm.org.uk/2013/10/beware-the-angry-shareholders-they-might-just-demand-an-answer/comment-page-45/#comment-72720 to emerge.

The issue is whether this narrative will at the very least warrant some investigation to see if it stands up and if it does not, just where it falls down in a much ado about nothing scenario.

Assurances that all was handled properly , unless that can be demonstrated by evidence contrary or countering the emerging evidence, simply will not cut it.

The world and its wean knows of the other narrative and pretending it does not exist without debunking it is asking for trouble and the only way to debunk the narrative is to look at the emerging evidence and see where it fails to support the narrative that challenges the SFA’s.

This is the issue. The other stuff on what DD wants or the ill reasoned case that Celtic want Rangers back for financial reasons is Celtic Quack News that flat earth thinkers cling to for fear of falling off.

  6. Slightly off topic but I seem to remember an interview with Bruce Forsyth saying Celine Dion cheated his daughter out of winning a singing competition! Thought it hilarious at the time but the guy was raging, anyone remember it? I know she is Canadian but was it the Eurothingy?

I’ll get my coat, if I find it I will post it.

Armstrong looks a player but he’d end up on our bench and have all of the good attacking instincts coached out of him. Also, is he any better than Rogic, Biton, Twardzyk, Henderson or does he just get more game time?

The one SPFL player we should break the bank for is Ryan Gauld, looks a special talent and attacking midfield playmaker is the position we desperately need someone to fill.

If our experienced strikers aren’t scoring then should we not be giving Atajic et al a run out …Stokes and Pukki have been playing for hours without scoring

The young ref at the 16s game was asked how long to go? Minute and a half he said which I thot odd.

A full 8 minutes later and a lot of Aberdeen pressure for an eeky he finally blue!!! The Celtic dug out were going mental.

    Cowiebhoy Ta for asking btw.

  17. Old mate of mine, Jimmy Hendry from Ruchazie, used to do the stadium tours in the early 90s……A bigger Celtic fanatic and more encyclopaedic knowledge of our history would have been hard to find anywhere.

Would love to think Auld Jimmy was still involved doing the tours in some capacity.

Great guy and such enthusiasm about what he did.

i agree with the vast majority of what the force you have garnered are trying to do. I share the suspicion that somehow we will be denied clarity, however I do not believe for a moment that Celtic ( the board) see that lot as our financial saviours, what a delicious irony that would be. The mob that stole from us being seen as our cash cow? Aye right! The financial future of our club lies outwith the bigot pound and thank God for that.

  19. Playing for Augsburg (13th out of 18 in the Bundesliga), André Hahn is a midfielder who seems to have been pushed further forward in the last few weeks. As a result he has scored 4 goals in his last 6 games for his relatively lowly club, and some of them have been high quality finishes, with either foot. His movement is very good and he certainly lets his team-mates know where he wants the ball played to, which, allied to a great awareness of where the opposition players are, makes the job of putting the ball in the net easier.

He is only in his second season in the German top flight, but he seems to have adjusted to the level now and could be tempted by a move to a Champions League club that might enhance his chances of winning a move to the EPL.

His overall return (as a midfielder) is a goal for every 6½ appearances (some of these are sub appearances), which isn’t bad.

I certainly think he would give us more strength in depth in midfield, helping to avoid situations like last week, when we were left seriously understrength in the middle in a crucial CL game. But whether he would be prepared to join Celtic (playing in the SPL) without being virtually guaranteed to play in every match, I don’t know.

And we still need a goal scoring striker…

  24. tommytwiststommyturns supporting Wee Oscar on

Auldheid – I’m sure our board aren’t interested in pursuing the matter, but if there’s even the slightest hint of doubt over the licence, then the club should hand it over to The City of London Police.

Kit asked about that a number of times on here and they are the investigating body if there’s any suspicion of defrauding a plc. Any avenues for the fans to take this forward if the club don’t?

As ever, it would be perceived as an attack on THEM, but ultimately it’s about proving that the SFA is not fit for purpose and needs wholesale re-structuring.
