  1. HOT SMOKED

It refers to the CQN’ers who post on here that Broony is past, or well past his best.

At 36 there is a limit to his physical performance.

    There must be.

Broony is a Celtic Legend, one of of our greatest sons and has rightly earned a wonderful reputation as a footballer, captain and Celt.

But, time waits for no man, Broony included, sadly.

  2. MAD MITCH,

I know your last post was your opinion.

My opinion,is,you are talking mainly mince.

First time you put on something positive, will be the first.Change the record.

    An observation from yesterday’s match:

We appear to be planning to play a one-off knockout Euro qualifying tie with Nir Bitton at centre half. That’s a reliable method of converting bums into button manufacture.

Also, we have just one left back – assuming Boli’s Celtic career is toast.

`It refers to the CQN’ers who post on here that Broony is past, or well past his best.`

    OK. Thanks.

  5. THE BATTERED BUNNET

WE can always play Calmac at left back………………..if we’re stuck!

  6. SFTB @ 11.40

Every serial winner has to say good-bye at some point.

The point is not if — it is when and how.

We can carry a limited player in a strong team — happens all the time.

However we cannot carry a talent on the decline in a weak MF within a poorly set up team.

He is 35 and he is a 35 year old who has to pay as the bite and the legs / cover in a poorly functioning MF — that is a recipe for failure and I don’t want to see him fail.

  7. PHILBHOY,

What was it you saw from Broony yesterday, that gave you the impression that he no longer has it.

Really interested, because total opposite to what I watched.Maybe I AM missing something.

  8. TURKEYBHOY

I’m going on what some posters are saying on CQN, which I said in an earlier post.

  9. TBB

    `..

    converting bums into button manufacture.`

    :-))))

Even so, I feel more confident/relaxed/secure in Bitton than I do in Jullien,

The NB at CB pantomime — it is an Aug staple at CP.

Three years on the trot now — the only thing that changes is the reason.

Huffs / dodgy knees / suspensions / players hiding on the bench because of a potential transfer.

    Usual stuff in Paradise …

  11. Philbhoy 12.08pm

MM…when John Smith’s death came over the radio I was driving down to the Borders. I was so stunned and saddened I had to pull over into a lay-by for a wee moment to let it sink in. I first met him in 1992 at Keir Hardy house. He was accompanied by a wee toothy guy who, to me, didn’t look anything like a Labour man. Of course, that was Tony Blair. I also paid a visit to his grave on Iona.

Re Jim Sillars, I met him also in ’92 when he lost his Govan seat. I thought he came across as a real Labour man. I remember his comment that Scots were 90 minute patriots…made me smile.

Not long ago he said this, ““The cult of personality, the obsessive desire of leaders for complete control of the membership and parliamentarians, the growth of a clique of acolytes, one-person rule – there has been a rot growing at the heart of this organisation for years.”

You know the organisation he was referring to…

  18. MAD MITCH,

You know, one of the greatest German teams, was Captained by Lothar Matteus,a phenomenal midfielder. In his later years,he moved back to “Sweeper”at the age of around 35.He went on to excel there again. His passing out from the back being his strongest point, and reading of the game.Small guy, useless in the air,but his other qualities made him a standout.I agree we need a CH,but that in no way should take away from the performances of Biton, who,IMHO,is growing into the role excellently. His passing out from the back yesterday, was a joy to behold. There is a place for bruisers, and a place for footballers.

  19. Whatever system we play we need to play faster and move into space the amount of times our wing backs pass the ball inside or back indicates to me players are not advancing into positions ahead of the ball, we can actually be 30 yds inside the opposition half and 2 passes later its back with Jullien or Bitton, it is woeful slow predictable ball retention football with no threat, granted the team may lack fitness due to sombrero sam but we need to get moving pronto.

  20. Deary me,The Herald reporting that we will be “Tested”by a 30 million bid for Eddy.Meanwhile,Leeds will come back in with a 14 million bid for The Banjo playing Redneck.

  21. GuyFawkesaforeverhero on

Events could show me to be wrong but I don’t think Ajer started on the bench yesterday because he was being protected ahead of a potential transfer.

The team selected made me think he, Forrest and Elhamed are preferred starters on Wednesday. League games are of lower priority than CL qualifiers. Lenny likely didn’t want to use Kris or James to secure the points. When push came to shove, I’m glad he did.

Taylor’s running power makes him an automatic pick for now while he’s fit and able. The squad teased him about his lockdown 5km time. That earned him dressing room respect.

I’m in the camp of Scott Brown doesn’t just form our impregnable wall, he is our impregnable wall.

  22. weebobbycollins on

I think Broony will be involved right up to lifting the the 10th title. He deserves to. He can then start winding down, eventually becoming a coach. Our coach? Who knows…

  23. I posted earlier that I think Callum is playing deeper ,- maybe to help Broonie – any thoughts

  24. Gene 1.04pm

Maybe learning Broonys role for the future … pretty sure 7 or 8 years ago Broony started learning the role ..

Really hope Calmac stays way beyond this season, type of player we should be building the team around … by the way when Callum returned from Notts County I thought we’d maybe get £500,000 or £1m for him due to a decent loan stint … never thought he would get in our first team … just shows exactly what I know about football :-)

  25. Celtic did create a lot of chances but as the time ticked away to the final few minutes anxiety took hold on the couch. Their goalie seemed unbeatable and it was looking like one of those days until our new lad Ajeti came to the rescue with a couple of touches with a little help from French Eddie. Perfect time for the new lad to score his first goal rescue the three points.

Bitton and Julien were solid at the back and I see a great improvement in Greg Taylor, has a great spring for a small lad, made plenty of breaks but has to improve his crossing and avoid getting blocked by defenders, room for improvement. Ryan Christie put in a huge shfft and Ollie Ntcham played with strength and skill and managed to do so throughout the ninety minutes, the kind of consistency we want from Ollie.

Tremendous burst of pace from Polish Paddy in the dying minutes which probably would have seen him score before he was unceremoniously hauled down by the defender. The lad shows he has some pace.

Credit to Dundee they played with great energy and will have a good season.

  26. WEEBOBBYCOLLINS on 23RD AUGUST 2020 12:30 PM

John Smith was only marginally less right wing than Tony Blair.

He was affable and avuncular and died young but I think that in death people are making him out to be something more than he was in life.

  27. Big Jimmy – we will meet again some day in your local for a good swally and a laugh.

Taurangabhoy- so hard you based in NZ? Wherever you are hail hail amigo.

    D :)

  28. will be interesting to see how many votes Julien gets , normally does better when we are not being attacked.

  29. Ps I would try and sandwich in our 2 games in hand and try and get points on the board asap.

    D :)

  30. I am genuinely worried for our support- and the reaction to yesterday’s game

In truth we were not that bad at all and that result was typical of many away performances over our 9iar.

We were by far the better team, we created many more chances and were met with a determined defence and a good keeper

We usually wear teams down and earn our win in the 2nd half. Yes, I understand the angst resulting from the importance of the league and the lateness of the winner but nobody was dreadful or hiding or showing lack of effort or guile

This was a long way better than the Killie game and pretty close to our standards vs Hamilton and Reykjavik- the only difference is that our opposition played better- yes they could have been reffed better- but if I was Micky Mellon I would be pleased with my team

We usually win away by 1 or 2 goals- the heavy wins are a rarity

This league is not going to be a procession of Celtic and Sevco wins with the O** F*** games as decisive

Honestly- we need to calm down- there are going to be many worse games ahead

P.S. we won the game when Forrest came on 😀

  31. HANKRAY

…..and Ollie Ntcham played with strength and skill and managed to do so throughout the ninety minutes, the kind of consistency we want from Ollie.

    ——————————-

He was replaced by Ajer in 74 minutes……………………..but good to see you posting!
