Gang of 10 SPL clubs set to deliver hammer blow to Rangers

747

It has been another busy news day but for now we’ll concentrate on the two most important matters.

10 SPL clubs, excluding Celtic and Rangers, have arranged to meet next week.  This is the most significant news since Craig Whyte bought Rangers in May last year.  One SPL chairman told the BBC:

“With the Old Firm having talked in the past about leaving Scottish football, we have had to think about a future without them.

“Part of that situation could be about to come true, so we have had time to think about how we would get on without them.”

The smaller 10 SPL clubs have a once-only opportunity to redraw the power and financial map in Scottish football.  They want more of your money and this is their chance to get it.  They also want to be able to vote crazy ideas into the league that benefit teams without many fans or good players.

This is perfectly understandable and expected.  The distribution of TV income currently favours successful clubs, who are invariably featured most often.  Smaller clubs want to change this into a more equitable distribution model.  You and I will still buy the overwhelming majority of subscriptions, but our club will receive less cash from the TV deal.

“Part of that situation” refers to an SPL without Rangers.  This meeting is likely to end Newco Rangers hopes of getting straight back into the SPL in their tracks.  Without knowing the numbers in favour of a change, this looks like the killer blow, delivered before any proposition from Craig Whyte reaches the agenda.

We have discussed the need for Whyte to present a fait-accompli in order to get his wish.  Having been unable to do that, others had the opportunity to organise and make alternative plans.

The other important occurrence today was the attendance at the Rolls Building courts in London today by HMRC lawyers, keen to secure any monies seized from Collyer Bristows’ client account last week.  HMRC have made it perfectly clear they are all over Duff and Phelps and will seek court intervention to secure their rights.

This is significant.

You can make what you like about a more even distribution of SPL TV money, or the possibility of being held to ransom in future by bad teams who want to vote themselves out of relegation, but the only thing we know for sure is that this has been a profoundly bad day for Craig Whyte and anyone else hoping to phoenix a Newco Rangers.

In light of today‘s developments,  Mr Whyte and the administrators have some thinking to do before announcing any plans tomorrow.

Celtic will be waiting for exactly the right moment to make a statement… too early, and it could interrupt, or distract from, events which are best left to run.

As everybody knows, there could be a very serious tipping point soon, where we could be the club who pay the price.

If a newco into the SPL goes ahead, it cannot be subject to penalties as this conflicts the very point of a newco. In such a circumstance, Celtic are in a very perilous position. They need to make it clear that – apart from the ethical problems – the consequences of such an action are that Celtic (and possibly other SPL clubs) will be severely disadvantaged in hard financial terms, as a significant portion of their support will not support such a corrupt league.

Maybe the CSA should canvas votes on this, so that the club has some hard figures to show to UEFA. If 90% of the support will not countenance this, Celtic can’t afford to accommodate it.

  2. They will be meeting to discuss how they can bring Rangers back into the league and get as much out of them as possible.

Celtic being at the meeting serves no purpose.

It also allows them to state that they are being impartial.

Brilliant news, the 10 clubs deserve more money. They’ve been shafted by them and let’s face it us too for too long. 27 consecutive years of league titles between two teams is way too many.

I hope the 10 teams stay firm to help each other and get a fairer deal. A fairer deal for all of Scottish football is the only way to regenerate the game.

If they can hold off a newco and ensure they end up in div.3 then more power to them I say.

When do Celtic step into the fray? Is the delay because they (CFC PLC) are aware of pre-judicial legal implications? Is our PLC Board not bound to represent their shareholders best interests. Is it not to the detriment of Celtic PLC shareholders and staff that potential revenue which could have been accrued by Champions League participation has been denied by illegal competition? Perhaps its not a stonewall guilty verdict on that yet but I sincerely hope Celtic PLC do not duck away from this.

In all this muck, there remains a strong possibility that the dark forces who have suppressed us (and fair play) for over a century may still be at work.

We need to have the ball at our feet when the real end-game starts.

  17. GreennWhyte67 on

Heard on Clyde 1 that adminstrators say our hero is not a preferred creditor, don’t know if its true, anybody?

does anyone else think it’s a bit unreasonable that we are being excluded from this SPL meeting, after all the 12 clubs are all members of the SPL regardless of voting rules, I’m all for the redistribution of wealth but we have earned our position in Scottish football and deserve to have a strong say in the future of our league. Once again we are being treated like s***e and once again the greed of the SPL clubs is there for all to see.

I really don’t think this meeting can be seen as a signal that they won’t let Rangers back in SPL if they are liquidated and if a new co is established. I think they are banking on a new weakend Rangers co.

I bet they try and get a share of our home gate receipts as well….

In this case the board are doing the right thing, this is a very dangerous time, the grunters are still blaming PL for all their problems because he todl the world we dont need them.

I also think this could be the reason for the cancelled press conference.

With respect, you’re working on the basis that law and principle will be applied logically and fairly. Whilst I don’t believe in conspiracies, there is a significant and concerted effort across the media, official bodies, and extending into the political sphere, to keep them alive in one form or another.

What good for Celtic is likely to ensue from a meeting which we are excluded?

I sincerely hope there’s a rash of under the table deals which end up with a route south. If its all based on nought but a hope then it would be an unforgivable risk from a previously prudent organisation.

Taken from RM site….The thead is titled..wait for it…Punishing the Victim :-)

The last line just about sums up their intelligence….

Three weeks ago the Scottish Football Association launched an ‘independent’ enquiry in to “whether or not Craig Whyte is qualified to take control of the club”. That was about nine months too late wasn’t it?

How can you investigate whether or not someone is qualified to take control of a football club, when they have already been allowed to take control of a football club! Only in Scotland! And only the SFA could demonstrate such levels of incompetency.

Where was this very public and independent investigation when Craig Whyte was about to take control? I don’t remember hearing or reading anything about it. Did the SFA make an enquiry in to Craig Whyte before he took Rangers down the road to a financial hell, that they didn’t have to go down? They may well say they did, but will we see proof? I think we should! The documents that detail this enquiry need to be made public. It wouldn’t surprise me if the SFA just took The Murray Group’s word for it.

Why? Well we need to know who is to blame on the SFA’s part, for allowing Craig Whyte to take control of the football club in the first place, seeing as he is not ‘fit and proper’.

The most laughable part of it is, that the SFA are intending to charge Rangers – yes Rangers – with bringing the game in to disrepute. All because Rangers’ solicitors – don’t they mean Whyte’s solicitors, Collyer Bristow? – restricted the process by failing to share information.

Again, why charge Rangers as a club? Who is to blame for this failure to share information? Craig Whyte and his solicitors.

The list of areas to be considered by the Judicial Panel include; “Obligations and duties of members, Official return, Financial records, Division of receipts and payment of expenses (Scottish Cup)”.

Again, I must ask, why and how can you punish a football club for the incompetent actions of individuals? Rangers Football Club is the victim here, not the offender.

My thoughts reiterate the second brief statement made by Duff and Phelps this afternoon; “In broad terms, we believe there are mitigating factors and we hope to demonstrate the distinction between the Club and the actions of any individuals”.

The SFA have already punished Rangers, by approving Craig Whyte as a ‘fit and proper’ person to take control of the club nine months ago. The SFA are intending to punish the victim.

Let us hope common sense prevails – I know, common sense and the SFA are not acquainted – and Rangers are not punished for bringing the game in to disrepute.

Craig Whyte, The Murray Group and the SFA are the real guilty parties here, not Rangers.
