Gangster clubs, brutish fans, identity politics

729

The Daily Record’s political editor today published information obtained from the Scottish Government by a Freedom of Information Request, where Police Scotland note Newco “actively engaged” supporters to break lockdown rules in March this year.

Following Newco’s game with St Mirren on 6 March, Police Scotland received assurances from Newco that they would encourage fans to stay at home.  The Police memo stages, “Whilst assurances were given this did not materialise.”

The Police go on to stage Newco made “numerous statements encouraging celebration, including from the manager (Steven Gerrard).”

“Both the Manager and players actively engaged from within the stadium with fans gathered in disgraceful displays of encouragement, in solid opposition to the public safety issues arising, to their responsibilities given the privileges under which football operates, and to the commitments they had made around public communications.”

The Government should have acted on this information in March.  Football privileges were being actively flouted by one club but it took further incidents this month before Nicola Sturgeon felt it necessary to take on Newco.  This is in stark contrast to her grabbing the mic. when Celtic followed her own rules during their trip to Dubai.

You will see not contrition from Newco.  Instead, they will deflect and distract.  Let them sink in their own sewage.

Gangster clubs operate across Europe.  They stir-up identity sentiment among brutish fans and intimidate politicians who need to fish in the same identity waters.  It takes brave political leadership to stop the rot.

I agree that sweeping statements, or “facts” that can’t be backed up, can be frustrating/annoying – especially on emotive subjects.

Thanks for keeping the personal insults out of it 👍🏼

An Inquiry CLEARED Her recently…What your Point ?

I was accused of Breaking the Law a few years ago..But In a COURT of Law by a Judge…I was CLEARED…END of story..as it doesnt matter NOW whether I was in FACT Guilty or NOT Guilty…and I KNOW the WHOLE TRUTH of the matter which caused me to be arrested and locked Up.

    …………

Cheers for your Post, but others on here SPECULATING on the attack on Peters Hoose etc, does NOT COMPARE with INSULTING Catholic/Irish/Celtic supporters on here as ” JHB” did recently.

Also, I do NOT attempt to RAM MY Political views down the Throats of others on here each and every day like JHB does.

At this moment in time, NOT only am I very angry ( as usual…. with the Labour party and the Tories ), but I am ALSO VERY ANGRY with The Scottish Government in relation to Covid and the Huns…and obviously Police Scotland.

In FACT ( Unlike JHB Posts), I can state truthfully ( As I have the Evidence) only Minutes ago, I sent off an Email to my Local MSP who is a also a SNP Councillor, asking for Explanations into Police Scotland and the Huns staff and THEIR CLEAR Breach of Covid Restrictions, and IF Police Scotland have provided the Scot Gov. with EVIDENCE that the Video footage from INSIDE a Function Room/Bar was indeed “Doctored/FAKED” , which allowed Police Scotland in THEIR so called ” Findings” to state that ” There was NO Criminaility” involved ?

My point is that politicians lie.

I was trying to answer your question about the £350m.

You seem to have a bee in your bonnet about it.

But, as you say, that’s all in the past. Water under the bridge.

Maybe we should be worried about the lies we are being told today by our politicians. Particularly the lies that pander to our prejudices. They’re the ones we’re most likely to believe.

  5. Good morning cqn from a lovely sunny morning in the Garngad

A day in the garden awaits me to put in new stepping stones down to my shed since there is no Celtic game.

I see Bojo is saying he see’s nothing in the Data that suggests that he would not open everything up down south on June 21, this couple with their hospitality industry back in full swing.

So there is no data to suggest the NHS are over run . What about Bolton, on a same par with Glasgow we were told last week.

    No Data.. Mmmmmm

Is Nicola secretly waiting on the DATA from the zombie fest.

I suspect the huns will have said to Plod that the FTP event was a private gathering and it is not illegal to say FTP at a private gathering.

There is also the evidential problem in proving that any particular individual used the words. They could each individually claim hat they didn’t and it’s questionable whether a conviction could be obtained in those circumstances.

The huns claim that they have initiated court action against anyone is most probably bluster.

It will be interesting to see how the politicians and media react. I suspect it will all go quiet soon enough.

  7. Seems that the contentious topic of ‘personal’ insults has again raised it’s head, in that everybody is charged with tempering their comments for fear of upsetting certain readers. One man’s ‘personal’ insult could be seen as an innocuous dig by others, so I suppose it boils down to the degree of offence, either given or taken.

Do we really want a blog where self-appointed insult monitors feel emboldened to become the arbiters of what is and isn’t said by others and to others?

Or should these individuals be encouraged to influence and shape certain conversations with the aim of keeping it all very civil and seemingly ‘gentemenly’?

Should those viewed by some as the target of insults be expected to stand up for themselves, or is there a place for a white knight to step in and berate other posters on the ‘victim’s’ behalf?

And is there a limit to how many bloggers can be ‘defended’ by these white knights? Should we turn a blind eye to certain insults which target large groups on the blog, such as when P67 insults anyone who supports the SNP, or when others insult anyone who has the temerity to hold opposing political or moral views?

My view? Say what you want to, avoid swearing (hosts preference) ignore anyone you don’t wish to interact with and scroll past anything not directed at you that you find too upsetting.

‘Sits back in anticipation of (im)personal abuse in my direction’….

Just to add, are you aware that “JHB” lives IN Jolly ole England..or so he claims ?

IF hes truthful about that, I aint gonna take his ANTI Scottish Independence Gibberish as fact, as Scottish rules/Laws etc do NOT affect HIM nor his ILK.

  10. Give it two games and Celtic will be punished for sectarian singing….no matter what.. …but we brought it on ourselves by support ing thus mob back to life.. and now working with them….colts teams..various sponsors….and using Parks buses! The Tory MSP comments sum them up .. and fact no Tory condemned last week’s events shows who they all are. Scum

  13. JHB gets abuse because he calls out the nationalist myths. That is the bottom line. Questioning his Celtic credentials is only a deflection.

For example where are the free laptops and bikes that were promised ?

As Celtic supporters it is right to discuss and expose myths that may affect us. Politicians must be questioned no-matter what banner they hold.

Play the ball not the man and keep it civil.

    I don’t think P67 insults anyone.

He calls out and critiques thr current decision makers in the Scottish Govt who have been in power for years.

It’s only an insult if you perceive they can do no wrong.

Which is where we are poltically we are now.

Honestly and I mean honestly i have never seen the strong pro indy posters ever admit that any of the SNPs decisions have ever been wrong. Even by the balance of probabilities there has to be wrong decisions. Twitter and facebook worse.

Think that’s where the commentary comes from.

Like I will have a few derogatory follow up posts about me for even daring to say this…..

I can take it, many can’t.

It was the Indy Vote when campaigning on the blog started. Some even admitted the blog was targetted.

If it could be explained rationally, costed realistically and involve inclusion and rational behaviour I’d listen. But can’t even ask or make a point. Without bluster in response.

    That’s my biggest worry.

If it was as good as it sold to be then you wouldn’t need in what I perceive as quite bullish tactics.

    Just my opinion.

JHB gets abuse because he calls out the nationalist myths. That is the bottom line. Questioning his Celtic credentials is only a deflection.

    —-

JHB gets abuse because he lectures other users on a daily basis with the same anti independence cut and paste Daily Express Daily Mail Project Fear garbage every day. If you walked in the pub and he was standing at the bar himself you would move on. His daily epistles are – like the right wing press – reheated rehashes of previous announcements and always variations on the same theme.

He then compounds it by – again, repeatedly -claiming that persons who hold an alternate world view to his own do so only through lack of intelligence and their own dumb bigotry. Hardly a winning formula for influencing people.

He fails to acknowledge the irony of claiming to support “a club open to all” like Celtic while using terms such as “Our People”, “Our Friends” etc, which the reader is invited to accept is his promotion of what he sees as Celtic/Catholic values. Other posters have repeatedly called him out on this issue.

Regarding his Celtic credentials he also makes reference to being a long term supporter yet displays what I would consider basic factual errors.

When called out on this he plays to the gallery. He feigns genuine loss of memory claiming to be a mature man, that his error was trivial and the challenger is being unreasonable, and invites his reader to accept that him being called out is tantamount to harassment.

He’s also not slow himself to personalise the issue and this week accused me of being unduly obsessed with him and attempted to ridicule me for calling him out on his Celtic credentials.

He never attempts to answer a direct question put to him.

  18. Anyway if it is Howe and if he’s waiting on gardening leave promotion clause bonus then Bournemouth’s game v Brentford today relevant.

They win (currently 1-0 up on agg) then next week is the play off final.

His latest article noted that Police Scotland had criticised the Huns and he still found a way to argue this was the fault of the First Minister.

Many times I have seen on here persons who advocate independence criticise other aspects of ScotGov and or SNP policy – someone made reference only last night to the gender issues which seem to particularly excite members of the ScotGov at the moment.

I am not a member of the SNP, I do advocate independence and have previously on here criticised aspects of the ScotGov’s handling of Celtic related Covid issues.

  22. I don’t care about Celtic Supporters voting who ever they like ,it’s their choice,My gripe is how the club and players were stagnant this season of all seasons,Our fans should stop signing songs about the O/O ,The Queen ,The Masons ,and the worst songs of all support of The I R A their is good Celtic Songs out there ,and our club should start playing these songs on match days ,don’t give this rotten media a inch ,as according to them we are just as bad there pals over at Ibrox,so eventually when there is a new board in at Celtic Football Club they will encourage all Celtic fans to be more responsible in what they sing .

  30. Thanks Martim for your first reply at 9:39 which effectively proves my point. As for your BTW response, kudos for (deliberately?) missing the point entirely 👏

  31. Interesting conversation there on Radio Scotland on anti-Catholic bias. At least it is now being called what it really is. If there was any conclusion, it was that the Scottish Government has to take the initiative. Otherwise, things will continue as they have for generations. At least, there is now an acceptance that it exists. Whether any Scottish Government will have the courage to do anything about it is an altogether different matter.

  32. It’s interesting to see that one week on from the riots in Glasgow that the narrative has been dropped

Hopes that there was a different metric at work and that SNP leaders were calling the behaviour anti catholic and anti Irish racism, have been dashed and the Tories and Rangers have again shown their true colours.

Rangers are threatening Legal actions against the same politicians. This may well just be a threat as these civil cases can be difficult with the balance of truth being on the litigant. It is a brass necked attempt to silence criticism. Joanna cherry, is a QC and they would make a serious mistake taking action against her. She would run rings around them.

All quite on the Lawwell Arson attack as well. The Huns have been very quite on this subject also. Their Fans must be No1 suspects given there past actions against Celtic. In the same way that No Tory criticism of Rangers fan behaviour has been heard, there has been no Rangers reports of sympathy for Lawwell and his family.

some posters had hoped that there would be a change afoot but it now looks like they were over optimistic

  33. The recent Kano Foundation fundraising had hope to reach £20000 to help buy season tickets for the children they take to games .

A total of over £61,000 has been raised by our support from one end of the world to another to help this fantastic organisation .
