Giorgos Giakoumakis spectacular header to give Greece a late lead against Kosovo last night showed to an international audience what we have seen since his return from injury earlier this year. Giorgos is a talent and his acquisition from VVV Venlo for around £2.5m was spectacularly good business.
His solitary year in the Netherlands saw him finish top goal scorer in a season VVV were relegated. Celtic picked him up so cheaply as his career stalled after signing for AEK in 2017. He scored only once for the Athens club and saw two loan moves fail to spark his career.
At 27, Giorgos is not going to attract a lucrative offer from England. He is a player we should be able to rely on for the foreseeable future. When Kyogo is fit, Giorgos will struggle to make the starting line-up, but having a supporting cast of players with a point to prove is a big part of winning.

Oz pressing high, with some success.
Brilliant play from Boyle, but can’t find anyone with his cross.
2 Hertz players playing well. They have the basis of a solid back 4, next season.
Duke lucky not to get booked.
Sustained Peru pressure, desperate Ozzie defence.
South Americans stroking the ball around with a lot of confidence now.
Boyle decked in box.
No VAR, bit looked reckless to me.
Boyle carries biggest threat for Oz. 3 men on him when he collects.
Good evening all from the Laurieston Bar. Guinness flowing sweetly. You can never have enough good times. Is there no end to this folly?😜
Ange told me I should never stop. I followed his advice.
Regardless of result, I have to leave this game after about 75 minutes.
2 evenly matched teams, but Peru are making Oz run.
Irvine heads wide from Boyle cross. Almost a McGinn moment, just not quite as bad.
Another great Boyle cross. Corner to Oz.
Comes to nothing. Mooy free kick almost falls for Oz. Offside.
I read today another punter on about Bassey. He now has him valued at 30 million !!!!!!!!!.I think if it keeps going like this he will have improved by 1 million per first team games.
Price rising in Scotland faster than Petrol.
One minute ET.
0-0 @ HT
Last home grown no9 who played regularly has to be Creaney. The last time we had more than one was probably early late 70s/early 80s with Nicholas and McCluskey
I think that is a bit of an outlier as we have bought strikers in the most part since then but (and I defer to bhoys older than me, 53) but did we not buy strikers a lot before then also?
Hood, Deans, Wallace, McBride come to mind.
Our man, Juranovic, is more than holding his own against some of the best players in the world….. at LEFT back.
France v Croatia.
Croatia 1 up
Corner to Peru.
51 minutes gone. Unfortunately, I have to go in about another 10.
Coneybhoy
I think you are probably right.
Homegrown since the lions :Kenny, Lou Macari, George McCluskey, Charlie Nicholas
Bought in ; Joe Craig, Tom McAdam, Frank McGarvey, Jim Melrose, Brian McClair, Judas, Alan McInally, Andy Walker, Frank McAvennie, Mark McGhee, big Jackie Andy Payton to name a few.
Coneybhoy 7.53. Indeed, I believe we were buying strikers since J.E McGrory retired. Not unusual I suppose for any major football team.
Mooy with a sclaff.
jim feckin melrose, get tae
Peru close but foul keeper.
Neither team has had a gilt edged chance.
Corner Mooy. Keeper punches it.
St Stivs, nice town but the player was an absolute dumpling. 😡
Still no breakthrough. Huftae scoot noo. I’ll catch the denouement later.
Laters.😊
St Stivs
Aye. His Celtic memorable moment was throwing up on the pitch at Tannadice.
Could have bought Judas from Thistle and signed him instead.
