Good luck to Ange having to pick a strongest 11

Celtic certainly didn’t have the fluidity we saw at times last season, but they comfortably got the defence of their title underway against Aberdeen yesterday.  The visitors, playing their fifth competitive game of the season, did a decent job of denying Celtic space inside the box, but could scarcely construct an attack worthy of the name at any point during the game.

Earlier in the summer we discussed the need for a central defender to break through the lines, as Kristoffer Ajer did so effectively.  On one notably occasion in the second half, Stephen Welsh carried the ball forward 30 yards, causing havoc in the Aberdeen midfield.  We are going to face a lot of packed defences this season, overloading with a ball-carrying centre half is an important tool to assist.

Stephen’s more important contribution came when he headed home from a corner in the third minute.  He remains our most effective aerial target, as long as Christopher Jullien is not in the line-up.

After that promising start, the expected avalanche did not materialise.  Passing was too wayward.  Threat levels increased when Giorgios Giakoumakis, David Turnbull and Liel Abada replaced Kyogo Furuhashi, Reo Hatate and Daizen Maeda.  The departing three had been unable to make a telling contribution to events.

Delighted with the win; the passing will improve.  Good luck to Ange having to pick a strongest 11.

The child abuse chants are a thing because the monstrously absent plc don’t execute their executive duties, responsibilities, in dealing decisively with neither this horrible isssue, nor do they rein in the always hostile, MSM`s coverage of it.

This abuse issue is being dealt with by Celtic’s legal team, and MSM should be reminded of that point by issuing legal reporting guide lines, if that’s possible I don’t know, but if MSM are going to occupy the gutter to cheaply attack Celtic, then surely Celtic should be more than capable of reminding the MSM that sexual abuse starts at the top of the house with the local government, and ScottishMSM don’t report on ANY of that, so Scottish MSM should be urged to do their jobs properly, and until they do, there’ll be no more media facilites afforded to ANY of Scotland`s MSM gobshites.

    Why would that be difficult?

Maybe the Aberdeen fans, and others, watched on last year when Ch4news lined up outside Celtic Park, led by the cowardly, but, very shouty, Alex Thompson, and the utterly odious snp`s, equally shouty, James Dornan, yuck, both of them sharpenng their scalpels to carry out their version of surgery on Celtic’s CEO, Peter Lawwell, who is paid handsomely enough to be able to eat both, AT, and , JD, as a matter of routine.

But, sadly for the prolonged agony of the perceived victims, and Celtic’s reputation, Celtic’s handsomely remunerated CEO, bottled out of an interview in conjunction with these 2 assholes.

To anybody watching, Celtic’s CEO made the victims feel that they were being lied to by Celtic.

Celtic’s status looked grubby, and, shifty, if not cowardly, and very sleekitly unacceptable.

Now if Celtic weren’t a rudderless ship then PL would’ve been summoned to an emergency board meeting, and been instantly dismissed.

But, next day, it was as though nothing had happened in plc land.

    Nothing.

No statement, no explanaton as to why Celtic CEO bottled out of facing CH4`s AT, and snp`s JD.

Just another plc mess for Celtic supporters to wear, and they wear an awful lot of plc mess, and, corruption.

Its not just the executives who are rudderless, and, hypocrites.

Real Tims from, 60`s, 70`s, 80`s, and, 90`s, would’ve dragged the utterly corrupt, Same Club Lie collusionists all the way down London Road and threw them into the River Clyde after 2012, and nobodies army would’ve stopped these, Real Tims from executing true justice.

Tims nowadays say that Rangers died out of one side of their mouths, then they go and buy Same Club Lie tickets for £49?

Tims nowadays chant “Back The Workers” then they go and vote for sexual abuse ridden snp austerity to be inflicted onto these workers?

Tims nowadays sing about sing about “Setting Ireland Free” then they go and vote against Brexit, and, Jeremy Corbyn?

Tims nowadays don’t get rid of a plc that makes Tims wear all of the plc mess, instead they be cheap, and, lazy, then start whining about the mocking that they recieve from opposition teams fans?

Tims nowadays aren’t led by folk who’ll teach Tims how to confront situations and bring them to a positive conclusion, no leadership on any link of the entire chain of Celtic`s command.

    Who is to blame?

Celtic without uppity Tims is nothing!

  6. It was a good win yesterday and a decent performance. Players shouldn’t be criticised for looking sluggish or off the pace on the first competitive fixture of the season. Despite what the manager said about the fact there’s no time to get up to speed, the reality is that it takes time. If we can get through the first 5 games with 5 wins then we should be off and running.

I was pleased to see Stephen Welsh play well. I thought he was good enough for an extended run at the start of last season, so hopefully he can continue to improve and hold on to the jersey. Riley was excellent first half and is going to be a key player this season. Feels like we are close to having a team that can compete in every competition. CL fixtures will tell us a lot.

That doesn’t surprise me, he’s spent the past, what 18 months?, in an environment where he can foul with impunity.

  8. Wouldn`t a club who spent 20 million on a player be aware of the Ref Effect in Scotland before departing with such a sum?

  9. Sevco have been in touch with a disgruntled Ajax and offered them Souttar in a Bassey-swap deal.

  10. I’m sure the newcomers to the Celtic squad must have been gobsmacked by the terrific pre match sense of occasion that greeted the team as they took th e field at Celtic Park yesterday. I’ve attended big sporting events in various codes down through the years but yesterday’s unfurling of the Championship flag and the spectacular green and white tableau all around the stands and terracing was truly awesome. Well done whoever was responsible for the display.

It was looking like a runaway victory for the Hoops after that early goal but it turned out to be a contest from then on. Aberdeen dug in defensively and apart from the Johnny Hayes chance did little else in attack although the team showed evidence of being a force this season.

What a way for Jota to celebrate his permanent transfer to Celtic with that cracking strike and just continuing with his goal hungry form where he left off last season and long may it continue.

  11. Newcastle willing to pay 50 million for James Madison from Leicester. Guy has one cap for England.

I’m at a loss as to why Celtic v Hearts is still scheduled for Saturday 20th August when Hearts are in the draw for EL Play-off first leg on Thursday 18th.

Or do they wait for the actual draw before changing it to Sunday?

I’m interested because if it’s Saturday 20th I miss out.

“Threat levels increased when Giorgios Giakoumakis, David Turnbull and Liel Abada replaced Kyogo Furuhashi, Reo Hatate and Daizen Maeda. The departing three had been unable to make a telling contribution to events.“

    =======================================

Just goes to show that we all feel matches differently. I think it’s harsh to group all 3 subbed players together as being ineffective.

I actually had Hatate as one of our better players. He linked up play with quick passing; occasionally an attempt at splitting the defence will sometimes fail to come off, but I’m glad he’s trying rather than passing sideways or backwards. He’s always looking to get the forward as quickly as possible. Also could have had a penalty in 2nd half.

I’d agree that Kyogo was ineffective. He simply wasn’t at the races yesterday, imo. After 30 mins, I was already looking forward to seeing GG come on for Kyogo. Don’t know if he was less than 100%, but Kyogo looked sluggish I thought.

Maeda was…well, Maeda. Best attributes are his work rate off the ball. Endless pressing of opponents often results in them misplacing a pass/punt, and surrendering possession back to us. That’s worth something. Unfortunately, he’s not the most technically gifted. First touch is often poor; and his final ball into the box needs improvement. So, he was pretty ineffective going forward and deserved to be subbed.

I’d say Hatate was subbed as he was probably the most tired of the three. He done a fair bit if tracking back during his 66 mins to help defensively.

That’s how I saw it anyway.

  14. Probably not fair to judge Aberdeen in a performance against Celtic but I wasn`t overly impressed by them yesterday. Also, although there was the occasional `robust` challenge, I thought they played fairly enough. Certainly more so than many opposition sides I have seen at Celtic Park.

Our bus burst a tyre on the M74 yesterday so we had plenty of time to discuss things while waiting for a replacement bus!😱

Anyway we all agreed there are no set of circumstances that would allow that game to be played on the Saturday. My daughter has arranged a Gallowgate drinking session for that Saturday, hotel booked too. They are still going🍻🍷

  17. Latest update on the POTY thing – we now have a wonderful 77 entries and there’s still almost 4 hours to go.

One issue that I have realised – and it was the same last time around – is that the competition is a bit unfair on our goalkeepers. Given that we dominate most games we play, certainly domestically, then even when our goalie is flawless in the sense of no material mistakes and a clean sheet, often they don’t get a single vote.

Maybe there’s an argument that there should be some recognition for keeping a clean sheet? But how I would factor that in in terms of points – no idea!!

Keep the votes coming (and any suggestions on recognising our goalies’ performances!) to sencelpoty@gmail.com
