  1. Geebee….you worked in the betting industry and don’t believe in luck ?……first I’ve came across….even the highest paid management where I worked in London used to always say.. ..be lucky….as they left a conversation……I could write a book on luck……for instance ……wasn’t Steven Gerrard lucky that covid came along when it did ??……or that he actually decided to give it one more go after getting beat once again by the bottom of the league team ?. There’s not a bit of luck in play there ??…mmm

That is a very impressive feat!

Posting when you’re head is buried up to your shoulders in the sand.

  3. I think the huns are linked to Cahill. Also agree that Hearts got some breaks with their first goal and that the stats show we dominated. Our lack of aerial ability is worrying.

Who thought it was a good idea to play a midfielder who’s not good enough to play midfield, at centre half and have a centre half on the bench.

    ————————————————————-

    No me!!

It’s a worry. For me anyway.

Heading into Embra for a day out with the family so be nice!

  5. AN DUN,

People see different things in games. The reason Ange plays Biton,at the moment,is because of his ability to pass the ball through the lines. He did it very effectively plenty of times last night. We have a problem with midfielders, not Soro, afraid to turn when this happens, and send it back the way it came.Turnbulls panic fluff, nearly causing a goal trying to do this.We know Biton is not a CH,he knows it,but giving the guy a hard time ,when overall,he played very well, partnering a guy he has just met,is over the top.

Highest paid management would also know that over the long term, “luck” runs out.

As with Gerrard and Covid, again a one-off situation. If a pandemic kept hitting every time Sevco hit a bad run you’d have a point.

My point is, yes there are freak occurrences but over the long-term so-called “luck” balances out.

Might it be that you have misunderstood what is proposed and what it is intended to achieve?

The suggestion is that on receipt of an unfair decision several players challenge the referee at length, within the rules. Every single time.

That way commentators can’t ignore what is happening. Decisions they would otherwise ignore are replayed, highlighted and scrutinised.

  8. VINNIETHEDOG on 1ST AUGUST 2021 12:44 PM

Also, with Covid being “lucky” for Slippy, that’s with the assumption he would have been sacked without it. We have no way of knowing that and that’s just speculation.

    I don’t think he’s a centre back and I hope I don’t see him their again.

Not great in the air and not physical enough for me. And slow.

I would have played Welsh or Urgoghide (sp) who are natural defenders.

Also Liam Shaw surely deserves a place in our powder puff midfield. Surely a better option than MCCarthy if rumours are true.

And the tea lady in place of Eddy.

    Anyway, my carriage awaits.

  10. Oh and our new Japanese striker is not a right winger.

    Gettin’ worried again.

    Away this time.

  11. Turkeybhoy..yes Bitton played well……i think ange likes him….he was far better than starfelt………my worry …..hearts were as bad as I’ve seen…..and still done us !!!

  12. Just on Turkish sports,Fenerbache, now trying to sign Buta.WTF.Thought we had agreed this transfer?Or is that just guff?Getting worse.

  13. VINNIETHEDOG,

Yep,even the stats showed that, but I think most of that was down to us,not giving them a kick.Could not get near us.If the offside goal is given, could have been 4 easily. They were on their knees at that point.

A dashed unfortunate mistake by yon Chappie with the flag. The old “Swings and roundabouts” theory.

We are like the bullied kids in the playground, never get a shot on either.

  14. PHILBHOY on 1ST AUGUST 2021 1:08 PM

Oh and our new Japanese striker is not a right winger.

He is not.Think they, who are they, say he is more left sided attacker.

    I hope !!!!!!!.

  15. At the moment Bodrum now ablaze.Very bad scenes of people fleeing with all they can carry.Coming closer to us.On both sides.Turkey so green, they are really struggling to get it all under control.

  16. Bada – Dundee Utd keeper another project at 500k.

Go for an experienced keeper we seen what Forster brought to the table.

    In my opinion of course

    D :)

  17. PeterLatchfordsBelly on

Next we’ll be pulling out the old Craig Brown squirrel about having more throw ins and corners.

If you’re paying attention you you will note that our last 6 games have brought 2 draws and 4 defeats, scoring 5 and conceding 12.

The team and squad is the weakest in 30 years. We are managing major risk due to changes at CEO and manager level. Add to that an unprecedented turnover in departing players. The lack of impetus in response to the challenges facing the club for the past year should be huge red flags for anyone paying attention.

These are all matters within the control of the club itself to resolve. There is no evidence of a will or ability to do so. Instead we are falling back into the comforting squirrels of the 90s when we cast ourselves as victims of the hun and their chums. But just remember who brought the hun back and their motives for doing so. Those same people and their motives remain the driving force at Celtic.

    Long and difficult years ahead.

  18. Tom McLaughlin on

    Ernie –

Last night Callum immediately approached the referee and was pointing his finger at him and lecturing him about the severity of the assault by Halliday and protesting about his lack of action, so what prompted the requests for Celtic players to be more reactive?

Tom- we don’t want to see Celtic players rolling around, play acting, but sometimes we need to embellish assaults like Halliday, to try and embarass the referee to get a card out,it needs to be done I’m afraid. HH

  23. When I’m in a mood like today, I’ve a tendency to over analyse so maybe I’m going ott here…but

Why is Ntcham announcing his departure on social media before there’s anything official from the club ?

It all points to a very disorganised mess behind the scenes. We obviously knew Ntcham’s contract was up, we knew we weren’t renewing, why not announce it and at least look semi professional instead of reacting to his announcement ?

Do it ever time. Have more than one player doing it and do it at length. Highlight it repeatedly. Make it a feature of the game. Make an issue of it.

You’ll be familiar with the phrase ‘The standard you walk past is the standard you accept’.

Lets not walk past it any longer.

  25. I am researching a piece on the last ten years in the history of Celtic which has seen unprecedented domestic success now seemingly being followed by a current situation where we may be on the cusp of the polar opposite.

I want to look at the background and understand what has happened since 2012 when our biggest domestic rival went bust.

There has been knee-jerk reaction, expressed feelings of gloom and predictions of doom. Is what we are now witnessing the culmination of a Psychology Of Failure masked by years of easy success?

    Is the club guilty of:

    * Failure to learn from history.

    * Failure of imagination.

    * Tendency to fight only one enemy.

    * Threat underestimation.

    * Procrastination.

There is a lengthy chapter needed to cover each of the above.

The list of characters includes Dermot Desmond, Peter Lawwell, the Celtic Board of Directors, Neil Lennon, Ronny Deila, Brendan Rodgers, many players and tens of thousands of supporters.

The effect on Celtic by events at Ibrox over the last decade and previously under the David Murray regime, must also be considered and understood.

Any serious input from fellow CQN people would be most welcome. There are many cleverer than I on here and I would very much appreciate their wisdom.

“Ange is a car crash waiting to happen. Said that when he was appointed and have not changed my opinion , he has no record at creating a defence and it’s just fantasy football.

51% win rate over his whole coaching career. Even when he won titles , Kevin muscat has taken over as boss at his previous club in Japan , that’s the standard , he is a loner who doesn’t listen to anybody , hence he has never taken any assistant manger with him.”

By all means express your doubts but be fair. How can you state “he is a loner who never listens to anyone” on the basis of never taking any assistant manager with him. Perhaps Kevin Muscat would rather be a coach than an assistant coach. Personally I know nothing about his other assistant coaches and what was discussed when Ange moved on. Do you? Ange’s system is not fantasy football. It is doable and at the moment there are the obvious hurdles – namely the players from last season and their lack of fitness. Let’s see what transpires in the rebuild. There are three main difficulties with Ange’s system and of course Klopp, Guardiola, and closer to home Brendan Rodgers faced these difficulties too:

    (i) it requires team to be refreshed every couple of years

(ii) it needs right players i.e. a sweeper keeper

(iii) it needs a way to deal with the opposition high press when we’re playing out from the back

If you can throw any light on these issues I’m happy to listen. And thanks for giving Anthony Ralston the credit due to him.

we are far to soft soft soft , agree we have to as a team get if highlighted every time it happens.

  28. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

The departures of Olivier (confirmed) and Odsonne (likely) bring an end to the mini-strategy of having a core of young, talented, French academy graduates.

(Julienne is older and an anglophone)

Started off well but began to taper off when le grand chien – Moussa – left Celtic.

Maybe powerful personalities are as important as natural talent when producing winners?

    Whodathunkit?

  29. Ntcham has gone. Rogic, Bitton and Griffiths should have gone long ago. They are all wage thieves. If Ange is not ruthless with players like this, he’ll fail.

Another part of the Lawwell/Lennon legacy is the goalkeeping situation, Barkas in place of Gordon. BR must take some blame here too, having scapegoated Gordon after Slippy humiliated him at Ibrox. Lennon followed his idol BR by freezing out Craig Gordon. Perhaps there was a personal issue, how else would you explain it.
