Helsingborgs indifferent domestic form

791

Helsingborgs IF are sixth after 17 games in the Swedish Allsvenskan, seven points off Elfsborg and Malmo, who ended Scotland’s interest in the Champions League last season.  Our opponents clearly play it tight on the road, they have lost only eight goals away from home, considerably fewer than anyone else in the league (Malmo: 19), although their home goals for and against are not unusually low (scored 14 to Malmo’s 16 at home, conceded nine to Malmo’s one).

Helsingborgs have lost only three league games, fewer than anyone else.  Four draws from nine home games appears to have cost them most ground in the title race.

Celtic can expect to face a tight defence who are well versed at shutting teams out in the second leg in Glasgow where they will need the creative talents of Kris Commons with perhaps Paddy McCourt p[laying a role.  A big European-night atmosphere at Celtic Park will be invaluable.

Jonathan mensah (Evian Thon Gillard) – ghana international played 3 games in the Africa cup recently – Gets called ‘Jonathan’ rather than mensah. Not the biggest, but according to Transfermarkt.de would be available for about 650,000 GBP. Decent addition to our defence.

    +++++

Don’t ever, ever, ever, ever read anything into their valuations of players.

Apparently Uncle Ki could be got for about £3m, Kayal for £4m and Ledley for £4m. I’m not sure if those aren’t for a season’s loan though ;-)

  2. How ironic:

    cheat (v.)

mid-15c., aphetic of O.Fr. escheat, legal term for revision of property to the state when the owner dies without heirs, lit. “that which falls to one,” pp. of escheoir “befall by chance, happen, devolve,” from V.L. *excadere “to fall away,” from L. ex- “out” + cadere “to fall” (see case (1)). Also cf. escheat. The royal officers evidently had a low reputation.

  4. I love the last sentence. Good to see Celtic preparing for the return of the huns…

Celtic FC have submitted plans to demolish the Category B listed London Road Primary School and adjoining caretakers lodge to erect a new superstore, museum, theatre, café and ticket sales office.

Designed by GD Lodge Architects this will aim to contribute to a new ‘stadium quarter’ in tandem with development of the adjacent National Indoor Sports Arena and a retail & leisure park – and will be clad in composite metal composite panels in response.

Nevertheless Celtic maintain that time constraints make it unlikely that works will be completed prior to the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

The school building had been envisaged to provide the required accommodation but Celtic now state that the structure has deteriorated to such an extent that this is no longer viable and will retain only the existing boundary wall.

Historic Scotland have yet to sanction the move however.

Adjacent to the store an avenue will be cut to provide a clear pedestrian access route to the stadium whilst a series of fixed and rising security bollards will be installed to mitigate against a ‘vehicle borne terrorist attack’.

  6. LuxCelt – Jonathan Mensah – Had an eye on this guy after the world cup in ’10, where he put in a very strong performance for a young player with Ghana.

He shortly after moved to Udinese and I thought we had missed the boat. No idea if he’s pushed on from that WC performance but showed a lot of promise.

    – > Yeah – fair comment. I only looked to see what figure they listed as he is a wee bit less well known than the others. even if he cost 2 million – I suspect he would offer a lot more than Kelvin, and a bit more than Rogne.

aye – not a giant, but good strong player. I think with the African nations, the trick is to look at guys in their squads who are not already playing in the overvalued leagues. Due to the increasing number of international games, quite often epl guys are ‘unavailable’ so a number of other players get a chance. They are normally strong, athletic, quick, and if developed in france – good technical players. Positions like centre back often suit these guys down to the ground (Bobo anyone?)

The other guy from the Senegal Olympic team looks the real deal, but my mate has just informed me that metallist in the Ukraine are fairly cashed up, so the guy is probably on a serious wage, which would normally be enough to send Lawwell running for the hills.

Incidentally – if there is one club we can learn from about transfers, it is Udinese. the fact that they signed the guy (Mensah) says a lot about what type of player he is. They have a knack of uncovering real talent, and have (arguably) the best scouting network in world football.

  13. Triangle was a BBC television soap opera in the early 1980s, set aboard a North Sea ferry which sailed between Felixstowe & Gothenburg and Gothenburg & Amsterdam. A third imaginary leg existed between Amsterdam & Felixstowe to make up the program title, but this was not operated by the ferry company. The show ran for three series before being cancelled, but is still generally remembered as “some of the most mockable British television ever produced”.

-These ferries, as with all ferries, have now been replaced by bridges.

You really believe that? I concede our transfer activity is improving, but in general ‘atrocious’ has been the trend under Lawwell in the last few seasons. Bangura over Diawara, Murphy, McGinn, Hooiveld, Rasmussen, the failure to sign a keeper ahead of Braga, the repeated ‘last day of the window’ rush, willo flood, the list goes on.

As i say – fortunately we seem to be improving. Previously i honestly thought we ‘scouted’ on Match of the Day (english championship version…)

As you no doubt know, Stacey’s husband’s (Gavin) dad was in Triangle so was Sid James’ wife, Diana Coupland.

DBBIA probably has no recollection given that he couldn’t even recall the equally dire “The Protectors”. Being a medical man, he probablt does remember “Angels” if only for the kid-on rock guitar theme tune.

  17. WGS definitely did all his scouting from MOTD and Goals on Sunday, we’ve had to build the scouting system up from scratch again after it was looking in pretty good shape pre-MON days.

Sorry, but that building is a metal warehouse box. Worse than a tesco. To claim it was “designed” is an affront to architects. Was hoping we`d get something a bit more inspiring.

And to build it they want to demolish a Cat B listed building.

Kind of symbolic. Pay lip service to tradition until it stands in the way of someone making a profit.

    Shameful.

Generationally we must be unique in preserving buildings which can no longer be used in areas where there is little space, which are not absolutely unique in their design. I find it a little odd.
