Imperious champions like Celtic are commercially and competitively beneficial

267

There are five games between Celtic and a third successive Scottish Cup win, a run of success achieved only by Rangers (in the 60s) and Aberdeen (in the 80s).  Brendan Rodgers’ priority for the remainder of the season will be to win the league title, but with the embarrassment of trebles and seven-in-a-row leagues, matching the successive wins record in the Scottish Cup is a significant and worthy target.

Retaining the Cup also denies pretenders the opportunity to put a stake in the ground, a bit like we did against the other Airdrieonians (who perished when they were unable to pay David Murray’s bill) in the 1995 Final.

There’s a notion that Celtic playing Monopoly with Scottish football is a bad thing from a competitive or commercial sense, but I suspect the opposite is true.  On any given season the Cup would be sacrificed for the league, but everyone else wants to win a trophy, any trophy – this trophy.  Every competition is a chance to deny historically imperious champions.  So let’s just win it.

I genuinely fear that the Club can do little to alleviate, obviate the problem and as the victim in all this I never like to see us blamed for the situation we find ourselves in – not saying you are blaming the Club btw.

Problem with SFA is easily resolved.

do not apply to enter any competition outside the SPFL and Euro, neither competition has any reason to play at their dump. Their turnover would plummet within a couple of years, problem being we have too many glory hunters that are ok with being defiant victims.

  6. Celtic should not accept this meeting as a response to its request of the SFA. They should insist on another meeting with Celtic and SFA officials. This meeting should examine the Celtic complaints.

We should also point out that it appears that tonight’s meeting was a meeting to discuss complaints about Referees. These are different issues.

It would help if Brendan kept his mouth shut instead of calling for Full time referees. Our problems are not that the Refs are not paid enough but our problem is that too many are biased against our team as followers of Rangers. It’s who the refs are not that the issue not that they are not full time.

Can you picture the Monday Morning Refs meeting at Hampden with all the back slapping and discussions on how they sorted things out in the Huns favour. I can imagine the Trouser legs getting rolled up right now

  7. If the ref sees it and doesn’t deem it a foul, or a red or yellow, then if I witness a murder but say it was ok, then there’s nothin the polis can dae.

Seems fair to me. On another note,

If Stevie G was attending tonight, how come it wasn’t moved from Perth to Hampden? (or Ibrox even)

    Again, seems fair to me.

  8. Apparently at tonights summit it was agreed between clubs and SFA that VAR is a goer. As long as it isn’t the joke about Videos Assisting Rangers

  9. Scottish football is to pursue the introduction of video assistant referee technology following a summit between officials and top-flight managers.

At a meeting hosted by the Scottish FA in Perth, chief executive Ian Maxwell said there was now “a real appetite to investigate VAR”.

Hibernian head coach Neil Lennon, speaking on behalf of the Premiership managers, said: “I think the most unanimous decision was VAR, for the referees and the managers as well.”

  10. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

Its no up to the support to boycott, its up to the employers and executive to protect their employees and investment, if the SFA refuse to protect players health and well being then its up to the Plc to reduce the risk, easily achieved by reducing the influence of malign forces, the less SFA refs have influence the less risk to employees and investment the greater the return.

Seriously how much do the scottish cup and league cup competitions contribute to our turnover?

how many games that disable our players through assault and fatigue?

Bin every competition that has a final at hampden and make a difference to Scottish football.

  11. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

The reason we are looking at VAR is because of crooked refs, mistakes my shiney white well buffed arse. another squirrel for the hard of thinking to catch up in a few years that the authority/refs choose what qualifies for VAR and select which are admirable ffs.

VAR will never be as good as honest refs.

  13. Canalamar- as a man who has done great work on behalf of the Celtic support re Res 12,i have thought for years that the SMSM have blackmail material on Lawwell or someone else with clout at CP,i add these are my own thoughts, based on us taking shite from the press and the SFA,for many years, any opinions yourself?

My opinion is, when you conform to achieve the position of executive/upper management then you whole future is base on not destabilising the establishment rules, creating waves makes you less employable.

  17. Big Georges Fan Club - Hail, Hail, Wee Oscar on

VAR is pretty pointless unless there are independant (i.e., not Scottish SFA refereeing fratenirty – current or previous).

Much overlooked after the Shinnie summersault with pike a few weeks ago was the wee caption that popped up on BT a few minutes after the penalty was taken – at the same time as Big Bad John was ranting on about how ridiculous the decision was.

BT Video Ref confirmed that Penalty was the correct decision!!!

  18. Nothing says Scottish football like a casual get together to discuss refereeing on a Thursday evening. An abject failure by our Club to hold the SFA accountable. Where is the accountability and transparency here? The entire system is dysfunctional and biased. Embarrassing but not surprising in the slightest.

I;ve found through experience of middle management that conformity is the be all and end all to career progress, even if it expects fraud,t he higher up the ladder you go the greater the plausible deniability demanded by upper management. It is a capitalist culture thing.

okay bhoys, need to get this right for the old 65 year old bonce, if im mistaken forgive me, so in a nutshell if your of the muslim faith or the sikkh faith or the jewish faith, or any of the protestant faiths, you can become prime minister of the uk but if you were a member of the roman catholic church, no you cant how does that pan out.hh.

*The laws which may prohibit Catholics or Jews from becoming Prime Minister are religious and sectarian in nature, but arise out of the emancipation laws for both groups.

The relief acts allows Catholics (and later Jews) to run for parliament but prohibited certain offices, and most relevantly prohibited a Catholic from advising the reigning monarch on the choice of Anglican Bishops when the position needs filling.

Since the monarch no longer in reality chooses the Anglican Lords but does in Law still sign off on them, this seems to prohibit the advisor being the Prime Minister, and possibly excludes any member of a Cabinet led by a Catholic PM.

It could be argued that the PM could recues themselves from Cabinet meetings, or delegate someone else, but modern cabinets are chosen by the PM, not the monarch.

The extent to how collegian the cabinet is depends on the PM, but in reality the PM is the head of Government, not just first among equals. It’s not very equal. He/she can fire their sub-ordinates, and re-shuffle them at will.

Some reports on this suggest that in the event of a Catholic prime minister the cabinet office of Lord Chancellor (prohibited from being Catholic) could advise the monarch. That’s a possible solution, however he is still a cabinet member, and could of course be influenced by the PM, and there lies the complication.

Although the Relief Act didn’t say that how deep the influence of Catholicism could go, nevertheless special arrangements would have to be made to ensure that the PM did not advise the Crown directly or indirectly on Church of England appointments, doing so under the Roman Catholic Relief Act 1829 remains a “high misdemeanor”.

As for Tony Blair, he didn’t bother risking it, so he converted after he left the Office.

Oh and Disraeli, although born a Jew was an Anglican convert since the age of 12.

  21. Canalamar- i get your reply, but why do we say nothing, and leave the fans to front up every major issue…back of the bus? No we are outside washing the fkn thing…HH

  22. Bada, I think if the scum SMSM had anything on PL it would be out there, they would love that. Canamalar, you say it would make him less employable, I don’t think he’d struggle for employment, he’s been ‘headhunted’ a few times, though he certainly doesn’t need the money, that’s for sure.

  23. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

    Bada…,

conformity is the be all and end all to career progress, even if it expects fraud, the higher up the ladder you go the greater the plausible deniability demanded by upper management. It is a capitalist culture thing. The fans ?? Since when has capitalism refused to exploit a monopoly?

  24. Kenny Clark says there is no bias and referees declaring their team is irrelevant.

Ok Kenny, so shall we say to FIFA to let referees officiate matches involving their own Country during the qualifiers for 2022. Think of the money they could save on travel and accommodation.

Yeah, looks like Kenny’s entire argument has just fallen apart.

  25. Billy bear- thanks for reply, he is/has been on 600k to 1.2m a year for years, add his ego to that, why does he not speak for us? He doesn’t, he hides under his desk, meanwhile we are getting shafted at every opportunity, pick an issue from last 7 years? Guys like Canalamar, and back in the day P67,gave us a voice. 26. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

    Tontine..,

thanks for that, my understanding was that the first minister of the exchequer was not allowed to be an agent of Rome, the prime minister being the legal signatory of the UK treasury was not allowed to sign checks to the Vatican therefore RC’s were excluded since the pope was perceived to have too much control over their agenda

Look at the volume increase on their vomit on Scotland’s greatest football manager, all bluster cos david murray shat their club out for the world to see.david knee.

How would our club be portrayed if we slandered 66 people who went to a football game in 71,what would jock say (if he were alive )having carried many of their dead to the touchline to be laid out…….Not a word of dissent from a complicit media, tacit support in fact the more they ignore.

Och maybe bit of point but in this country the inculcated bias, bigotry and ignorance fed by a failing meeja bisniss, same road as mintys fraud
