Klimala and the Dembele-Edouard road

234

The January transfer window is set to burst into life today with the arrival of 21-year-old striker Patryk Klimala from Polish club Jagiellonia Bialystock.  Celtic met the €4m release clause.  The player has made 20 starts in top-flight football, among 51 starts in total.  Half of his appearances have been this season, as he made his breakthrough at Jagiellonia.

He is older and more experienced than Moussa Dembele and Odsonne Edouard were when they arrived in Glasgow, so his lack of match time will not be a worry for Celtic.  Both started promisingly and quickly improved.  The challenge now is to replicate the development work achieved with those two with Patryk.

Even fully fit, it is unreasonable to expect Odsonne to carry the load during what is likely to be a three-month spell where we play two games a week.  Patryk should get plenty game time during this period.  He also gives us the option of playing two strikers, a phenomenon we have seldom seen since the departure of Moussa.

  1. A lot of good posts to read today, enjoyed reading them, well done gents.

    Re TBB @ 10.17 – good post.

I see a few guys have mentioned 3) We don’t really know what to do with our stack of dough as the likely reason for our cash surplus. Have to disagree and say that’s the most unlikely reason imo.

The type of folk on our board and their likes are so focused on money/profit (their lives work for some). It’s inconceivable to me that our board could be so aimless with such a large sum. There’s not a chance in hell they’ve let that huge amount accumulate with no medium or long term plan for the money. It’s way too important to them and it would also be negligent on their part to let that situation occur with no benefit to our club. It makes zero sense to have it there doing nothing.

As for the reason it’s there…

A new emerging European league set up which would give us a much more level playing field than we’ll ever get in Scotland. Might be wishful thinking but a bhoy can dream.

  2. Sidney,

During Brendan’s time,he was given 30 million to spend.People have argued with me on this figure before, but when produced, the answer was,”But,but,but”..That is no smal amount. Not penny pinching. In the Summer Lenny got,15 million, with loan wages, would have been 18 million, withe Motherwell boy.If Soro comes in,,that will be 21 million,up until now since Summer. The general consensus on here, and most places was ,at the start of the season we had a much better squad than the Huns,so I cannot for the life of me go with your argument to put all the blame on PL.
