Look under the bonnet at Killie

647

There is no outrage louder than moral outrage, so I ignored this week’s stupidity by Kilmarnock chairman Michael Johnston, adding volume seemed moot, but if you look below the bonnet of this decision you’re likely to find the real story.  Kilmarnock FC is in a critical condition.

They need your money this week, probably even more than they need the goodwill of their own fans.  Mr Johnston’s most damaging folly has not been to offer Celtic fans a better deal than his own club’s supporters, it has been the failure to address the club’s financial imperative over a long number of years.  Like another club I can think of, getting cash in the door is the only game in town, as a failure to do so would bring enormous consequences.

It is the Killie fans who suffer as “Speaking as a solicitor” Johnston clings to what passes for power at a busted flush.  Don’t apologise for this week’s self-harming insult, instead be contrite about the actions which brought about the problem.

  3. the celtic fc’ in euro league/ English league’ etc… has been talked about for years.

with no end in sight what could Scottish football do to make the game thrive again?

how can we make the league more competitive?

    larger league

    more playoffs

    better distribution of money

% of gate share (maybe away fans in crowns exceeding 25k)

    2 points for score draw

% share of euro pot for all euro competitors

cheaper season tickets/ and pay at gates

    getting sponsor (even performance related)

improve t.v. income/ own Scottish football t.v, one source better for fans)

summer football or earlier start to season

I think the league structure could be much stronger than it is at present, but it must learn to serve supporters and competition. every leagues in Scotland is competition dead by Christmas then we all sit about talking about how we can improve it. there is no pleasure in watching another club struggle

You posted previously that it was John Keane , who put up the £1m without any security to save Celtic.

David Low say’s it was Wee Fergus and nobody else.

He also states Mr Keane was very deserving of the opportunity to raise the championship flag.

His role was more in buying up shares.

  5. David Low also day’s that Peter Lawell never answered him , when he suggested that Wee Fergus should also be asked to raise a championship flag.

The reason we have so few quality footballers today is that live births in Scotland are almost half of what they were in 1946 to 1990.

Football is a numbers churn in reality.

We stopped having kids and what kids we do have dont play football in the street morning noon and night.

I read a statistics a while back that said 50% of all Scots born woman over the age of 40 have no children

Its not just a football problem…its societal…….and if PL isnt looking closely at season book demographics then he needs to start very soon.

This kind of topic can grow arms and legs and wander all over the political spectrum but the numbers are concrete and fact.

  8. Zombies FC has tonight released the following statement:

Zombie fans are now aware of a Court of Session action brought by the Club’s former Commercial Director Imran Ahmad and in response has released the following:

“Mr Ahmad’s lawyers have lodged his summons at the Court of Session. This is simply a procedural step which the Club anticipated. The Club’s lawyers are of the view that his claim is unfounded in fact and in law and is likely to fail.

“They have advised the court that the claim will be defended robustly. Mr Ahmad’s claim is for £500,000 in alleged unpaid bonuses and not the sum previously claimed in his pre action correspondence which was in excess of £3 million.”

  9. greendreamz @ 18:53,

Don’t think it’s all to do with numbers, I remember one particularly fractious lamposts for goal posts match where we decided to get on our Football Strips and boots and meet in the Park for a proper game, albeit 4-a-side.

    My team mates…

A lad that went to Liverpool and Rangers

A lad that went on to play for and Manage St Mirren

A lad who was the nephew of a Scottish International and won the double in England.

It could be a coincidence but to me Central Scotland was a hotbed of Football.

Sorry not replied to you, but out all day on grand kid duties.

I totally agree about the quality of the coaching couyrses at Largs over the last 40 years or so and Andy Roxburgh and Craig Brown were, as you say, fully involved in the development and delivery of those courses. Craig Brown was actually my coach when I did my badges down there and he was an excellent ‘teacher’ as well as being a really nice guy (then) – in fact the only teaching coach who was looked upon as a fud was Willie McLean (yes THAT brother) who made it crystal clear that he only had time for the professionals on the course.

There was a fairly successful manager of a Scottish team around at that time and he thought enough of the Largs courses to send a few of his younger players down there each summer. Wullie Young, Aberdeen captain and future Spurs and Arsenal player was actually in my group the year I was there and told me that Fergie would go ballistic if any of his players failed to take full advantage of the work done on the course. Good enough for Fergie says it all.

  11. Regarding the sevco story in the Bisiness Insider,it seems sevco 5088 has been airbrushed out of the equation.Green publicly said he shafted Craigyboy over the switch to sevco SCOTLAND.Is there any news of any court case over said shafting

  12. another club in problems – anybody think we gotta look at how we run clubs in Scotland or shall we just go back to the wrecking ball governance and run it for one club

  13. Why are Celtic selling those barca tickets on another website?

Or has the statement ‘Celtic touting’ been used quite incorrectly?

  14. Got a call from Sky tonight enquiring as to why I cancelled my contract a while back.

Gave the guy who had a Yorkshire accent ( nah it weren’t Chuckles) chapter and verse on their coverage of Sevco and the Zombies.

Expected some kind of retort but no.

All he said was he completely understood and thanked me for my time.

Maybe our actions are being noticed or he was simply a Tim.

  15. Another 2 goals from Finnbogason tonight making it 11 for the season….and he’s missed a couple of games due to injury!
