McGregor, no better finisher in Scottish football

327

Very grateful to whoever at the BBC researched that Celtic are the third team in European football history to achieve the Double Treble, after The New Saints (TNS) and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).  This level of brilliance it exceptional by any standards.

Despite the levels of dominance TNS and PSG enjoy in their domestic leagues, neither were able to complete a Treble Treble; only Celtic can do that now.

The Scottish Cup Final was an exercise in game management by Brendan Rodgers.  His team took a two goal lead and set about making sure Motherwell would be unable to lay a glove on them.

The strongest weaker foot in the game

Among the remarkable performances on the day, special mention has to go to Callum McGregor.  Yet again he scored on the big stage, yet again with his supposed weaker foot, yet again the crucial first goal.  His game intelligence bought him the space to attack when the ball was headed out of the Motherwell penalty area.  The shot, hit on the drop-volley, was controlled and crisp.

I doubt there is a better finisher in Scottish football.

    Fondly.

Maybe you haven’t read back, but I was posting about the hypocrisy of those who never criticise the board jumping on Martin’s failure to call out the historic, and indeed, present cheating.

It’s old news, he’d made similar comments a while back.

He left 7 years before Rangers (1872-2012) died.

The board have been there throughout, and have done nothing about either issue.

If they had, MO’N wouldn’t be making these comments, as there’d be no point in mentioning a ‘strong Rangers’.

BSR and I were just kidding around, if that’s what made you think I was back on the best since Jock stuff.

Thanks for your replies ghuys and especially your link Terje. It sounded to me as if he swore. He looked distracted throughout, looking out of the window while the discussion was going on and he sounded a wee bit muddled in his thoughts. Maybe the effects of drink. JohnJames said that he is ill but I don’t always believe what he says. I wonder if they’ll have Eck back on again.

  6. Bobby, so good to see you back on. Given the weekend we have had thought you would have been on proud as punch. Anyways how did the Swindon CSC work out? I have been out far too much. Normally work to a strict budget. But I have blown it in a week. Going to be a hermit for the next two weeks. But I’ve got CQN. DEO Gratis.

First time on cqn Really surprised at Martin O Neills Comments at Celtic needing a strong rangers team

Martin how can you of all people forget what a strong rangers team means to to Celtic fc it means without any

Shadow of a doubt Total Unequivocal DECEPTION to put it mildly , my Grandfather knew it ,My Father Knew it, I know it and my young grandson will find the same as we all know it, nothing bigoted about it, rangers are the people which has been their downfall for years well done Brendan Rodgers the team and our world wide support on a fantastic achievement of the double treble

First of all, welcome to the blog. Nuthouse,it is. You’ll find that in time.

Second, and I wouldn’t lie,one of my mates asked us today-Have you ever met anyone famous?

There were six of us,all Celtic supporters in roughly our 50s.

I’ve got a photo of me holding George Best up,1979 in Detroit, after my Dad had drunk him and his pals under the table.

One of the lads met James Callaghan when he was PM

Another,Rod Stewart, another still John Lennon in Virginia Water,I think.

Trumped them all. I met Jimmy McGrory,1971 I think. A Philvis-style Thumbs-up for meeting him too.

One of the greats, and so so modest,he was literally just happy to be Jimmy McGrory of Celtic, and remembered as such.

  8. Maybe what MO’N meant was, how would Brendan have measured up vs a, £100 million Rangers team, who were backed to the hilt by ebt’s and mibbery?

MO’N is probably also of the mind that, despite all the evidence of hun/SFA corruption, the Celtic supporter’s are still buying a corrupt product, and, the supporter’s are now also doing what the PLC are doing, and are turning the other cheek, so, why should MO’N care about Celtic supporter’s being cheated when, the supporter’s themselves don’t care?

  10. BEATBHOY I had read back and did realise you were at the kidding which is why I asked the question – a wee bit of mischief on my part.

I don’t agree with MON but the bottom line is that that these guys are asked question at a press conference and give a reply without thinking about it too much. It creates more of a furore if they refuse to answer a question or obfuscate.

  12. KEVJUNGLE on 21ST MAY 2018 8:20 PM

What you also need to consider here is that MON was given ver £20M for Lennon, Hartson, Sutton and Thompson so he had a bit of money to spend which (in relative terms) dwarfs what Brendan Rodgers has had to spend so far.

To dismiss Rodgers as a pub team skelper is to belittle what the Club have done over the past 2 seasons; is that what you are really trying to do? That’s a genuine question so will you respond?

“Lionel Messi picked up a record fifth European Golden Shoe after finishing the domestic league campaign with 34 goals.

The Barcelona forward was trailing Mohamed Salah in April, but eight goals in the Argentine’s last six La Liga games – including hat-tricks against Leganes and Deportivo – saw Messi finish two clear of the Liverpool winger.

It is the fifth time Messi has claimed the award (2009-10, 2010-11, 2012-13, 2016-17), moving the 30-year-old one clear of Cristiano Ronaldo.”

Dick Emery the new Gunners manager?Good for him

M’on is entitled to his opinion on sevco, doesn’t mean it’s not cobblers

  18. As others have said MON has earned the right to comment. We don’t agree with him and I am not sure he even agree’s with himself. MON knows only too well what they are and their poison. What he says to the press is not always what he believes. He plays them.

If what he meant was that Celtic need a challenge to stretch them then I don’t see whats wrong with that. A cheating entity is not what we need to be stronger. We need them broken and never back challenging. as time goes on they will be like Leeds United, who never will get to the levels they were at.

I reckon what will happen is that they will die back as less young people will be attracted, we will dominate and collect all the best players and boys with aspiration will become Bhoys. Our ethos is all about Joy celebration and helping others. Their superiority ethos will be shown up as hollow and will be patently exposed.

They reckon they need a sugar Daddy but what person of wealth would want to drain his money on the Orcs. They have been looking at Investors for 10 years without success.

They are doomed. A strong Rangers is a figment of their imagination. There is more of a chance we will be invited to a European League and leave them behind than they have of catching up to our Turnover and Financial muscle

You also need to consider that Rangers had spent tens of millions building a team over the years, and in response to Martin’s spend, minus the £6 million for Viduka, of course, they spent £12 million on one player.

Also, Brendan took over a team which had finished the previous season as Champions by 15 points, Martin a team second by 21 points.

We now know that Barnes/Dalglish team was cheated, of course.

As was Martin, but, in defiance, he won his by 15 points at the first attempt.

I met Jimmy Mc.Grory in the Celtic Park car park.

I was there, when no game was on, to buy a copy of his newly released autobiography.

It was a gift for my father in law, who had watched Jimmy when he worked in Scotland.

As I was making my way back to my car, Mr. McGrory came out of the main door.

I plucked up the courage to approach him and ask him to sign a dedication in the book.

Not only did he sign a wee personal message, but the grace with which he did it was special.

He acted as if I was doing him the favour!

Bertie Auld also has that gift whenever he interacts with a supporter.
