Not the end of the world if Rangers don’t survive! Too true

1216

I caught an online synopsis of Rangers’ owner Craig Whyte’s recent meeting with a group of the club’s fans last night.  The group report that Whyte hopes, “’Rangers Football Club Plc’ could survive any administration event but feels it would not be the end of the world if it didn’t.”

We can all agree, it sure wouldn’t be the end of the world if that particular entity didn’t survive, although I suspect Mr Whyte is alluding to the possibility of a new club emerging.  Celtic Quick News first raised the liquidation scenario back in October and explained a prepack route for Rangers Newco FC.  If a football company goes into liquidation a secured creditor, in Rangers case this would be Craig Whyte, can retain control of key assets, such as the stadium, but would not own a football club which was part of any league structure.

In Scotland any Newco FC would have to apply for membership of the Scottish Premier League or Scottish Football League.  A simple majority of the SPL board (three votes required) would be enough to vote a club into the SPL.  The board currently has representatives from Celtic, Dundee United, Motherwell and St Johnstone, as well as SPL chief exec, Neil Doncaster.  It is chaired by Ralph Topping, who only votes in the event of a stalemate.

If Rangers lose their tribunal against Her Majesty’s tax authorities (think of her underequipped soldiers), Celtic will not be the only club who will consider the commercial and competitive disadvantage they suffered while paying their taxes for the last 12 years, but they may be one of the few clubs that would survive without the sponsorship and TV income dependent on a club with the Rangers brand participating in the league.  Celtic would vote against allowing Rangers into the league but I can see zero chance of Dundee United, St Johnstone, Motherwell or Neil Doncaster doing the same.  If the board voted Newco FC into the league, the liquidation of Rangers would not be the end of the world; a football club would die but another could quickly emerge at the same location, selling tickets to the same people.

Opening positions on what sporting cost Newco FC should face for league entry were taken months ago when it was reported that Rangers would fight “tooth and nail” against a 25 point penalty on a Newco.  A 25 point penalty on the phoenix of a failed club after 12 seasons of financial benefit would be an insufferable insult.  This amounts to little more than a the loss of a single league title.  12 seasons of benefit should result in a 12 seasons of penury at the insolvency-event rate of 10 points per season.  Small cost for the enormous gift of a league place and a huge football franchise.  The SPL must also strike from the record any financially doped titles won by clubs still in existence or not.

Can you imagine if Peter Lawwell said, “It wouldn’t be the end of the world if Celtic PLC didn’t survive”!  There would be an impromptu media village outside Celtic Park that would rival the Obama inauguration in size.  Huge story sitting on a plate just waiting to be written up.  Or not.

It’s a sad state of affairs.

I made a comment a month or two back about Celtic being like a Jewish team playing in Nazi Germany, a bit strong on the surface, but the undercurrent stacks up imo.

They want us gone, and the establishment are doing their utmost to undermine us in any way they can.

It’s not about football any more, it’s race and sectarian hate dressed up as being for the good of football, it’s a total sham, and more and more right minded people are seeing what is in front of their eyes.

There will be carnage soon enough, and it will all be the fault of Timmy.

    Hat trick for Rhodes.

I was listening to snyde tonight and Jim Duffy was on the panel

Now Jim took the same view as Hugh that it was two committed players going in for a 50-50

Then old Jim boy added this little snippet

I am glad that these tackles (50-50s)are still allowed here as they seem not to be elsewhere

Kayal went in fully committed but just got to the ball a split second before MCulloch in fact if it was me and I intended to be malicious I would have made sure I got there slightly later .He then had a wee pause as IMO he realised what he had inadvertently said and then moved on .

I may not have got the exact words but If someone could post a link ,this may explain the event you describe .

How long did Jim play in Scottish football ,how long has elbows .

  5. I can’t believe some of you on this site still see McCullough tackle 50/50. Really?

I see one player Kayal comes to get the ball, and the other McCullough comes maybe to get the ball but puts enough force to break elephant’s leg.

I also see the player who due to the stupidity of the SPL and the referee is again out of the play another few months.

I see the player who might be doubting that that game is worth his health and life. See the player who probably hears :get rid of those butchers (with my all respect to the butchers). I also see the player who probably won’t cost much money because many will see him injured prone. I also see the player who will

    Think about it.

  7. A brief summary of my thoughts –

McCulloch is the archetypal rangers player. A thug sponsored by their management to exact pain on Celtic players and fans to the detrement of Celtic FC.

Hugh Keevins is just an old man at the end of his career. Let him be rather than name calling. We are better than that. The Journalist issue is over.

As for the tax case. If we get 6 titles, 2 league cups, and 1 scottish cup back I will be happy. That is our first negotiating start point.

Secondly these cups and league titles should be awarded in front of a live audience at Celtic Park and presented by the SFA and SPL delegates. If needs be bring along the dignatories that would normally present this sort of stuff. erect all 6 league title flags at the phoenix club end and keep them there for the duration of next season.

Deduct new rangers the equivalent of the league titles that allow Celtic to gain the monies that should have been due to them during a decade of blatant cheating. Only then will I consider payi9ng any sort of money into the coffers of Celtic and or the coterie of the SPL.

  9. Last phrase should read: I also see the player who will have to work very hard to be back again.

We play many tough games in Poland but I can’t remember when was the last time when the player was out of the game few months after tackle. Somebody in Scotland has to say :enough.

Those tackle usualy happen far from the goals and give nothing to the game. They are to scare the players and to cause injuries to the oponents.

Sometimes looking from the outside you can see things a little differently, not saying I am right, but quite a few of the bhoys from the North agree with me on this, a bit like the early 70’s was there.

I hope it’s just my paranoia.

  11. Shieldmuir Celtic on

As someone who lived in the North-East for a few years, I found that there was a lot of positive feeling towards Celtic. This was largely due to the fact that Jock Stein brought the full ‘Lisbon Lions’ team north to play in a charity match for the Fraserburgh Lifeboat Disaster Fund.

    ‘Paul67

I am not convinced the SPL board can make a decision. The rules indicate that league expansion or any club joining other than by promotion is a reserved matter.

Reserved matters have to be voted on by all members. Given that Rangers would no longer be a member then , depending on the timing of the insolvency event, there may only be 11 members.’

I think the relevant provision is Article 14 (ii) which deals with the sale/transfer of league membership by the liquidator of the outgoing club.

That requires a Qualified Resolution passed at a General Meeting of the members to allow the Board to deal with a sale/transfer of membership.

    A Qualified Resolution requires 90%, not 83%.

The liquidator has to apply to apply to the SPL for permission to effect the sale/transfer.

    http://www.scotprem.com/content/mediaassets/doc/SPL%20Articles%20as%20at%2015-Apr-10%20(CURRENT).pdf

This is the point I was trying to make to Paul67 at the start of the article, but I did not have the rules in front of me, this would be un-chartered waters for the SPl and a special meeting with an unique solution would be required at which we could demand cruel and unusual punishment for Newco, or just veto them if you are correct about the rules.

I also think a criminal investigation is looming after the tax case is decided as potentially RFC and SPL/SFA may have conspired to deprive Celtic of league championships and consequential CL income of many millions, this also may be a matter for the Financial Services Authority or whatever they are now. The current Board at RFC may have similar problems as they are allegedly withholding PAYE and NI payments to assist the current team to compete in the league. I can imagine if this was asked to be investigated by an independent organisation the uncertainty may cause difficulties for any Newco to attempt entry into the SPL.

James Forrest are beating up some poor politicians again, hope you don’t mean me your old Labour Left comrade.

How ironic when Boris Johnson is attacking the abolition of DLA some of the remnants of the right in my Party are suggesting going along with the cuts.

We need to get some radical progressive left policies that our people identify with and show that their can be a better alternative.

  17. Celtic FC have no other option than to oppose any and every move or vote to allow any new Cheating Rangers FC back into the SPL.

If we cannot achieve this through the SPL rules, we should consider or position and ask for an independent inquiry into the SFA and SPL by Uefa. I think the threat of us resigning from the SPL and SFA would reverberate throughout the world of football and shine.an independent light on the corrupt practices of Scottish football.

As a Celtic fan I will always support my club.

Football is a physical game, albeit a lot less physical than it used to be.

Sadly, players get injured. There is not always malice involved when that happens – in fact it is extremely rare in the modern game that a player sets out to deliberately inflict serious injury on an opponent.

The idea that Elbows is some sort of physics expert who weighs up the pros and cons of how to maximise an injury and get away with it – all in the white heat of a Glasgow Derby (as has been suggested more than once on here) is frankly laughable.

Neil Lennon has twice gone on record as saying it was a 50/50 – and while his opinion is as valid as yours or mine – he played the game at that level and I think that counts for something.
