Oscar Knox Paving Stone

1523

Last year at BMCUWP’s hootenanny in McChuills, many CQNers clubbed together and raised funds to buy something appropriate in memory of Wee Oscar. A fantastic amount was raised and we are delighted to announce a paving stone was purchased at very, very, favourable rates from Celtic, and now has its pride and place very close to the statue of Big Jock.

The tribute reads, Wee Oscar Knox, Heart of a lion, Courage of a champion.

Make sure you look out for it next time you are at Celtic Park.

  1. Oooops just in …..

Phill more or less just backing up what I said.

The reporting restrictions on criminal cases in Scots Law are very precise and very strict.

From the moment a warrant issued or an arrest is made then ‘Live Proceedings’ are in place until the matter is disposed of.

A disposal can be that the Procurator Fiscal decides that there will no further action or there is an eventual verdict in court.

Essentially there has to be an outcome to the proceedings and until that happens then the proceedings are live and the Contempt Court Act 1981 is in force.

This law applies to all members of the public.

However, the penalties for journalists breaching this act are particularly clear because we are expected to know better.

This is especially true when the proceedings are Solemn rather than Summary.

The former involves a jury and it is important that the people selected to judge on the facts are not swayed by anything out with the courtroom.

The latter only involves a Sheriff and it is assumed that a member of the judiciary is less likely to be distracted or influenced by media coverage.

Subsequently, I will not be writing about these recent events involving the police investigation into acquisition of Rangers Football Club by Mr Craig Whyte in 2011 or moderating any comments regarding these proceedings.

Totally pissed off with some of the comments today.

Who voted what, who booed what, who cares?

Today’s blog should have been about remembering a real hero in our lifetime and his family.

    Instead,point-scoring about utter nonsense.

Who cares if Aiden was booed last night? He was booed all his career in Scotland. It won’t bother him. And the fact that it was encouraged won’t bother him either.

    Give it a rest,fellas. Seriously.

I think we’ve done the referendum who done that to death. I think we’ve done the huns I hate them more than you similar.

I think we’re all pissed off wi point-scoring. Give it a rest.

    (Please)

Actually mate it did affect him – he was rubbish last night

  4. TD67,

Well said and no truer words spoken.

Noticed your other port of call has reopened, I met Dessie last week and he said you have been missing it, so all good for your goodself.

Btw, that’s some wee dug he has, best he keeps it away from Caesar or he will eat it :)

  5. BMCUW

Listen to what you posted for me in the early hours. Almost Pink Floyd relaxes the mind. Wonderful music. Thanks.

  6. Bobby Murdoch………..agreed, Maiden was looking forward to the game he was well used to the reception and he just got on with it.

  7. Ernie Lynch

In Malaysia – his mother was Scottish. If my son is born here in Slovakia he will be half Scottish and half Slovak. He can play for both.

    End of story.

If you are seriously suggesting someone whose parents come from a different country from the one their kid is born in cannot call their child their own nationality and that he should not be allowed to play for one of those countries you’d better tell Ryan Giggs his England career was stolen away by his mother.

Wayne Rooney could have played for Ireland – why didn’t he?

Could it be that he thought playing for England and the country he grew up in was his actual identity and that he’d play in more tournaments?

  8. Hankray

Have to admit that I would have preferred Podolski & Klose to have played for Poland. Not so sure about Angela Merkel. :)

A nice wee interlude of pyooor magic, innit?

The sort of music which can calm the savage breast.

And no need whatsoever for anything else. Just the music.

Alright,a wee bevvy and a spliff anaw. Glad you enjoyed it.

    See ya 14/2!

  11. This gem from Mark Dingwall today.

“Whether it’s the tax case the bank administration liquidation all of these things. If we had waited till there had been a proper conclusion to the investigation then the club need not have undergone administration and the liquidation process and need not have gone to the third division.

He got this from the fact four guys are now arrested.

Other than time travel. How on earth could a company in liquidation operate the core operation of the business.

They do or seriously believe the club operates on fresh air.

    Beyond stupid these guys.

    SAINT STIVS

The guy’s a knob. That he feels he speaks for his fellow fans shows how little intelligence those fellow fans have.

That the MSM give credence to him shows similar.

  14. Captain Beefheart on

Last night was another nail in the coffin for Scottish/Irish sectarianism. A few dinosaurs will continue with their primitive, gutter politics though. Others will continue to be offended for little reason in order to maintain victim hood.

  15. The Red Telephone on

Hypothetical question, if Scotland play Northern Ireland, will Paul Paton ( born in Paisley ) get the Gordon McQueen treatment? Will the Tartan Army give him stick like McGeady received last night? A’bit of friendly fun’ according to The Herald.

From where I sat, I would hate to see a bit of unfriendly fun.

  16. Captain Beefheart on

    Paul Paton is crap Red.

    Aiden isn’t. Hence the boos.

Justafan, it is about time that our countries said adios to the primitive sectarian agendas.

  17. No matter what is going on in my life I just have to think of Wee Oscar and the Knox family and it does not seem nearly as bad, A life changing bhoy who we were gifted with no matter how briefly.

Thoughts with the family of the young boy who never went home from the game last night.

    Till later all

Presumably they should also be booing Shaun Maloney for not playing for the country of his birth.

So good you quoted me twice. And in neither case did I mention country of birth.

Your point is therefore non sequitur…

I’m seriously suggesting that if those great Scottish patriots in the tartan army feel it’s appropriate to boo McGeady they should also boo Maloney.

Absolutely brilliant tribute to an inspirational wee boy!

Anyone else read the following nonsense from Ewan Murray in The Gruniad?

Those who point to sinister reasoning behind booing of McGeady might want to consider his treatment had he instead chosen to play for England”

*don’t recall Joe Baker being booed when he played for England against Scotland at Wembley…….I know I know that Joe was born in Liverpool but was brought up in Motherwell.

  21. from the tartan army website

“Like most, I booed McGeady but I also had an exchange with a bunch of yobs in front of us who were screaming sectarian abuse. They got upset but were put in their place by true Tartan Army foot soldiers.”

Bobby Murdoch, a big congratulations to all involved the paving stone tribute to Oscar.

You mentioned at 15 29 about the charming and lovely Dingwall. I had the misfortune to be in his company on a number of times in the early eighties.

A pal of a pal was at school with Dingy, sorry , Dhingy, and we are at a few nights out he was in attendance. When I was introduced to him the first thing he said me was ‘you’re a catholic’.

Thirty odd years later, I can still remember his opening remark to me.

He worked in the big John Menzies that was in Buchanan Street at the time. He used to say, and not jokingly, he loved the colours in the John Mezies poly bags, blue white and orange.

Dingwall was n’t the nicest person I have ever met.
